Jowy is the most poorly written videogame character of all time

It save us having to hear him bang on about fate and how we must do battle because he feels insecure about his rune. Should have given him a womb tattoo if he was going to be such a bitch about it.

Why did Jowy not want to make peace with hero again?
He managed to poison the king, marry the princess and let hero kill Luca, so what's stopping him from pursuing peace? I'm sure the whole of Highland is exhausted at that point with war.

He bought into the whole "SWORD AND SHIELD MUST BATTLE FOREVER" tripe super-hard. It takes you standing still and calling him a fucking idiot while he tries to kill you for him to realize that the big, fated battle he thinks he deserves is the stupidest thing ever, and he's wasted everyone's time and gotten a lot of people killed over it.

It definitely is a spinoff, and it tries to explain that they're all connected somehow like alternate/parallel universes and timelines.
You still have 108 characters to recruit, you still have a castle to restore, but that's basically it. No minigames though. It's basically a budget suikoden.

I forgot to mention that the encounter rate is high. You will probably be fighting every 7 steps

Didn't he also think that one of the factions had to go before the war could be stopped? Also, didn't the Beast Rune factor into this in some way? I kind of remember that Jowy was dying at the end because he overused his power.

Man, I love this game. The gameplay is great and the twist blew my little adolescent mind. I need to replay it. I hope it is as great as I remember.

Wasn't it an extension of the war that they'd been fighting for years? They were in the middle of a ceasefire leading up to a peace treaty, but started back up again when Luca decided to go apeshit on a boy scout troop so he could make sure more people died. Seems like ending the war that's been going on for ages might have earned him some cred. Then again, his attempt to fight it out to the last resulted in the country being annexed, so I guess in the long the lack of a distinct national identity might help along the new peace.

Something that might have balanced out his decision was showing that Highland's citizens actually wanted the war. As it was Seed and Culgan would have happily surrendered if that was what the people wanted and the people of Highland didn't seem to give a shit, so it's hard to say his justification was rational if no one was left to backstab him.

If I recall, most of Highland's citizens were dead at that point, having been devoured by the Beast Rune.

I played this game when I was like 8 and it was my first JRPG except for FF9 which really I just watched my dad play. But anyway I was retarded and didn't know what the fuck to do and when I finally got through the forest and killed the mist monster I thought it was the end of the game. I thought the two dudes from the wooden fortress were the coolest characters ever and I wanted to fuck the circus girls.

I love this series. Even the entries tgat did not follow the formula (like 3) or were subpar (4 and tactics) had a charm to them that made them fun to play.

To me it will be 2>=1>3>5>4>Tactics. Didnt play Tierkries but heard it was bad.

No it's not. The 3d is pretty lame compared to the old spites. I mean going to the bath was fun in 1 and 2, 5 it's just depressing. The models look so lifeless, I don't think they even blink. Plot and villains are also trash compared to the first 2. Dealing with you're crazy mom was the most interesting part, and they put an end to that right away. Also it took forever to get your castle, felt even longer than 2.

5 proves that matriarchies are inherently flawed. I liked that part.

user please, 5 looks great, it's a massive step up from how bad 3 and 4 looked and the characters have loads of detail.
The plot and villains were great all the way up to the finale where it's got a giant butterfly from nowhere, but that's the same problem 1 and 4 had anyway.

The first suikoden was always the best one *sip*, that being said I just finished suikoden 3 and that was pretty good. Moved on to 4 and I don't know if I can handle the painfully slow boat travel for much longer.

I appreciate how they even had non-standard game overs. Not a perfect game, but Suikoden 5 had some pretty high points.

For what it was trying to do, Suikoden was definitely the one that did it best to me.

I understood that the major runes affected the wielder.
Luca for example is badly distorted by the beast rune. Jowy continues to attack and confront the Hero because it's what its rune is like.

Its not just the boat travel, everything about 4 feels sluggish. Its the only one I never played multiple times. It was so fucking bad that even 5 couldn't save the series from the axe, and 5 was pretty good

I play his Suikoden 1 battle theme on YT and WTF it's not the same as 2? I thought I heard that Neclord's battle theme in 1 too. In fact, when I first heard it in 2, I thought it was nice of them to bring back his battle theme from 1. This is weird.
