Looking back, was this a good roster?
Looking back, was this a good roster?
Sure why not. Wish Wolf made it in but oh well
Acceptable. It definitely could've been better.
it was the only saving grace sm4sh had.
Remember when people thought this was a lot of characters?
now that ultimate exists any roster that cut characters can never be considered good
Smash 4 didn't have shit like Incineroar, loss of solo Zard, K. Rool, or Banjo, so it's better by default.

That's some hard COPE you got there.
It was a game without Snake.
the new characters in the base roster were fantastic and the best set of new characters in the series history. villager, mega man, and wii fit trainer were a a fantastic foot to start on for that first e3, and the hype just kept going with each announcement
the clones were lame and extremely disappointing. all of them could have easily had unique movesets (especially dark pit who even has his staff in his portrait. fuck you sakurai! you fucking made him. put some effort into him)
the cuts were pretty dumb. no lucas or wolf but lucario and r.o.b. stay? hardware causing the loss of transformations was a gift (sheik/zelda) and a curse (loss of squirtle and ivysaur), ice climbers being cut wasnt a big deal tho
the dlc was pretty bad. only cloud and ryu were good additions. bayonetta was a mediocre pick and broke the game, lucas and mewtwo shouldve been in the game already, roy was kinda unnecessary (though he became my sm4sh main so i cant complain too much) and corrin is the worst roster addition in smash history.
the goat
smash 4 on 3ds is still my fav in the series

The only good new newcomers in this roster are the 3rd parties, Villager, and Megaman. Everything else is retarded zoomer trash that LITERALLY NO ONE asked for. I'm glad Sakurai redeemed himself with Ultimate's roster.
>Duck Hunt
>retarded zoomer trash
>haha look at my classic video game duck hunt xd look at how quirky i am when i hold this gun ;)
The only new characters I actually gave a crap about were Pac-Man and Mega Man, and the bizarre return of Dr. Mario pleased me a lot just because.
The biggest thing to me is that Smash for 3DS/Wii U is a game rendered obsolete by its direct predecessor, which has all its characters and all but a few of its best stages. Custom moves were a half-baked concept, stat-affecting items were neat in theory but without a dedicated singleplayer they were basically pointless outside of annoying your friends with them.
That and it sold you characters from previous games for six bucks a pop, and those didn't even come with stages or music like the new ones.
>thinking anyone who mentions cereal bear is a Stevefag
Yes. Rent free indeed.
I'm not impressed by it. I think at the time I was stoked for it because it was a new Smash game, but looking back I think it's my least favorite game in the series. That roster also looks downright puny thanks to Ultimate.
Of course not. I mean, it's a big roster so it's good enough, but as a tableau of characters, particularly the new additions, it's just not as impressive as it should have been. Too many of the new fighters were in some way generic, either. Rosalina and Koopa Kids are disappointing Mario picks to me, sorry. No new Zelda character, again.
I think the desire to release two Smash games at once held the Wii U back. There should've been more to that game. The connectivity between the two versions was so worthless they may as well have made entirely separate games.
Any roster's great when he's in it.
Focused way too much on "surprise" characters rather than ones that fans actually wanted. Wii Fit Trainer and Duck Hunt were great surprises, but Rosalina and Palutena really didn't seem all that necessary. I think it's pretty telling that K. Rool, Ridley, and Banjo were some of Ultimate's most hyped newcomers when all three of them had been requested since prior to Smash 4's planning period.
you know, that's a good point
Pac-Man is my main thanks to Sm4sh, but other than that and the fact that it was portable it can fuck off desu
>Online multiplayer is gimped as fuck, have to go into competitive just to 1V1 and pretty much no custom matches online
>No Subspace Embassy-type thing (Ultimate's story mode is inferior too, but at least it has one)
>No Snake
Nah, I don't give a shit. Cut a bunch of em, and give me more new fighters and stages and an adventure mode. Smash shouldn't just be an app that gets updated with more shit every few years, it should be a full cohesive GAEM.
On the topic of Sm4sh, I think the only fighter it added that really must be in the next game is Duck Hunt, and maybe Pacman. There can be other Mario, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Kid Icarus, Xeno and Capcom reps instead, and Villager would be better as an animal. Little Mac needs to take a season off to work on his jump. However, from Ultimate, it would feel wrong to cut Inkling, Ridley and K. Rool. Simon and Richter got so much love put into them, they should stay too. Isabelle is unfortunately the series mascot now so we're stuck with that one. My own preferences aside, I wonder which 3rd-parties will realistically return for the next game, since there are so many now.
Robin was one of my most wanted newcomers and I main him to this day. And in what fucking world is Little Mac either zoomer trash or a character no one asked for?
>Kick villager
>Keep Isabelle
I don't like this one bit. Besides, Sakurai prefers playable characters, so it's much more likely that Villager will be in. I guess it depends on weather Sakurai is even on board with the next game. I think Ultimate is likely his magnum opus and he'll take a backseat for the next one. I've been speculating that the next game will dramatically cut the roster and have a full fledged adventure mode to bring players back in. That may also be why we didn't get many new stages in this game. The next smash needs to stand out as much as possible.
>Pac-man
cool, good all around
>Little mac
cool idea, shit execution
>Wii fit trainer
strange mom character choice, shit character with weird hitboxes that camps ledge all game
>villager
necessary addition, kinda weird as a character but not bad
>duck hunt
funny addition, decent character
>charizard
dunno why they kept the most boring pokemon trainer character
>rosalina
semi-obvious addition, interesting idea, decent character but kind of annoying
>bowser jr.
just kinda shit all around
>robin
a lot of people like robin but for me it's just another literal who fire emblem, magic is kinda cool I guess though
>palutena
was not very interesting or good in this game
>greninja
shillmon but a cool character
>dark pit
lol
>shulk
not too familiar with xenoblade but shulk is fun once you git gud
overall meh
I forgot megaman, megaman is a great character and pretty fun in game if you get used to not having an f-tilt or neutral air
