Why are there no big AAA games that use unity but plenty that use UE4?
Why are there no big AAA games that use unity but plenty that use UE4?
deja-vu
because it's shit
Because tencent pays your wages
Again with this shit? Fuck off spammer
because unity is the walmart of game engines
ue4 is free, open sourced engine with a lot of features and tools
unity is closed, requires monthly payments per worker, every tool requires another payment per worker (even despite they are better than what ue4 has), workflow and UI isn't made for something bigger than jam game.
>people only realising the same guy is remaking threads day in day out
wew
>ue4 is free
revenue sharing isn't exactly free.
godot is the only free modern engine out there
Generally, Unity is for small indie game making. it lacks features like a lot of other game engines
SVN.... goddamn, I remember the company i worked for was working with a Unity game, everytime the code was updated, we have to pass it around with flash drives instead of using a SVN
I dunno if this is no longer the case, but I wouldnt touch Unity with a 10 foot pole if i was working in a large game company
free enough for any AAA company, you can still create, prototype and delete every game in ue4 without any cost which you can't do with Unity.
you always could use SVN in unity, someone in your company was so retarted to not only use unity but also to not know how to set up SVN
well UE > all
godot > Chink bloatware/spyware
UE is shit. the only thing it does is look good.
Closed source engines in general are pretty unpopular. They limit how much optimisation you can do and (more importantly) they have bugs which you cannot fix, and it's not usually worth their time to fix an obscure bug that breaks your project so you can be waiting a very long time.
Have you considered that you might be incompetent?
>runs like ass no matter what
>looks like shit
>bloatware
>spyware
>only used by faggots and bugmen
>wrong, runs on toasters
>wrong, also contradicted yourself
>maybe, depending on your needs
>wrong
>edgy and wrong
Go to sleep, user, you're drunk.
>NO U
cope chink
People keep shilling Godot and while its the best one for 2D, its fucking crap for 3D
>>runs like ass no matter what
come on right now
whats the problem with godots 3D anyway? i keep hearing shit about various different things but there isnt any solid information on the 3D aspect of godot
It wasn't even a no u, though. I know you're just trying to shitpost, but you're doing a terrible job.
I hate these engines and whatnot. Back in the day devs all made their own engines and no game would look and feel the same. Now it's either unreal shit or unity garbage. And lots of devs are taking shortcuts with these engines by using premade assets and whatnot.
Heck anime games lately seem to have this problem. 9/10 times I can tell if an anime game uses the unreal engine just by looking.
Ah yes Godot, all of my favorite AAA games run on Godot in all the mayor consoles
Bugmen cope
these engines exist because the mid ware AA devs and industry doesnt exist anymore and it has also become too expensive just to make your own engine for a game that could flop
>playing AAA games
>on console too
lol
>using svn
>git exists
I shit you not.
Most experienced developers are c++ ones in game development.
UE is written in c++.
Also c++ is a dumpster fire of language.
Game dev in D when?
Unity has loads of drag 'n' derp tutorials on getting some models with textures, shaders and animations into your project trivially so amateurs think all development is this easy.
UE has shaderlab and post processing that's industry leading, so even if the engine is jank, stuff will look good.
Godot doesn't yet have that killer feature that people justify chaining themselves to middleware for.
That's all really.
But Unreal Engine SDK is not the EGS...
AAA development requires pushing boundaries just a little bit.
Where Unity tries to be a self contained editor/engine where everything is tied to the editor GUI, UE is more of an editor that creates the data that the engine needs.
If you are a AAA dev you'll have talent and experience and you'll find yourself totally hamstrung by Unity's model. UE will still get in your way, but you can see the source code that the real engine is using and work WITH it directly.
tl;dr Unity doesn't work the way AAA devs want to work.
i never said it was you dumb gorilla nigger, learn to fucking read mutt
You really are retarded.
>nigger cant read
>trys to call others retarded
You poor, poor retard. Can't even see the logic issues with your first post.
what part of unreal engine is chink bloatware/spyware do you not understand?
Pretty sure it has had SVN support for a while, and your team was just retarded
The part where you don't seem to know what you are talking about.
Great conversation, guys.
You cant even read! you dont even know what you are posting about
Unreal Engine *is* the fucking SDK, you idiotic piece of shit.
I'd love to make an engine but I'm in a programming slump. I can't even think of easy projects to do to get back into it let alone a semi featured engine to make a game with.
>make an engine
Have you learned nothing? This is the kind of work that would take a man a decade to finish.
It depends of what you want in said engine. You can put together a simple 3d engine in a week, it just won't do much. Unreal and unity are bloated as fuck because they need to cover a wider userbase. If I make an engine for a specific game, then tweak it as I go along with other games, then the actual dev time will be big but not unreasonable.
That is if I can get myself to even start.
>That is if I can get myself to even start.
That's your bottleneck because you KNOW, deep down, that doing so will be a gruesome task. Say what you will of Unity and Unreal, they do most of the work for you. And if you have bloat, then you shouldn't use blueprints. Make a game like the coder you are.
Do you have anything more to offer than spicy /g/ memes?
This. As shit as UE4 is, as annoyibg its bugs, the sheer amount of work it spares you with the editor, the shader handling, VS integration, prebuilt ai, physics and data model is staggering. An engine is way, way more than just rendering a few pixels.
Because UE4 is adjusted to the standard workflow and separation of tasks within the industry.
Low level coders fuck around in their c++, gameplay designers can just skip all the hassle and focus on the bleuprint noodles, material artists didn't have to wait years for a convenient graph-based shader UI and particle artist have a nice little display too.
/g/ autists consistently underestimate the importance of this because they're busy furiously masturbating over their language of choice, but the reality of vidya is that the large scale games are always a team effort, and majority of the team doesn't even get close to the code. And UE has way more convenience for these people than Unity.
Don't bother. At first I thought this idiot was trolling, but it turns out he's just stupid.
It's horrible and falls apart at the slightest attempt to do something beyond roll a ball.
>just wanna make a DOOM clone that also pays homage to 80's barbarian shit
>can't collect welfare like the gay trannies so I don't have time to learn how
Just transition lul
