wait didn't that get a Euro localization?
no
fuck
>co/directed by Suda51
WHAT
wasn't 4 the one with all the shitty jump scares?
fucking who cares
It was marketed in EU then Nintendo pulled out when KT refused to fix some game breaking bugs for the western release.
Yeah, and he hates horror games. It's pretty unique.
fftranslations.atspace.co.uk
>wasn't 4 the one with all the shitty jump scares?
That was 3
It was never released. It's probably finished sitting in some filing cabinet in Germany.
That was 2 Wii and that version was more botched from the localization than 5 was.
We'll get a V or II port before IV.
2 wii still best fatal frame game though
>another port of 2
No
And the best we can hope for on PC is Dreadout 2. Fuck.
Based. Still have my wii u hooked up specifically to replay it.
>Another
But the Wii version is a full remake.
Does Nintendo own this series now?
Yeah, which is why its been a straight downhill ride since the wii.
I don't think so since you can still buy the PS2 games on the PS Store. They most likely own the ones released on Nintendo platforms though.
What? Fucking how?
No, but Nintendo Japan is the one paying to keep making them, and Koe seems fine with that. The problem is that NOA doesn't give a shit about the games, and worst yet, now that the Switch is región free, we have no news about them...
2 wii generally considered to be best in the series, with 4 and 5 close second
Pseudo fans who came together with gamergate hate nintendo releases though
4 is better
I don't know if they had a hold in this entries as strong as the one they have with Bayonetta sequels. But it seems Nintendo's is the producer of the latest entries, so everything from 4 forward belon to them. Not sure if 2 remakes fits that too, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Still, the IP belongs to Tecmo, so if they get the budget to remake those entries, they may stoll be able to be multi, yet again, Nintendo Japan seems to be the only one iteresred on IP right now.
I always found it funny his wife made him do it because she was a fan. But yeah, this was unfortunate collateral of the Itagaki fallout. Nintendo didn't want to give more money to Tecmo/GhM to fix the bug due to the lawsuit fiasco which is why it never got localized. Kind of amazing that Nintendo kept good relations with both Itagaki and Tecmo afterwards.
No, they co-own the games they pay for (like Bayo 2 basically).
They own the Spirit Camera IP though (the spinoff released on 3DS).
They're the only ones interested in financing it, since it's niche as fuck and KT can't really risk it alone (or as a multiplat).
Even bugs and 4 being unplayble sometimes aside, 2 wii made hand totally random while in 4 it was scripted, so you knew which item is dangereous on second walkthrough
Also nothing can compare with two new endings in remake
I'm getting into Wii emulation nowadays, should I play the 4 or 2 remake? Played 2 on PS2 before.
Maybe you're thinking the FF2 remake.
Man, people should start enjoying good jumpscares instead of complaining about them.
The Fatal Frame games would be a hit if released elsewhere. Nintendo financed several flops since it has gone under their supervision.
if you've already played 2, might as well play 4 now.
4 is still worth checking out. 2 remake is for morbid curiosity only and it pretty worthless if you've played the original.
>Nintendo financed several flops
Pretty sure IV is the best selling, FF has always been niche.
How terrible are the bugs?
Fatal Frame and Siren are in a genre of really niche horror games. They'd have to change the gameplay to make it sell more.
Btw, Fatal Frame 4 is the best selling game in Japan, and the LE of 5 did well in EU (5 sold as usual in Japan, not better nor worse).
Don't say the game is selling badly just because NOA hates the IP. It does well in EU and JP (as in either the same as usual in this franchise or better)
I'm still hoping user
ONE DAY
There's at least one gamebreaking bug which held up localization, but I think modders/patchers fixed it. It's documented enough to avoid it though.
5 is
>2 remake is for morbid curiosity only and it pretty worthless if you've played the original
what the fuck are you talking about
>Btw, Fatal Frame 4 is the best selling game in Japan
And it has now been dormant for 5 years due to a censored, god awful wii u exclusive. Not a peep on it.
>god awful wii u exclusive.
>5 is loved by everyone
huh
is loved by everyone
It had the weakest reception of the series, earning 4-6/10's across the board, censorship debacle and lack of a physical release makes it unapproachable by most. What are you talking about?
Again, the problem is NOT here, but the franchise is doing as "well" as it has always done. The problem is if Nintendo would ask for a new one, cause Tecmo is clearly not making one by themselves, and no one elses is giving them the money.
it has been dormant because it's fucking niche.
Nobody wants to finance a new game apart from Nintendo when they don't have many games planned. Hell, it even ended up in Smash.
I meant NOA, but autocorrector decides otherwise.
You can't complete 100% the game, there are 233 ghosts supposedly but you can only capture 227, getting 233 ghosts unlocks a special lens, which you can't.
They could turn around and do a 1+2 hd re-release on the ps4, boner and be met with record breaking sales for the series. Nintendo stifling the series is doing nobody any favors.

>About the future of the Zero series
Izuno: I've done some exploring to see if there's any other fun things we can use the gamepad for besides a camera, but couldn't incorporate it into this game, so I'd like to try out those things next time.
>Ohtani: I have ideas about trying to change Zero. I'd like to have a think about what kind of a Zero we could make that would be played worldwide.
>Sakamoto: I think there are lots of people who aren't so great with horror games and maintain a respectful distance, so I hoped that the emphasis on the sexiness in this game will have acted as a gateway that makes people think, "This is scary, but I want to give it a go." I hope to make another chance for people to find it fun to play if we make a sequel.
>Osawa: Out of the things Mr. Shibata and I spoke about in the initial planning stages about what to do next, there are two things we didn't use in this game. If we do another, I'd like to make use of those unused things somehow. It would be quite different to the current Zero, though.
>Shibata: This game began by destroying Zero, and was made with the hope that different customers to usual would be brought in, but I think upon reflection that maybe the crucial scariness of the ghosts was a bit lacking. I'd like one more time to use a system where you're scared but can avoid it to rework Japanese horror.
>Kikuchi: We made the first Zero game in 2001, and the year after next it will welcome in its 15th anniversary. It's something that could be called Shibata and my life work, but with some new impetus... be it the appearance of a new console, or some kind of anniversary, with some kind of timing like that I hope we can start planning. We're starting to exhaust the ideas that have already been used as far as horror games go, so I'd like to keep stocking up on ideas to create a new fear.
>It had the weakest reception of the series, earning 4-6/10's across the board
Average at release was 0-8, should tell you enough
Oh wait, you was one of people who never cared about series, and put 0
>censorship debacle
Never existed aside of few gamergaters, no one cares about them
> makes it unapproachable by most
ahahaha
Oh wait, you serious
>What are you talking about?
About facts, 5 is one of the msot loved games in the series, second only to wii remake
5 is a flop both critically and commercially, but that's hardly several. Nintendo has only done three with IV being the best, V being the worse. I don't think we ever got numbers on the 2 remake.
Project zero VR when? I want to die from a heart attack so my family get the insurace money.
5 got bad reviews (by critics) because the game felt too "old-school" aka too close to the older games while they hoped for something like Amnesia.
Seriously, it's easy to check.
Bad user scores are just dumbasses whining about censored optional costumes, actual fans liked the game.
>1+2 hd re-release on the ps4, boner and be met with record breaking sales for the series.
delusional. I know you hate Nintendo, but FF is niche as fuck, it's not magically going to do gangbusters just because it's on PS4. With that logic FFIV should have sold a fuck ton more than it did on the wii
>Average at release was 0-8, should tell you enough
It's at a comfortable 60 now, which should tell you enough. Helps that fans deride it.
>Never existed aside of few gamergaters, no one cares about them
who? I cared because it was a Wii U game I wanted and swiftly turned to one I'd avoid.
>5 is one of the msot loved games in the series
maybe by wii u fans which are swiftly dying out.
Why do you think Siren is dead?
The reason to do a remake is to improve upon the original, or fix things, or go in another direction, do anything. the Wii remake is just a worse game in every way and does nothing interesting with the story or the gameplay.
It was literally a tech demo for the the team to try out Wii development and the stuff they would go on to do in 4. It has no real reason to exist other than as a prototype for bad ideas. Like I said: morbid curiosity. Do you want to know how the series started going downhill with 4 and 5? Go play the 2 remake.
>5 is loved by everyone
lol maniac. No one loved that arcade stage first person shooter masquerading as a Fatal Frame game.
>the game felt too "old-school" aka too close to the older games
It was nothing like the older games though. Unless you think that Resident Evil 5 is the same game as REmake.
>I know you hate Nintendo
Only disappointed in them, but try to hide how mad you are, fanboy.
>but FF is niche as fuck
A series which saw releases on Xbox, PS2, Wii are not niche. Maiden of Black Water is niche but Nintendo is to blame for that. Nintendo is to blame for the series being so underwhelming over here really.
>it's not magically going to do gangbusters just because it's on PS4
it would, horror is in and classic re-releases always get a lot of buzz.
Huh. Where was this published?
>the Wii remake is just a worse game in every way and does nothing interesting with the story or the gameplay.
This is how you know that opinion is worthless
Sony focusing on Western titles more than supporting their own in-house productions. Last I heard Siren is getting a new installment since gravity rush is finished.
sites.google.com
Sales numbers are from Famitsu. Obviously only updated as long as those numbers are in the top 1000 sales in a year, and without digital sales.
Siren sold the same numbers as Fatal Frame, but with a bigger budget.
Here's your reason why it's dead.
>sites.google.com
This is very useful. Thanks.
>Here's your reason why it's dead.
It's getting a new game however?
All the FF games need to be re-released for fuck's sakes.
KT really needs to get their head out of their ass and do shit besides Warriors
I'll believe it when it's actually announced rather than fans speculating on nothing.
>whining about censored optional costumes,
To be fair, that is something worth railing about
It doesn't. Dude you can go put wagglan controls, new fanfic endings and RE4 camera into Silent Hill 2 as well and it will probably turn out "ok" as an experiment simply because the foundation is incredible. But it's not going to improve shit however and no one should play that over the original.
Not really given what it was, and how it was optional.
It's not like the ridiculous TMS stuff or even what happened with XCX.
It doesn't seem Tecmo is on the labor unless someone is willing to pay for the efforts, and again, for some weird reason Nintendo Japan is the only who seems to be interested. And once again, the franchises isn't doing specially worst because of it. If anything with Xbox market, and current Sony, the best place for Fatal Frame outside nintendo is PC IMO, but a third party publisher for PC on Japan would be even more difficult to get.
NOA is to blame of the series current state on the west... but it's not like we would have anything to begin with without Nintendo Japan.
I'm just repeating what Toyama said.
100%, the game also fucking sucked.
>I'm just repeating what Toyama said.
He just said he hopes he could work on a new game. He can't do shit unless Sony greenlights it.
Wow, that's more than Nintendo has done for Fatal Frame in 5 years.
You mean like putting Fatal Frame in Smash?
youtube.com
Suda put a Siren shirt in TSA too. Even the Switch version. More than Sony kek
Hopefully that mean FF5 port next year and FF6 for the 20th anniversary.
What's your favorite ghost from each game? For me it's
1 - Blinded
2 - Woman in Box
3 - Crawling woman
4 - (Didn't play)
5 - The one who cuts her own throat
>he hates horror games
Didn't he work on Michigan?
Not only botched localization wise, but terrible in the gameplay department. The motion controls were way too inconsistent and sensitive compared to 4. Sometimes I had to swing the Wii remote all the way just to aim the camera at the ghosts.
He wasn't the director. I think he just contributed to some of the creative planning.
1 - Broken Neck
2 - the doll twins
3 - crawling ghost
4 - hanging woman
5 - the tall woman
2 remake was EU only and censored, 4 was never released outside Japan, and 5 was just a shit show of how badly it was released. Not only was 5 censored but I believe you needed an external HDD just to run it officially on the WiiU.
That'd be the best case scenario yeah. FF6 is a possibility I think.
>One series we haven’t heard about for a while that has a passionate fan base is Fatal Frame. Are there plans to continue this series?
>Koinuma: This series is currently being serialized in a manga [in Japan]. We don’t have new information about the series at the moment, but as Koei Tecmo we believe this is one of our valuable IPs. When the time is right we will make an announcement, please be patient for it.
>Game is about collecting ghosts
>6 of them are bugged so you can't collect them
How was 4 even released in this state. It was still fun though. Just disappointing that I couldn't 100% it.
How can such an obvious hack job still manage to be the scariest fucking games ever?
I only played the first like 2 chapters of 5 but I fucking loved it. The ghosts were more aggressive than ever and really creepy. God I wish I could play more but it's too late to buy a WiiU and CEMU is a BOTW machine.
With LM3 being a keystone switch title for horror/October and Nintendo being set on porting all of their wiiu games I think it's safe to say we won't see a FF5 port until next year.
>to this fucking day Nintendo is still trying to sell fatal frame on Wii U for $50
>digital onry
Fuck you digital fags
I mean, it's not like ALL horror games need an october release. Besi deseas the best case scenario is for a 5 port (which after TMS of course I believe it's happening) to promote 6 coming later that october.
>It was literally a tech demo for the the team to try out Wii development and the stuff they would go on to do in 4.
Fatal Frame 4 was released 4 years BEFORE the remake of 2.
They don't need to, but the western release of FF5 was originally in October as well to fill the horror slot. I think it's a safe bet for next year to fill an empty slot. The real question is whether or not Devil's Third is also getting ported. There's only Pikmin 3, XBX, Mario 3d World and that left and the former 3 are definitely happening.
That just reminds me the FF5 trailer was named "spoopy" by the one girl right before she got fired for being outed as an escort
Why Devil's Third and not W101?
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY gives a fuck about Devil's Third, and frankly it wouldn't surprise me if it was the only game left as a "Wii U exclusive"
don't bother, he doesn't seem to have played any game past PS2 and is just mad because of that.
>The real question is whether or not Devil's Third is also getting ported.
Does it have any fans at all? I remember thinking it looked like a bargain bin shooter when it was revealed.
I thought a W101 was already more or less confirmed? Pretty sure Inaba mentioned it in an interview.
The only reason people (Even me) would even remotely want it is because Cookie man made it. If it wasn't for that reason nobody would care if it wasn't ported.
What even happened to Itagaki? Did he quit?
Yeah I got those backwards, sorry.
God the fucking interview with those dipshits still pisses me off to this day. Every single thing they say is pure cancer.
>We had kept making games directed at core fans of the Zero series, so we had decided that we wanted to keep the concept of "fear created by the imagination". Another was the concept of "everyone scared together". The biggest hint towards something like this was the number of people who enjoy watching Let's Play videos of the Zero games on the internet, and how exciting it was when previously the foreign media gathered and played it together. We wanted it to be something that would be fun to watch, even if you weren't playing yourself.
>Fuck the fans, let's make a game for Let's Players
Who goes into remaking one of the greatest horror games of all time with this mindset? It's no wonder everything went down the shitter so fast.
Lot of teases, but nothing yet, The biggest tease so far is the cast playing with the Swtich in a piece of art... but it was the same for the Bravely Defaults fans as well.
None the less, after the success of Astral Chain, and with Xenoblade DE taking priority on the pipeline for the IP, I think it's either W101 or Pikmin 3 as the next major port after TMS.
Granted, Super 3D world or the HD gamecube Zeldas could also come at any minute now, but I think they fit better as some kind of filler before the release of the next Mario game or BOTW2.
FF5 meanwhile, could also come at any moment as well, cause even though it's partially a Nintendo game, is also Tecmo's, so it's release still comes mostly on their part, once they get the budget to do so.
Beats me, as far as I'm aware he's still at the company he started. But otherwise I haven't heard any news about him.
He ported the multiplayer of Devil's third to PC, and we haven't herd of him ever since... I think the studio got a lawsuit, though I don't remember why.
He's still CTO of his company (pretty successful, does games for other publishers).
Seems like he's not in gamedev anymore though.
There was that interview a few months back where he said "We’ve done a lot of intel gathering and the only thing that I can say right now is that I’m glad we did." It sounds like they think the demographic is there.
I thought he left Valhalla games? and now they're low key Nintendo's bitch. They got tossed that one 3DS game with the Konami IP and then got put on assisting Travis Strikes Again
Well, if there thought about that before Astral Chain, with the current hype, it seems the perfect timing to do so.
Though, looking a some of the Switch ports coming, I would be baffled if Square would come now and Ask them if it's remotely possible to port Nier as well. In any case, even if that ever gets to happen, I do think W101 is more likely, and probably coming. Again, only Pikmin 3 seems close in likehood on the pipeline right now... and even, is clear that Star Fox Zero is meant to be the only game to die alone on WiiU by the end.
The FF4 bug was patched and fixed a long time ago and even works with the translation patch.
The fact that TMS got announced in this past direct instead of Pikmin 3 leads me to believe that the Pikmin 4 reboot rumblings are true and they're holding it off alal MPT and MP4.
>not fixed, the lens just unlocks even without having to 100% the ghost list
wew
Still awesome work though, those guys are awesome. And thanks for posting that mod. I'm pretty sure the old Zero4.iso file I have is unpatched and there's enough cool shit on that list to make me want to go replay it.
I tried playing the fan translation but waggle doesn't work for this.
>censored optional costumes
except the costumes also appear in a cutscene and are censored there as well. except instead of the replacement costume it's just default
I don't think its a mod seeing as
>playable Madoka Ghost
is listed. Its mostly an official update patch that was released after the game was released but also after the fan translation was almost finished seeing as how people were playing it in english and still complaining about it being buggy. So I guess none bothered to look back that there was an update for the game.
Wait, they patched it? I thought most of the debacle around 4's cancelled western release was the dev team not having the time/money/care to patch it and Nintendo didn't want to pay them or something. Either way that's cool shit whoever fixed all that stuff.
