Ctrl to crouch is a very common key to use, and C tends to be less common, the idea is that this man has gotten used to crouching using ctrl, and ends up fucking it up every time out of habit.

Most cars, or older cars have the key spot on the steering column like in the pic, but some newer cars opt to have it in the front so you can see it. Therefore, he assumes it's on the side, instinctively puts the key there, scratches the side and goes "oh yeah, it's right here." and puts it in the right spot after the mistake.

Most older cars had the keyhole there so to have it in that position where it is in OP's pic is confusing for muscle memory. Of course most cars have fobs these days however which is probably why your zoomer ass doesn't know.
