Unmemorable plot. Unmemorable characters. The Fa'cie al'cie etc shit is just awkward and never rolls off the tongue correctly. Can't say I enjoyed the game iirc.

The game is okay. Nothing super special but a good jrpg and one of the better FF's. The rabid hatred comes from people who don't like FF anyway, but pretend they do, mostly due to nostalgia.

I’m tempted to play it again just because the lore itself is interesting, and the whole machine god angle fascinated me, but not even that and Lightning’s armpits make up for the gameplay and general plot.

At least until the (admittedly bad) pc port came out and user actually started playing it. I agree with people that rank it as top mainline FF, it's not bad at all. Yeah it has a couple faults of course, but the good bits more than make up for it.
