Because the .hack universe is so expansive that I feel like I'd be missing context for 90% of the game and will not be able to appreciate the world building. There is TOO much content in the series and I'd never be able to catch up.

Oh, that makes me feel a ton better. I downloaded that recode remake or whatever but dropped it early on because I was afraid of not understanding all of the little references they would be making. The forum section drew me in completely but made me realize just how little I would know.
