Ignoring the burchified “humor”, is it worth a playthrough?

It's dirt cheap to get it along with the Pre-Sequel and all the DLC

if you're playing the game play it with different VAs, French Jack is very good.
Japanese Gaige is also good

It's okay, but I can't imagine 3 is going to be somehow worse and it's going to have people to play with.

it depends on if you could tolerate borderlands 1
it's the exact same overall quality, but in completely opposite areas
>more enemy variety but way more grinding
>cooler classes but slower progression
>brands stand out more but there are less and the drop rates are dog shit

This game is meant to be played for a long time. If he is planning on doing a singular playthrough like his post implies he should I use mods to get the most out of a single run.

If you only want "a" playthrough, no. The game only really starts jelling near the end of TVHM (NG+), because that's when you start getting more skills active and you've likely found some better guns. But then you hit UVHM (NG++) and it just becomes a clusterfuck.

No, it's garbage.
If you are really hungry for a looter-shooter, go play Shadow Warrior 2. It has actually good combat and solid degree of depth to it's looter/upgrade mechanics.
Borderlands were always just a really shitty shooter with really shitty looter mechanics tacked on.

When judged purely as a shooter it's worse than mediocre. Gunplay has next to no feedback and enemies don't react to getting shot, it feels like you're depleting health bars rather than shooting enemies to death. At least half of your playtime is spent on commuting to your next boring shooting gallery or fiddling around to see which gun has the biggest numbers to help you deplete those bloated enemy health bars faster. It's a braindead skinnerbox nightmare designed to waste your time away, so basically a singleplayer/coop MMO. If that's not enough to make you want to blow your brains with one of those BAZILLION guns available, then the constant sardonic tryhard writing sure will be.

At least it looks pretty and has a pretty banging soundtrack by Jesper Kyd.

It's a looter-shooter. It has far more depth, but the core gameplay loop is largely the same, just expanded and richer. But ultimately they are both about going into chains of fairly repetetive combat arenas, collecting bling, and decking yourself in the best possible equipment possible: both offering the option to grind if you feel so inclined.

Though its still filled with dated 2010 memes, burch didnt go full retard until the dlcs started coming out. Mute the dialogue, turn on the subtitles and play through, its fun
Feel free to inject legendary weps wth gibbed save editor after your first playthrough though, gun drop rates are horrid in bl2. Also legendary weapons have some funny gimmicks most of the time

You know thats a lie user, loader bots are completely based around getting their limbs blown off. You can also shoot some projectiles out in the air and trip bandits by shooting their feet.

It's not worth if you don't have anyone to play it with.
