Germany here, yes was a big thing. Later they somehow turned it into a gameshow for N64. You basically just icked your player (some weird characters link a king i think and 2 others) who played the game. If they succeded you won the N64.

i think that was kind of the issue. i remember being really confused that i could just play any of the levels right from the start without having to complete or unlock them

They used some weird tech that calculated DTMF latency between the TV station and the player and delayed events (change between train tracks, jump into a platform) ingame to make it playable

Hell man I remember this. After Hugo my country had a bunch of these type of shows where you play the games through your phone. True nostalgia bomb this one.

Still have it on PS1. It's unironically one of the hardest games I've ever played in my life. I probably couldn't even beat it if I started playing it now.
