The beginning was good, when you are first navigating around and until you complete the Mail Room. Once you start collecting your objects of power the game is stupid easy. Story seems ripped from x. I just completed that 5 punchcard "puzzle" and haven't experienced any kino besides the satan chanting going into Dead Letters.

its a pretty mixed bag. Id say once again remedy fails to create something with lasting appeal even though its certainly infinitely better at that than anything else post MP1 sans maybe Alan Wake but Wake is the type of game you replay every now and then for some unexplainable abstract feeling instead of there being anything particularly addictive about its gameplay

Control has a pretty great world but the fast travel dilutes it. They should have axed all NPC.s that you talk to except Ahti. Darling, Trench and the Treshold Kids are all more interesting characters than the questgivers with checklist dialogues that you feel obligated to empty out every time even though every single thing they say is laughably boring and somehow just fucking insufferable to listen to. The world itself is interesting too but they dont fully use the "SCP" shit to their advantage, although the game does have a really small budget by the standards of the industry.

The core gameplay COULD be far stronger but right now its pretty unbalanced and gets pretty mediocre towards the end because the enemy variety is so low. In essence you only have two guns since nobody can bother going into a menu all the time to switch them, the pierce is the best gun anyway and even out of the two you have they fucking share an ammo pool with a cooldown so you wont be switching from one to the other mid combat to keep shooting for longer. The powers are pretty uninspired. The best thing about the game is the technology which is retardedly impressive. Bought it full price on console to support remedy but objectively I wouldnt go hailing it around as goty or anything. Definitely one of the better TPS games in a long time and definitely in the top 3 Remedy games but its no masterpiece

The writing/story is complete dogshit. Jesse is annoying as hell and even ruins the fun moment like ashtray maze by bluriting out "THAT WAS AWESOME" right after, like the player cannot understand what just happened for themselves. Don't give a shit about her character or Polaris or her brother. The side characters are also lackluster. The gameplay is serviceable but get boring quickly with how much you spam toss on enemies. The environment design is great and I was impressed with the destructibility, but the level design didn't go anywhere for such a "shifting place" like oldest house. Altered items where boring as shit and mostly consisted of vibrating and throwing shit around or where not creative like mirror or stoplight.

I wish I could have just played as the old director just cleaning up a normal day at the FBC.

Yeah pretty much, the ending made no damn sense. The character is a 6/10, and the 'girl power' thing through the entire game is irritating. Honestly the backstory in the game you find out from documents about when Jesse and her brother were kids and all the weird shit that went on is more interesting than the actual plot of the game.
