First, if you've ever read a 10k or 10q, you'd know they don't release that much internal data. Second, and this is a big factor, investors love products you can expand on since it means you can keep customers interested in your product. WoW classic has a lifespan of sorts since theoretically if it keeps going forever, every player that keeps playing will get to 60 and get awesome gear and decide he's "beat" the game. Now obviously they can either release classic + (which I don't think will ever happen) or keep going by releasing BC, Wotlk etc. But I think in order to consider the future of classic, blizzard themselves is internally assessing its long term viability right now before trying to pitch anything to investors. So we can come back to this discussion in 6 months and if classic still has a vibrant playerbase then MAYBE retail development would start to get shifted a little to the future classic stuff.

BFA still has like 12+ Full servers and 12+ High servers, never underestimate the power of Blizzdrones. They'll never give up, they're in too deep. Ironically at least half of classic's player base is idiotic retail players who just want to hit 60 so they can get their "free" 110 from their generous Blizzard masters, even though getting to 60 takes way longer than leveling to 110.

I'm saying that blizzard right now looks at WoW classic as a profitable side-project, but it's in no way a RETAIL KILLER like some people like to claim. And I like blizzard and I like classic, I also like making money and I made a few thousand dollars buying ATVI stock right before classic release since I predicted the run-up. Keep in mind, they are still full AFTER they increased server capacity (each server has the max population equivalent of about 10 vanilla servers spread across all layers).

I'm glad classic players are enjoying themselves, I like retail a bit more but I do miss vanilla shaman. It'll be interesting to see where WoW goes but its a shame that the better aspects of vanilla couldn't be brought into current retail and vice versa.
