I get that, he could be a Swordfighter Mii costume too. I just thought it would be neat to have one of each and Claude fits in as a "gunner" and Edelgard would have to be swords despite using an axe.

I had a similar idea for Dimitri if he had to get in with a gimmick in that each weapon had a different special or two and different stats/uses. Stronger ones like Gradivus and Areadbhar would hit harder than say an Iron Lance and a Heavy Spear but each would have their own stats, effects and a special. Down special would pull up the menu to change and the number of hits you could deal before they break is shown like Robin.

To elaborate further.
Areadbhar would hit like a fucking truck but only have the least uses.
The heavy spear would be slower framedata-wise but deal extra damage to shields.
Gradivus would hit harder than the iron/heavy spear and have a ranged attack but less slower frame data
Iron lance would deal low damage but be quick

I'm conflicted. I'd be excited had Nintendo not already ruined Fire Emblem's Smash representation with the most boring ass picks, and I have no doubt they'd play it safe with fucking Byleth instead. Had they been sparse and well chosen maybe Dimitri could've created excitement, but at this point I kinda feel it's time to stop hogging the roster and give the other franchises a chance. I say all this despite loving Three Houses.
