I have never held a joycon but having buttons straight on top or bottom of the analog stick instead of diagonally like the xbox/ps4 controller doesn't looks comfy at all.

They're not great, the switch pro controller is much better.

It's real bad in handheld mode for games that are action heavy especially on games like splatoon 2. They're not bad in the controller dock thing though.

The GC controller has the right idea about trigger buttons and limitation for analogue sticks, but the elimination of the select button and the AWFUL d-pad sour it a lot. The ABXY composition is a bit debatable, but it's mostly incredibly awkward for games of any other console.
