fe:a - absolute garbage in every way
fates:b - absolute garbage in most regards
fates:c - some good parts, some really REALLY bad parts
fates:r - absolute garbage in most regards
haven't played the gaiden remake because the original was trash
awakening is unironically the best overall package
conquest has better gameplay but the story and cast are dogshit, echoes has a better story and cast but the gameplay is dogshit
awakening and fates - gameplay
echoes - music
I'm about to play birthright. What exactly is the very bad part about it?
I mean conquest, not birthright.
very basic and easy. poor enemy unit AI, skills and equipment, little map diversity or win conditions
the story/character interactions are the worst its ever been. if you skip the story bits, it's the best FE game in terms of difficulty, customization and gimmicks and map diversity
I've just finished my first two fire emblem games - Sacred Stones and Three Houses. I own a copy of Awakening but haven't played it yet. What are the other best mainline entries? I like the traditional jap aesthetic of Birthright so I'm kinda interested in that one but it seems like everyone thinks its shit.
She needs to shave
Awakening was easily my favorite, but Echos had hands down the best 2D art.
Fates isn't even worth picking up.
Fuck you!
I dumped 1000 hours into Fates cause it's so damn replayable. Echoes was great with how different it is to the other two. Awakening didn't hook me much.
I pick Fates for it's replay value and Echoes for the first time experience.
FE6 is really good but it's a bit harder than Sacred Stones and Three Houses.
None of them, they're all shit. Awakening is unironically the best overall package, which says a lot about how bad the others can be.
Fates is 2/3rds of a pretty fucking bad game while Conquest is that other 1/3rd that has a core group of autists that home in on muh maps when in reality only a few of them are actually really stellar like C10 while ignoring the other failings the game has.
Echoes is an 8/10 game or better in every regard except gameplay, which renders it mostly unplayable because they fucking thought it would be a good idea to not update the FUCKING MAPS AAAAAAAAHHHHHH. Wouldn't mind seeing other old FE games get that same level of TLC and attention to detail that Echoes did, but the sales and overall reception of Echoes means that's probably not ever going to happen.
Another fire emblem game with the same art style as Echoes would be an instant buy for me.
>FE6
>a bit harder than Sacred Stones and Three Houses
I want to mating press Celica.
I found it to be harder at least if we're talking highest difficulties, Sacred Stones was pretty easy actually in my opinion. Though I haven't played the new difficulty for Three Houses yet so that might have changed things.
Fuck Robin, Marry Celica, kill Corrin
Three Houses was a bit too easy anyway (even on Hard). I found Sacred Stones decently challenging as my first ever FE game.
he was probably referring to the "a bit" part, SS and 3H are kirby epic yarn tier easy compared to BB
>Robin over Corrin
Haha good one user
Oh that makes more sense yeah.
>I found it to be harder at least if we're talking highest difficulties
It is harder, by quite a large margin, especially when compared to Sacred Seth.
>I found Sacred Stones decently challenging as my first ever FE game.
SS has good enough maps, it's just that the enemies are complete shit. If you don't know that Seth is a walking god amongst mortals and thus never use him, or tower grind anyone up it can hit you with some decent shit, especially on Ephraim's route.
The correct answer is all 3 are shit
I didn't play Echoes but I know it's the best because (you) aren't the main character.
But Conquest was some serious kino. Thinking about it makes me wanna go play Xcom
I liked playing eugenics with fates and awakening
>But Conquest was some serious kino
You enjoyed watching a magical stripper cause continent-wide bloodshed?
I like pigtails more than feet
Echoes >>> Awakening > Didn't bother with Fates
Eugenics in Fates was the fucking shit. There's a reason why I dumped so much time in the game.
We live in a world where some idiot decided that Xander shouldn't be the protagonist of Conquest.
I used Seth but not that often because I was trying to train my other party members. Sorta assumed Seth would become shit late game (as usually happens with powerful early-game characters in RPGs) so I didn't want to waste EXP on him. Didn't bother grinding because it seemed boring and I did go Ephraim's route. I thought the challenge of the game was pretty perfect, at least as my first ever FE.
Nah, I liked that one chapter tho. One of my favorites from the whole series no doubt
How come theres so much disparity between the FE fanbase and reviewers on the Fates games? Reviews all complemented the "engrossing story" of Fates, but every FE fan I've ever seen seems to fucking hate it. Did they butcher the FE lore or something? Were reviewers too dumb to pick up on plot holes?
The name Echoes implies that at one point they were thinking about remaking other FEs on the 3DS but poor sales of Shadows of Valentia and decling 3DS support killed it.
A Echoes style FE6 or FE7 remake would probably be the best the series can be. What Echoes did right was production values: full voice acting, different dialog options in certain characters died, an actual postgame. The issue with Shadow of Valentia was they didn't remake the garbage map design of the main stages. Put too much work into dungeons when they're such a small part of the game.
I don't think Intellegent Systems has it in them to remake another Fire Emblem on the Switch. I think they would rather make a new game.
Basically the story does one thing right, which is that it shows the ramifications of picking a side.
But on the actual plots of each route, Corrin is really stupid, and makes poorly written and thought out decisions.
>corrin is really stupid
I just played as F!corn to bear with that.
>Sorta assumed Seth would become shit late game (as usually happens with powerful early-game characters in RPGs) so I didn't want to waste EXP on him.
This ain't Shadow Dragon/New Mystery, Seth is probably the most broken character in the series in terms of how hard he consistently rapes his game from start to finish. Even Robin needs a little help at the start of Awakening, which is the only really difficult part of the game.
Reviewers were most likely thinking of gameplay, art style, music, etc. FE fandom here is full of reddit storyfags who stuck around after the leaks.
I'd prefer if they remade one of the SNES entries.
How hard is Birthright on the highest difficulty? Is it comparable to normal difficulty in the other games?
why? I can only imagine a thracia remake being a disaster
Personally I feel like an Echoes version of 8 would be peak FE, at least for the Gaiden side of things. Just needs a new difficulty or two that'll bump up enemy stats into something approaching respectable, and some extra content bolted on somewhere, maybe some extra side content for the main campaigns since they're kinda short.
anything but Fates.
I love this nigga like you wouldn't believe.
Echoes
FACT: There has never been a good story or characters in a Fire Emblem game. The best the series has to offer in both of these areas is insanely mediocre.
FE games should be judged on the strength of their gameplay, and that alone.
Where's your source on that "fact"?
I agree with your second point, but I liked Jill's character arc.
Source: I've played all the games.
Conquest >>>>> Awakening/Birthright >>>Revelations >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Echoes
Loved Conquest even with the shitty story. Awakening and Birthright were alright. Rev had too many shit maps but I didn't hate it. Echoes was garbage as an actual game, all the good parts were the VN-tier elements.
Awakening/Fates are honestly great games and I like them more than 3H. I think FE works better on a handheld.
Also, the sound design (along with the general pacing in gameplay) of the 3DS games is way more satisfying. You know when you like select a unit or scroll through the menu? I can't be the only one who thinks this right?
FE fandom is fucking autistic and are only happy if they can nitpick things to death.
>I think FE works better on a handheld
You know that the switch has a handheld mode, right?
I mostly played 3 houses in handheld mode in bed or on the train.
Echoes
Neither of the others had any redeeming qualities
Go read a VN, you don't actually like strategy games.
but I watched all the chapters on youtube! That counts, right!?
CQ > Awakening > BR > SoV > Rev
CQ has the best gameplay
Awakening is fun to dick around with and see what broken abominations you can make
Same for BR but it's a bit less engaging because you're locked out of half the shit
SoV is a tiring slog
I honestly haven't played Rev but given what I've seen of the maps, I doubt my ranking will change.
i just started playing FE Echoes and i turned faye into a pegasus knight and the starter dudes into mercenaries because it gave them the most stat boosts. but now i have no archers and only the cleric they give you. did i fuck up, can i get good archers and mages later
I love strategy games. Shame the 3DS has none.
>NOOOOOOOOOOOO CONQUEST IS HARD THAT MEANS IT'S GOOD YOU'RE A CASUAL AAAAAAAAAAAH
Enough with this fucking meme.
gee i wonder why it failed, couldn't possibly be that it had like $40 of DLC shit which is ridiculous for a 3DS game
You're gonna want a Cleric at least. Archers are the most broken shit in the game later on, but they're not strictly necessary.
>mercenaries
They'll promote to dread fighters, you'll be fine. Early game will be a pain because you won't have a good mage to kill Desaix, but it's manageable. I made that mistake too.
That said, if you ever decide you want to replay for some reason, Faye wants to be a cleric, and you'd ideally want Tobin or Kliff to be an archer, because 15 range bows are retarded.
Does Devil Survivor not count as one? Or is that too RPG for you?
When fates was announced IS said something like "we heard all the complaints about Awakening's story so we brought in this super awesome manga author to write our new game". In the trailers they also made a big deal about choosing a route based on loyalty to adopted family vs blood-related family (which turned out not to actually be blood related, and the actual decision was almost entirely based on the type of gameplay the player was looking for, but whatever). So to game reviewers it came across as a story focused game. Reviewers don't actually play video games, they write reviews and score games with the least effort possible. They obviously don't understand anything about gameplay either, but they can tell what score they should give a game based on the hype levels and public expectations. They have to write something that fits with the score so they write "engrossing story".
1: It's a DS game, ranking it among 3DS games is bullshit
2: Yes
Awakening was too hard. Birthright had too much censorship so I decided it will be my last fire emblem game on 3ds. I preferred birthright over awakening. I've only ever played awakening, fates birthright and warriors(switch).
>It's a DS game
Both Devil Survivor 1 and 2 have 3DS versions that add a good bit of content.
>Yes
Well that fucking sucks for you, I guess.
loaded this man up with so many goddess icons
>Awakening was too hard
You're about to get memed on. The only way you can try and save face is if you say you were doing lunatic+
>>>Awakening was too hard.
Extremely easy, and the story is basically you join the good guys and become even more of a Mary Sue.
>Hoshido
>good guys
Nohr is comically evil, but Hoshido sure as shit ain't good, they just like pretending they are.
It's the fe8 of 3ds games
easy with no noteworthy maps
still good though with good music and many things to mess around with
conquest>gaiden>awakening
Never got past the first few chapters of birthright and revelations.
FE:A: Easy as fuck, but fun for a casual romp.
Fates: FE:A 2.0, Dumb as fuck and ONE GAME FOR THE PRICE OF THREE bullshit, but i honestly liked the class variety keeping the kingdoms distinct, Child units were pointless and detracted form every single game. I actually like F.Corrin because she is such a Bimbo., it actually has good ideas but fucked up execution hard of them. Three Houses does the CHOOSE YOUR SIDE gimmick better.
Echoes: Interesting ideas but it actually feels slow as fuck, i would advocate for it being the standard of future FEs but as a Sidestory it is perfectly fine.
So i gonna go with Fates for being delightfully stupid and fun to rip on.
>sacred stones
>no noteworthy maps
I really liked the one where you defend the throne.
Honestly, none of them. They didn't have the "soul" of FE
You mean the fog of war one where you kill the boss on turn 2?
I like the one where you rescue duracell and the egg one was pretty cool for a rout map.
I always found pair up confusing as shit mechanics-wise. What units give certain stat buffs and shit. I know in Awakening you can just PU Robin and Chrom and steamroll the game but I don't know why exactly.
Maps are arguably the best thing FE8 has going for it though.
If the map layout was the only criteria maybe but enemy placement and stats are part of the map too
Personally I split map design and enemy design, even though they both play off of each other in terms of actual gameplay.
Yeah, that one. I've never got what people's problem with fog of war in these games is. It's not a problem if you just bring priests or torches.
I might be mixing my AW and FE knowledge here, but last I recall GBA IS games didn't play fair with Fog of War.
Fates. It's just so charmingly retarded plotwise that it makes me smile thinking about it.
FE3H really dropped the ball when it came to class variety. It's probably just cause Fates made such specific class lines and skills that stood out from each other while Three Houses homogenized the class system.
The only game where I dislike fog of war is FE12 because you can't do anything to increase your sight and it's often paired with really lame maps.
I don't remember that FE8 map being very interesting, and the fog of war barely mattered, but I've never tried defending until the time limit ran out so maybe I'm missing something.
>He hasn’t played Maddening
Fates is my favorite. I love three houses but I still love Fates more. I love Dimitri, but Xander is still my husbando and always will be.
you're rating b, and r too highly there. there's nothing at all good about Birthright or Rev.
>ost
>gameplay mechanics
>graphics
>designs
Even if the level design and balancing diminishes their impact, the gameplay mechanics in all fates routes are excellent. The skill system, class system, etc. The music is also somewhat better than awakening.
I wanna replay Awakening, but I don't wanna put up with the broken as fuck pair system.
>The name Echoes implies that at one point they were thinking about remaking other FEs on the 3DS but poor sales of Shadows of Valentia and decling 3DS support killed it.
Read the Iwata asks for it and realize your stupid headcanon is completely wrong.
It's probably in between Awakening's Hard and Lunatic modes
Don't use it. Awakening hard no pair up is a decent experience
this 100%
How do you not use it, user?
Everyone still does dual blocks and pair attacks if they are next to each other.
Awakening is a good next step. Or 7/6. Fates is not worth playing.
this 0%
The stats a unit gets from PU depends on the class of the supporting unit. Say you have a berserker supporting someone, theyre going to get +10 attack and +8 speed or whatever numbers and a few smaller boosts elsewhere. Say you have a flier supporting someone, theyre going to get +6 speed and +4 luck and +1-2 movement.
>but I don't know why exactly.
The two have high growth rates and MU comes with Veteran, which gives him a shit ton of exp when paired up. Couple that with the fact you get both at the same time and Chrom's a lord, theyre going to snowball hard.
They dont get the stats though, and thats what pushes it over the edge. Unless you grind out supports hard, the incombat boosts you get from having an ally next to you is pretty minimal.
Exactly
It's really strange how there are actually people who prefer Awakening over the others.
Awakening, followed closely by Conquest if you skip every cutscene
this because Robin
The one that didn't contain faggotry but had incest in it. God forbid there's faggotry in my game.
I'm playing Sacred Stones and I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm also cheating and I give no fucks about it.
>I'm playing Sacred Stones and I have no idea what I'm doing.
nigga
read the fucking tutorials
>I'm also cheating and I give no fucks about it.
wew lad
Awakening easily.
I meant in the sense that I'm just blasting through the story and just using whoever I want.
>I meant in the sense that I'm just blasting through the story and just using whoever I want.
That's normal. You'd have to play on Hard, go out of your way to not use Seth and never grind for the game to pose any real challenge due to how pitiful enemy stats are across the board. If you want a bit more of a challenge play Ephraim's route.
Yeah, I figured it would be easy since you can grind for exp in the towers. Also the support system is fucking ass, how the fuck should I know when they are ready to talk?
>Also the support system is fucking ass, how the fuck should I know when they are ready to talk?
You could wait for a few dozen/hundred turns on a map with them next to each other, clear the map and then check to see if they're ready to talk. Alternatively you can look them up online like a sane person and stop dealing with the GBA support system.
this. fix update and balance and western release
Awakening was my favorite but I haven't played fates or echoes yet.
