I was just recently playing a game where you get to violently murder newborn babies.
But in general yeah I can understand wanting to avoid the problems that come with killable children.
No excuse for essential adults though, morrowind solved this problem decades ago by just telling you you had fucked the story and giving you the option to reload a previous save.
