To be fair, one thing you learn after playing a ton of Souls-likes is that skills are transferable. I had more trouble with Ornstein and Smough than all bosses afterwards in Dark Souls, and any boss at all in later Soulsborne and Souls-like games.

This game has some weird design choices. It's multitudes faster in pace than any Soulsborne game yet the player controls are just as slow if not slower (the healing is WAY slower and heals less HP per use)... And yet the slowest weapons, greatswords, are the most efficient.
I kind of love it. I can swing around a giant sword that puts Cloud's to shame and use spells that are absolute CANNONS without changing my build.
The healing kicks my ass though.

I got excited when I saw the custom characters thread, so I downloaded the demo.

Its a pretty barebones character creator. Not the worst out there, but not enough customization to really warrant entire homebrew waifu threads.
There are like 10 faces and 7 outfits. You can only slap on so many colors and scars before they start bleeding together.

People generally like it for the accessories. Shame about the limit

I genuinely hate saying this, but git gud. This game was very much designed against healing during combat. There's a second healing item that heals a LOT faster but it heals less and doesn't replenish; you have to get more of them.
If you're a pleb who can't dodge for jack shit (like me) then build yourself around two handed weapons because they have the best blocking.

there was items in the network test version that increased the amount you healed and another that increased how many times you could heal

The healing animation lasts at least 3 seconds. You're never gonna find a window that large unless you've got a companion and even then that companion is gonna lose aggro the instant you hit the heal button.

I'm in the minority here in that I've never played Dark Souls, only Bloodborne, but I'm getting through this game just fine. Granted I had to overlevel myself and abuse the Zweihander and Yakumo to beat the Queen's Knight, but... Hell, if you have a PS4 or Xbone, just give the demo a whirl.

The combat was a lot more engaging, and therefore noticeably more fun. But the thing about Sekiro was that it made me realize exploring was my favorite part about souls games and Sekiro was somehow really boring to explore despite having more places to go.

There is no point to exploring in Sekiro since you won't find anything that changes how you play besides some trinkets you won't really use. You're always going to be a sword man.

While I do agree that the combat system is a lot more fun than Souls, the huge hit to variety can leave it feeling a bit monotonous if you play it for too long.

if it'll require adding more stuff, i doubt it. at most pc will remove the slider limits and accessory limits which may make it possible to make the character really beefy/tiny and overload it with accessories beyond bamco's limits, but adding more sliders that control only specific parts of the model may be impossible, especially if the game uses a proprietary asset format.
