At least pre-orders kickstart are uses an one-payment format with a specific time limit. Patreon's format is completely against video game development, since everyone knows that the cash flow will stop as soon as the game is released, so intentional development hell is more important than the release of the game itself.
Patreon works better for projects with shorter "development" time, like art and videos.

so in a lot of cases it can be a better idea to publish & instantly dump the game, whereas with patreon there's an incentive to keep the game going and release new characters/maps/abilities/items/gamemodes/bugfixes/whatever the fuck your game can have more of
