It's the most visually appealing House of the Dead game. I played 3 first on a friend's Xbox Live Arcade back in maybe 2007. Had a fun time, still do with the PC version, but 2 fucking floored me with its aesthetics. Couple in the multitude of routes, the satisfying gore, the genuinely frightening chainsaw colosseum fight, and you have a recipe for a fantastic game.

I'd say it falls short in that some of those multiple routes I mentioned can only be gotten if you fuck up saving certain civilians. Really lame.

I feel like hotd is a valid example of when an older engine is better for the anesthetic it goes for

I fucking LOVE GunCon/lightgun games, but the older guns don't work on modern LCD/LED screens.

No, play the pc ports.
I tried all of them on Win7 and only the first HOTD had missing music while others ran perfectly.

I've been meaning to ask if this is better than the newer TOTD game.

HOTD 1 and 2 are my all time favorite arcade games. I wish there was an easy play to play Arcade games at your home. Someone should make some sort of universal arcade emulator machine and sell it.

It's an option in the debug on the old machines if memory serves. Most ports just have it in the options now.

Well it comes down to the cheesiness you prefer.
I think the typing of the dead 1 is slightly better than the sequel because it has more memorable moments/bosses, but overall they are both fun to play as typing games

If you like the Planet Terror movie, you gonna like Overkill because it like this movie with cheesy acting and lines, but if you prefer
hilariously bad-thats-good story/acting you gonna like the 1st one. Just check em on yt and pick one
