So I'm doing a BL playthrough. Every main mission NPC and major character has been related to either the Kingdom or the Empire. There has been I think one mission involving a group from the Alliance, I think? That may have actually just been a paralogue. I remember Hilda's brother having to stave off Almiryans constantly Not!Warring against him at the border for shits and giggles and then Lorenz has a really faggy looking uncle or something?

But then everything else is just Empire and Kingdom politicking and all the BL kids have tragic history connections to the NPCs that show up.

Where the hell does GD even factor into this story? My friend said that the GD playthrough consisted mainly of Claude reading lore tidbits to him, but all the NPCs and missions were the same, but post-time skip, you get to see more lore stuff and some freaky endgame stuff.

Hell, Lorenz ended up being an Empire presence in the BL playthrough rather than some kind of force from GD.

GD route is all about the true conspiracy behind the war. On BL you never find out what was really going on and only fight the Slithers in their disguises, instead making it a no nonsense war story battle against the Empire. Empire route is about what was going on behind the scenes in the Empire and Edelgards vendetta against the church.

As a power, the alliance is pretty low key and i think post skip is largely fighting itself, with half of it working for the empire and the other half being led by claude as he tries to unite them, aswell as trying to figure out the secrets of he church which leads into finding out about slitherers.

And yeah, imagine playing bl 1st and thinking the missions were tied to your house since the whole 1st half is bl centric as far as conflicts go outside of i think 3 missions. Then you start another route and its all the same outside of very few pieces of house specific development, part 1 being locked in was probably the worst decision these guys made, specially as you have to do it 3 times over atleast.

I went in expecting some big brain Claude plays doing investigations and uncovering conspiracies but he was just fighting a no nonsense war against the empire for 90% of his story. How was I wrong though? GD gives a better more in depth insight of the church and what they are about than BE does. They aren't fucking saints and do some messed up stuff, but the majority of their work is doing good things.

They made a big deal about how you needed the Agarthan's help to fight Rhea, and fighting Rhea is the climactic finale. They wrote themselves into a corner.

The last chapters story of BL is fucking great though? Just take a break and come back to it. Also they took the longest for me and the last chapter is basically them doing everything they can to stop you from just sending Dimitri in to wipe them all out. Just skip the monastery stuff to cut down time. Everyone should be in their end classes anyway, just auto instruct and rest outside of the first say visiting the units to see what they have to say.

It's not uncommon to one up a climax with a bigger finale though, I think it's a missed opportunity and BE only suffers for it.

Edels route is tacked-on and they ran out of time to make you fight the people the entire road hypes you up to fighting

It’s not entirely unreasonable to expect someone who doesn’t have the full perspective of what truly happened to the Nabeateans to see Rhea’s ploy as a way manipulate humanity to their whims, and based on information I won’t elaborate since it’s a spoiler, that is a large part of what drives Edelgard to do what she does in tandem with her backstory

Rhea deals with that shit way better than most people would and tries to fix things after humanity really fucked her and her people over. She can't see into the future and predict how humans would develop the crest system and other shit, but that is basically all on them not her. She just sets the church up to make sure people appreciate her mom and to keep peace so this shit doesn't happen again. Other than that she doesn't seem to care what humanity does and let's them rule themselves.

She does some kinda shady shit she fully admits to though. She isn't innocent or anything, but she really isn't bad and is perfectly willing to step down and sacrifice herself for humanity.

The first chapter before you get battalions and can start training your students is more of what I mean as hard.

To be fair those early battles are the hardest in the game because the game locks you into a tutorial and you aren’t allowed to build your students into full blown motherfuckers yet.

not to mention to the game's credit i don't think they've ever provided so much numerical information before
and like i said thanks to combat forecasts there's no reason you shouldn't be walking into something you're not prepared for
not to mention combat arts are great for underperforming units

Even barring the fact that shes one of two people actually able to use rescue, fortify can basically heal your entire army cross map in 1 cast, so the lack of physic is fine. Manuela is a far worse healer
