I really love Puyo. I think it's up there with Tetris for games I would consider 'perfect.' I'm trying to make a puzzle game in a similar spirit but Puyo is special in a different way, I don't think I could match it. I'd love a new game that commits to the eighties anime style of the originals, animated or otherwise. I don't really like the rigged, flat animation in the current games, really all the ones since the sixth generation.

I personally think that a Puyo Puyo game with 24+ playable characters is something that is potentially possible as long as fans keep up the demand thats what they would want.

I tried to learn this game earlier this year but I just couldn't fucking do it. It's easily the hardest game to learn, way harder than fighting games or RTS. I spent hours trying to do the patterns but nothing clicked, and the information about the game is super scarce.

Go to youtube and search for puyo puyo stairs tutorial, sandwich tutorial, GTR tutorial and tail tutorial.
Learning stairs alone can easily get you up to a 5 chain.

I should probably add that learning the neccesary information for these techniques takes like only 5 minutes. The rest is just to put it into practice.
It really helps knowing that getting good at puyo doesn't take as much time as one would think, or at least learning what to do.

Knowing how to make a combo out of anything is probably useful to some extent I'd imagine, especially if the board is leaving clutter after executing the main combo you've built.

Though one thing you didn't mention that is pretty good to know is tailing.
