Steam version, patched with 07th mod's patch for console sprites and voice acting. Make sure to check "bgm fix" and "sfx fix" when you're patching.

There a few console exclusive chapters which you can also play with 07th mod's sprites, but save those for after you beat the main 8 chapters.
The original sprites are the most charming for sure, but it's a lot easier to get immersed in the story and the horror with the ps3 sprites imo, this goes for both higu and umi

the ps2/ps3 sprites are much worse . they transformed ryu07's shitty but charming art into most generic looking, design-by-committee anime looking sprites ever.

Not that guy, but I read it initially without voices so I had my own voices in my head and the voices they actually gave them really didn't fit what I had imagined.

For Umineko I actually prefer the PS3 sprites. But Higurashi is tougher for sure cause all the sprites suck ass.
