IT WAS TWENTY (20) YEARS AGO TODAY
WHEN SEGA DREAMCAST TAUGHT NA TO PLAY
I bought mine at Toys R Us, along with Sonic Adventure and Soul Calibur. Do you remember what you were doing twenty years ago?

20 years ago I was comparing dicks with my friends in the woods
>he bought a dreamcast
It was exactly 20 years ago that Sega doomed the Sonic franchise.
Yeah, it was only $50 by the end of its life cycle, and even today Dreamcast games are pretty affordable. Saturn is probably the cheapest console though, Sakura Wars for $5, Panzer Dragoon for $2, Virtua Fighter for $1?!?
To be honest Sonic has always been shit.
That is what killed Sega. Over-saturation and being paranoid trying to take over Nintendo.
They would still be around if they just knew their place and gained customers back over time. But instead they spergged out a new console every other year.
lol this pos is older than I am
The only kids who got Mega Drive had divorced parents or parents who didn't love them enough to buy them a Super Famicom
Super Mario > Sonic
Final Fight > Bare Knuckle
Final Fantasy > Phantasy Star
Always wanted one.
No, Sega of America killed Sega because they didn't want to release all the good Saturn games in the west and made shitty FMV games for the Mega CD instead
>mfw I worked for my dad at the time, and had spent all summer saving, so I bought a Dreamcast, every launch game, every accessory, and FFVIII that day.
>America killed a Japanese company
>Final Fight > Bare Knuckle
I agree with you on everything but that.
That's one of my biggest complaints of the later Sega era. They never really made anything original. Just alternative to already popular games, but never as good as the thing they were mimicking.
Yes you stupid frogposter. Everybody started losing faith in Japanese games around this point in history and thought Western games were the future. We only started bouncing back this decade.
Did I say America dropped a nuke on Sega HQ?
Did you think that Segata sanshiro ad was real?
You're a dumb cunt mate
>Did you think that Segata sanshiro ad was real?
Isn't? He died to save us.
It's the consumers fault they were shitting out consoles every other year and releasing shitty first party games?
...
I'm gonna say the Z word!
bing bing wahoo hey Sega where are a the a Dreamcast ports for a Switch you have a promised me
Sonic is peak zoomer-core.
No one from my generation actually talks about Sonic anymore.
You were an interesting looking console that paved the way for a lot of cool shit. But your death, as untimely as it was, couldn't be changed. You had shit marketing, came inbetween generations right before PS2, the best console to ever exist. Your library was shit with barely a dozen truly 10/10 games. So even if Sega was to dump their money into actually not garbage marketing scheme, ps2 would've terminated your existance one way or another.
I still wish I could have you in that bitching limited Code Veronica translucent red plastic. Oh well. At least you emulate really well. And as shit as your overall impression was, you are still aeons better than Saturn.
>buy dreamcast and FFVIII
Wut?
They launched the same day.
>Gen Z kids like Sonic
WHERE? SINCE WHEN?
based retard
My friends' five-year-old loves Sonic, and that's just because she and I briefly played Mania on my Switch, and she started watching the 90s cartoon on Netflix. I think kids are just naturally drawn to his cool design.
>Do you remember what you were doing twenty years ago?
I would have been around 5 but I do remember seeing a demo kiosk set up in a video shop that was running sonic adventure. Picked up a DC and 10 really good games about 10 years ago for £50 and never looked back. It's a great little system but collecting pal games specifically got really expensive real fast. If the compatibility wasn't still shakey I'd get a gdemu and save myself the hassle
Is worth to buy one today?
I mean kids born in the late 90s and 2000s
So do they not have a name for what's after Gen Z?
What's the next gen called?
Or will we just call them current gen children?
Generation Alpha
based if true
Yes, but not the seppo version
Get the Japanese one
Sucks that some of my gems are the uber priced ones.
The DC was too expensive for me becuase I was a dumb kid with no money but I remember looking at a Game catalogue and seeing all those awesome looking games like Sonic and House of the Dead.
Eventually I'd get a second hand DC much later and loved it. My favorite games are Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia and Jet Set Radio.
PSO is almost 20 years old god damn.
I got mine in 2001 with Dead or Alive 2 from JC Penny for $80.
I just want you to know I see what you did there, and I appreciate it.
Bumping 'cause fuck you.
Post your favorite games
>Seaman
>Sonic Adventure
>Soulcalibur
>Virtua Tennis
>Power Stone 2
Almost every Sonic game before Adventure is pure garbage.
I got a PS1 in 1999 with Crash 3, CTR, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone.
Good times. I'd been away over the weekend as a kid and went home and my parents had bought a Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure and set it up downstairs on the big TV.
Toy Commander was great, SA1 and SA2 were great, Chu Chu Rocket was fun. I'm gonna dig my Dreamcast out and replay one day.
>Do you remember what you were doing 20 years ago

The playstation 2 killed the dreamcast and Sega as a first party company. I always hated Sony for that.
>I always hated Sony for that.
you are not the only one
i have off today, should i just fap to sophitia's panties all day like i'm 14 and nobody's in the house but me and the dreamcast
Dreamcast and Sega killed themselves, retard. From the rabid internal fighting between JP and NA, to their shitty resource allocation to garbage games like Shenmue
Oh yeah because it was SoA's idea to make sometime to compete with the fucking atari jaguar and rush the saturn's launch
Are all of these weird fucking webms D2? Been a long time since I've seen that game.
>Sophitia
Absolutely based, Ivy was always the pleb bait, Sophitia was the hottest by far.
shut the fuck up retard, you got no idea what is going on in the market. Playstations marketing attracted idiot non gamers like you. Even housewifes and fathers started buying playstations who never were and never are into gaming. Playstations marketing sold it a an status symbol for the retarded identically to mobile trash. That way they attracted all the devs to their shit console and audience to so everyone could make an easy quick buck. So everyone dev left the dreamcast because back then consoles architecture was very specific. Making a game for multiple consoles back then was very difficult. Fucking idiot. The dreamcast has a fantastic library. Playstations shit marketing killed dreamcast (no mans sky, kill zone trailer -> playstation marketing is the worst)
The dreamcast was a great console. The only reason people did not buy it was because the hype for the ps2 in Japan and America was huge and would rather get a ps2 than a dreamcast when the ps2 came out in 2000.
What groundbreaking opinions by literal fucking nobodies lol
Stupid blind fanboy can't tell when a company is at fault for their own failings. Imagine thinking a TOP BRAND NAME crumbles to some newcomer.
Sega was absolutely retarded during the 90s.
I don't discuss with 12 year old boys
never really cared for ivy honestly, femdom latexsuits or anything resembling leotards were never my thing.
thank god the 2000s went away from all that and also that i was fortunate enoug to go to catholic schools for god tier blouse/blazer/skirt/tights heaven
It's time to take off those rose-tinted glasses, loser.

Daily reminder the Dreamcast (619) was only on the market for a couple of years before its untimely death and it still had almost as many games as the Gamecube (657) despite the Gamecube be around for over twice as long.
SEGA DOES WHAT NINTENDONT
THE WRONG FIRST PARTY LEFT
The Dreamcast may have lost the generation, but it won our hearts.
To their credit, they went down fighting.
>Virtua Tennis 2
>MvC2
>CvS2
>Chu Chu Rocket
>Crazy Taxi
I'm not even a tennis fan but the game is so good. Played along with three friends for years while drinking beer and smoking pot. Good times.
>buying Dreamcast games
Make sure you set up a game with some AI and continuously perform the move where she slams her crotch into the face of the opponent.
Unfortunately unless the dreamcast pulled out like 30 million units Sega was going to leave anyway. After the NA launch they were already talking about pulling out of the market and despite the DC doing so well. Turns out 10 years of mistakes and flubs isn't easy to survive, especially when you're already the smallest player in the industry and your one staple industry is beginning to decline. It's a shame and they deserved much better.
Sega made some of the best sports games ever.
Why do I keep forgetting all these fucking titles? Especially Crazy Taxi. And I never played Evolution, but I had a crush on Linear when my brother brought the issue this image appeared in.
>sonic adventure 1 & 2
>shenmue

damn, why can't consoles be this good nowadays?
>Dreamcast is a terrible console, with a TERRIBLE controller, with a small library of really good games.
>Was poorly managed with bad marketing and many conflicting ideologies between their Japanese and English branches.
>Is hailed as a classic
>WiiU is a terrible console, with a really shitty controller, with a small library of really good games.
>Was poorly managed with bad marketing and many conflicting ideologies between their Japanese and English branches.
>Is cited as one of the absolute worst consoles of all times.
Explain.
>>WiiU is a terrible console, with a really shitty controller, with a small library of really good games.
What a mistake. The Wii U library has one or two really good games, the Dreamcast has about 90. The rest of the Wii U's highly praised games are extremely safe, extremely mediocre, and extremely derivative.
>Dreamcast is a terrible console, with a TERRIBLE controller, with a small library of really good games.
when you are so fucking wrong even in your first point you failed hard. Dreamcast has the best controller. And the mini gameboy memory card display/sound is not just a gimmick and not overused at the same time (overused -> wii u).
The controller is perfect.
20 years ago my dad bought a p3 450mhz tnt le 16mb 256mb ram 20gb hdd DVD + av capture card and Sb live 5.1 se
Mainly played stuff in bleem ps1 games Ut99 and gta 1
Fuck owning a cuckonsole
>Dreamcast has the best controller.
Saturn does but DC is still very nice. Better than any Nintendo pad, that's for sure.
pathetic
Dreamcast was a breakthrough on multiple fronts
>first console with built in online play (SNES, Genesis and Saturn all required add ons)
>had revolutionary graphics for it's time, made the N64 look like it was 10 years old
>had the first mainline 3D Sonic game
Where as the Wii U:
>no new revolutionary features
>about equal to an Xbox 360 in terms of graphics
>launched with nothing of note
You had full teams on what are today's indie game budgets and a pretty low bar to jump. Also a smaller market of more dedicated players that would buy your weird nipshit. It was the wild west as far as what you could do and what would make money.
>Fat, bulky, ugly piece of shit controller with terrible button feel is one of the best controllers of all time.
The fuck.
It's so embarrassing when this board talks Sega especially as an old Genesis kid.
>the Dreamcast has about 90.
Good fucking joke.
>Saturn does but DC is still very nice.
I don't own a Saturn 3D pad. Is the dpad on it as good/the same as the regular controller? I might upgrade if that's the case
It does, and you need to cope. The Wii U was a massive disappointment.
The good half of the ps2 launch catalog were Dreamcast ports.
you must have some ugly hands man. The controllers feels perfect. And I love the l and r triggers. They are so close to pedals. The best analog l/r triggers in gaming. Don't get me started how bad the playstation analog l/r triggers were... holy shit... the complete opposite of dreamcasts...
Good. Fucking. Joke.
>Is the dpad on it as good/the same as the regular controller
a little different but the exact same design underneath, just the shape is changed and the orientation of course. The 3D pad is phenomenal and has great handles, a nice shape that sits well in your hands and the analog triggers make it phenomenal for games like power slave.
>Sonic Adventure 2
>Grandia 2 (literally better than Skies of Arcadia)
>SoulCalibur
>Sega Rally 2
>Basically everything else mentioned itt
Has any console had a higher percentage of 9/10 and higher games? It seems like if you just randomly pick a DC game, odds are it was great.
Yes you are mate
Ps1 dc and n64 where all mostly garbage.
Only decent consoles back then where the am2 arcade boards and cabinets and pc
Wowo 240interlaced with 1-20fps or pc with 640p+ and 30fps hmm yeah I'll stick with pc even back then
You need to cope. The Wii U is so bad and Nintendo fans are too dumb to realize why nobody was buying their gamecube tier shit yet again.
The dream never dies!
>WiiU is a terrible console, with a really shitty controller, with a small library of really good games.
Dreamcast has plenty of epic games. Wtf are you talking about?
not to me, it's a great emulation machine.
i've mostly used kilik's throws, the way they made anyone with a skirt just look so helpless drove my libido into overdrive. then i'd just set the replay function and fap away.
pathetic and retarded with no technical understanding (typical PC gamer, knows nothing about tech)
delet
No it doesn't. Dreamcast has a really small handful of actually good games.
exactly the same, I bought Sonic and Soul Calibur amd later bought Air Force Delta
I was a sonyer till I bought the Dreamcast then I stopped my evil ways and enjoyed vydia on all platforms.
PS2 had more outliers, but also 10x the trash.
Well that's good to hear
On second thought I might just have to get it alongside my current controller though because I'd rather not give up my transparent pad
>really small handful
Dozens, which is better than most consoles can boast.
Twenty years ago I was buying a Dreamcast from Toys R Us with Soul Calibur and Power Stone. It's hooked up in my attic and I still play it sometimes. Dreamcast had all the best Fighting games.
One of the coolest fighting games I've ever played, ever.
Oh yes your superior ps1 n64 garbage or the console that sold so poorly (despite having decent specs) it got ripped off the market
Yeah nah it was a shit gen for shovelware as well only half decent games where still 2d everything ran and looked like ass on consoles especially 3d
It's not even good for emulation, that's the funny part. The Wii U's video encoder produces awful results. Emulation is always inferior, by the way.
>Ps1 dc and n64 where all mostly garbage.
ps1 games were a lot of experimental shit. I personally don't like most ps1 games. It's really hard to find a good ps1 game that I would still play today, like for example star gladiator, tenchu or steet fighter ex. Most games on ps1 have aged awfully because they are either generic, badly experimental or just bad (ridge racer comes to mind).
N64s problem is the huge library of 3d games. The 3d games on n64 are good gameplay and audio-wise but awful graphicswise. That sadly makes them really hard to replay nowadays. If n64 had more 2d games the console would have aged so much better.
>I'd rather not give up my transparent pad
Definitely don't. I still use the stock pad for all kinds of 2D games.
>he's still trying to cope with his emulashun scraps
pathetic
SNES and Playstation beg to differ.
>snoy is snoy fault!1!
Puta que pariu cale a porra da boca, americano retardado do caralho!
I remember n64 games looking better tho it had actually proper perspective correction 3d and aa
The textures and sound compression is what made it look worse
Never played dc but it looks OK on emus
>T-t-t-the dreamcast was absolutely amazing and fantastic!
>That's why it failed phenomenally and made Sega quit the Console business.
Lol?
Power Stone (2)
House of the Dead (2)
Marvel VS Capcom (2)
Capcom VS SNK (2)
Sonic Adventure (2)
Chu Chu Rocket
Resident Evil: Code Veronica
REZ
Mars Matrix
Jet Grind Radio
Crazy Taxi
Toy Commander
Soul Calibur
Skies of Arcadia
Street Fighter 3
I'm sure there were some good racing and sports games on it too but I never played those.
Honestly the DC was the best console ever for arcade fanatics and it had a number of solid entries in just about every genre other than RPG.
I've only ever emulated one. I keep looking out for them but I'm not determined enough to just buy one online. Can't really think what I'd play on it anyway except some fighting games.
That's a lot of non-exclusives you got there, buddy.
I was running most ps1 stuff at hi res 60fps mate sorry u had an inferior experience
They say the ps2 killed it but that's horse shit.
The ps1 was just too strong despite being a aweful pile of shit Sony strung together to piss off Nintendo who they where in partnership with at the time while Nintendo fired back with the I'll fated n64cd
i dont know why i thought this thread would be free of angry zoomers
but ill stick around to laugh at them
Video quality on retroarch and other emulators seems fine via component on a crt. I don't play VC titles just MAME, Neo Geo and other retro stuff. Thanks for the info.
N64 games have aged like milk visually. They mostly run at 20fps and below and textures that low resolution do not look good when filtered. The texture warping on PS1 is always an overstated issue, but nobody seems to mention how poorly N64 games run, how blurry they look, and how compressed the music is.
>Zoomers
Mate, I'm older than you are. You were probably 5 years old when you got your dreamcast, and that's why you think all those garbage games were good.
The dreamcast also had tons of arcade perfect ports of many games like the king of fighters titles.
Xbox 01 and pc had better arcade ports and more games if u count emulation tho even back then.
I'm a 29 year old virgin tho.
I harbor no ill will towards Sega or dc but holy hell are their fans here autistic
>Worse than the fucking Wii N64 VC
How is this even possible jesus christ
It's a problem with the video output, not the emulation.
The fuck is this tumblr shit?
Your point being? Ignoring the fact that most of those 'non-exclusives' were arcade cabinets didn't release on anything other than the DC until years later; the point I replied to was listing good games on the Wii U vs good games on the Dreamcast. Exclusivity never factored into the conversation.
N64 was literally a failed Sony partnership spinoff rushed to production and prototypes showed how it was meant to get a cartridge and CD drive not just cartridge
That's why it fucked Nintendo over
A shame because with the expansion pack it was a great console I never owned one just played randoms ones
based mariposa poster

>wuts this tumblr shit m8
fuck off reddt
>Final Fight > Bare Knuckle
lol people actually think this?
>Look at all these games I had the option of playing on other consoles.
Shit console with a small handful of actually good games.
It didn't fail because it was bad. It failed because Sega:
1. Ran out of money due to blowing a shit ton of it on stuff in the past (often stupid shit like themeparks)
2. Had lost consumer trust after the Saturn/32X fiasco
it had project gotham racing 2 and thre was another one whose name I cant seem to remember
it had the whole nba, nfl 2k, etc series which was the first time I actually bought a sports title
it had Grandia 2 and skies of arcadia for rpgs. grandia 2 which would later be ported to ps2 but the port sucked compared to the DC version.
for dungeon crawlers there were the evolution titles, 3 if them I believe.
for air combat, it had Air Force Delta which wiped the floor with the PS1 air/ace combat games back then.
>celebrating a console that was so bad it was dead within 2 years
oof
pgr was xbox
The Wii U really was that bad of a console.
The N64 was a project between SGI-Nintendo, the Playstation was a failed Sony partnership spinoff. Or well, a successful spinoff. The problem was Nintendo needed it to be cheap, the problem was SGI had no wiggle room, the problem was the hardware while capable of doing texture filtering, texture perspective correction, it wasn't good at doing it and Nintendo required it. The problem was Nintendo kept a ton of developers out of the way while Sony and even Sega were letting everyone know how to get the most out of their system (Sega less so for a dozen different reasons, but they still tried.)
Cartridges were just the icing on the fail cake that was the N64. Now today it's a console fondly remembered for the same 12 games everybody played and nothing else.
>Better arcade ports
No. You literally cannot have a better than arcade perfect port and that is what most of the DC games were.
OG Xbox is what people claim the Dreamcast was. General trash with a handful of very few legitimately excellent games. Not to mention the fact that 'even back then' the Xbox wasn't out.
I unironically thought Sonic Adventure was amazing when I was a kid, sad that history has not been kind to it.
Except for the fishing shit, even as a kid I knew that was bullshit.
B-B-BUT IT HAD SO MANY MULTIPLATS DUDE.
where my tokyo extreme racer boiz at
shit was nightcore as fuck
Show me how many of the games on that list could be played on another console in 2002.
sorry, it was metropolis street racing.
Phantasy Star Online gave birth to the MH series. Enough people don't give PSO credit.
All the arcade shit you posted?
I know that it had good RPGs, but the selection was significantly lower than its fighting/action/shmup games, that's why I said 'number of solid entries'.
I forgot Shenmue too.
Be specific faggot. As it stands you're objectively wrong.
I love sega too but stop being a retard
No, you're just retarded.
I really liked my genesis desu. Had some sick arcade ports. Also Streets of Rage was really nice, coming from someone who also played the shit of final fight.
Sega consoles were the consoles owned by little kids whose parents didn't love them enough to get them better consoles.
The Genesis is still incredible and people don't know enough about its library thanks to nincels spreading disinfo.
The Dreamcast 2 exists, bro. it's called the Xbox. the Duke controller was basically a modified Dreamcast controller.
Posting images like this makes you look like an even bigger retard, not less of one.
I remember being interested in the "9/9/99" alliteration in schoolwork that day, like typing classes in the computer lab led by that Indian woman.
I really thought I'd be more successful 20 years later instead of a NEET who still lived at home, but hey, maybe it's just fate.
That's not going to make Tyrone happy.
>he doesn't know
because it was only alive for like 2 years, most cosoles dont start getting tons of games until their 3rd year
Square was still solidly in bed with Sony back then
if anything the Dreamcast was almost a Sega/Capcom console has those companies are the ones who kept releaseing games on it nonstop. new games and tons of ports as well.
The Sega Chihiro arcade board is literally an Xbox with more memory. It even came shipped with Xbox's software debug kit.
Whats the diff of powerstone and powerstone 2
Really?
Excellent rebuttal there faggot. Since you're evidently incapable of doing even the barest amount of research, I'll get you started:
Power Stone
Power Stone 2
Soul Calibur
House of the Dead 2
were all unavailable on a conole for years after the DC release. That's not even all of them either. If basic fucking searches are too hard for you, maybe you shouldn't spout objectively incorrect bullshit.
This game scared me as a kid
So you had brand loyalty for one console generation? What?
You're putting unnecessary time restraints, because you know those games became easily available elsewhere within a short time frame. I don't argue with retards like you.
Powerstone is a 3D fighter
Powerstone 2 is a party game
The first focuses a lot more on individual movesets and is a one on one fight in a stationary stage. The item variety is comparatively small.
Powerstone 2 is a four person free for all with stages that have way more hazards and dynamically transition to different arenas, usually with an almost mini-game like interlude or platforming segment. Movesets are more homogenized and individual characters can do less. The item variety is HUGE and fusing/collecting new items is a key part of the gameplay. Powerstone 2 is the best Smash-style game of all time.
Sega fans spread to the winds after the DC died.
Reminder: Elemental Gimmick Gear is still a dreamcast exclusive and will never ever be ported.
Its a really good game and the egg racing mini-game is fun as fuck.
You may carry on now
Did Silver ever get ported?
yes, I grew up with Nintendo (didnt even know Sega existed) then got a PS1 cause there was no Nintendo alternative at the time, there I became a sonyer and hated the N64 just cause I didnt have one, until the Sega Dreamcast released and I bought it cause it was cheap saw the light of how different console had their own games or style of games and then went full idort
I got cured of my fanboys ways after I bought a DC and started appreciating games even on rival systems and learned what a fanboy was (which was me in the past)
It was released on OS X too according to wikipedia.
I never tried it, is it an action rpg?
>that custom item book that took up 80% of your memory card
Monster Hunter 1 devs said in a interview a long time ago that they were inspired by PSO on Dreamcast. The idea of hunting monsters in local co-op and online co-op in not a Diablo style camera view on consoles was still a fresh idea back then.
Got any more goalposts you want to move? I asked you a question, you answered incorrectly and now you're trying to pretend that you aren't retarded. Also, calling three years a 'short time frame'.
'Easily available' is also pretty fucking questionable since CVS and MVC games are notoriously difficult to find. The ports are also objectively worse (CVS2:EO being the most blatant example) and, again, came out 3-8 years later.
>I don't argue with retards like you
You don't argue period. You spout bullshit and then fail to back it up.
I only played the demo and never got around to burning the full game but yeah, ARPG with an annoyingly zoomed out top down perspective over FMV backgrounds. Looked really nice, don't remember anything else about it.

FFVIII came out the same day so high school me didn't have enough cash to buy a DC with Soul Calibur and FFVIII so I bought FFVIII and got the DC like a month and half later.
>Incel sees a naked woman in real life
how could I forget about v-rally 2, my friends and I usually competed to try and beat our best times
Oh that's sad you think a neutered version of Final Fight is the best
Shut up, retard. You're a blind fanboy and nothing more.
I bought mine at Toys R Us too. I think there's something about the Dreamcast aesthetic that went really well with TRU those days. They also let me take home a giant cardboard stand of Sonic. I think the only game I got with mine was NBA 2K and no I'm not a black person lel.
Modchip my friend.
What are you retards fighting about
I too notice that there's a high correlation with having a Genesis as a kid and having divorced parents or being on the low end of the middle-class. I guess it has to do with being edgy and having all that attitude and shit which appeals to kids dealing with rough times.
Dreamcast retards who think their shit console was ever good.
>Phantasy Star Online is one of the most revolutionary games of the 2000s, crediting it for creating "an entire pantheon of multiplayer dungeon crawlers that continue to dominate the Japanese sales charts" and making "both online gaming and the concept of fee-based services a reality for consoles". Hiroshi Matsuyama, president of CyberConnect2 and developer of the .hack series, cited the game as an influence. It is also believed to be a major influence on Capcom's Monster Hunter series. Monster Hunter had a similar formula to Phantasy Star Online and became successful.
It is infinitely better than anything Nintendo put out since the mid 90s
I definitely love Monster Hunter for many of the same reasons I loved PSO. I wish it was more like PSO in fact, like with big online lobbies and more chat options, trading, and dungeons.
Wish my phone wasn't dead. I just grabbed a lightgun for my Dreamcast and I've been playing House of the Dead 2 with it, I would have wanted to show you guys, it's in really great condition.

D2 is something else. It has an atmosphere unlike any game. It all falls apart at the end and settles on vague notions of "racism is bad don't pollute t. Gaia" complete with a college art project clipshow but the journey is clearly the product of a singular committed a(u/r)tistic vision.
youtube.com
It didn't review well back in the day. "Too many cutscenes". "No depth." "Lack of direction." "Too short." (despite being 4 discs its pretty much a 10 hour game).
This is all true of course but I don't know how you can strap yourself into this rollercoaster and come out with with "2 stars out of 5 avoid". I'd honestly argue its a must play.
You wish, retard.
You need to cope as fast as you can. At 20fps.
Actually the same, and then convinced my cousin that being the lead of the meat train was a good thing.
>The only kids who got Mega Drive had divorced parents or parents who didn't love them enough
The kids who got a Nintendo were always the losers who got constantly bullied
Seething Segadrone. Your shit console died in 2 years and killed any chance of them continuing their console development.
Also, the Xbox got almost all of the Sega Dreamcast exclusive games at the time like Shenmue 1 and 2 as well as Sonic and Skies of Arcadia.
in a way monster hunter did copy some of pso's stuff later on. like the gathering hall where everyone online meets together is based on the lobby from pso, the pre generated text is from pso's auto translate system, the stickers are a less sophisticated form of pso's symbol chat, etc.
only thing really missing are the dungeons and being able to trade any item in the game.
I like them both and you're still underrating their libraries
It's pretty much whoever had them and enjoyed them are the only ones who know how special they are. If you're just looking at the Metacritic Top 10 then sure they seemingly underperform, but if you deep dive into everything they have to offer it's hard not to be satisfied.
skies wasn't on xbox, it got a gamecube port.
You don't have to tell me. I own both a Wii U and the dreamcast, and I like them both. I just think it's retarded how similar of failings they share, and one is regarded as a classic.
you guys can still play the Dreamcast online with games like Quake 3 when combine with tunnelling software over the internet.
A Dreamcast was actually my first console and it still works well. I think I'll hook it up today and give Soul Reaver a go for the first time.
>Emulation is always inferior, by the way.
Awful attitude to have.
The Wii U has a built-in Wii by the way, so you can do everything in the Wii OS
Make sure to clean out the power supply plug. Some Dreamcasts out there suffer from a reset problem due to dirty/dusty connectors.
Same with any console that supports system link. You can still find online matches for Halo 2 on Xbox or Socom on PS2.
It's that time boys.
Is Code Vein going to have online co-op?
The demo gave me pretty big PSO vibes.
>12 minutes
No thanks.
Not too surprising, Sega sank with the Dreamcast meanwhile Nintendo themselves scorned Wii U owners and we both know Nintendo "fans" adopt whatever attitude their beloved company assumes.
Saturn was chep. Most stuff is really expensive now.
>dreamcast supported windows CE
the xbox = DC2 memes are real
The fuck is a dreamcast?
is this the ultimate zoomer post?
20 years ago i was a dumb toddler. dreamcast is pretty rad, though. picked one up early this year along with a cd burner and been havin' a lot of fun.
It's more like Dark Souls than PSO. I'm not sure if it will have online co-op though, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does.
>tfw no sticky
People describe it like that and it might have been its inspiration, but I never felt that way at all. The separate dungeons you do with a party as opposed to one sprawling world you travel alone definitely reminded me of PSO.
this is nintendogaf what did you expect
Now that you mention it, I do see some similarities.
>still no Skies of Arcadia HD port with the high quality Dreamcast audio+Gamecube exclusive content
>tfw my Dreamcast is still at my parents and I have no idea where all four (4) of my controllers went
I never owned one as a kid, but I remember seeing them in stores and thinking they were so cool. My friend owned one and I remember playing Sonic Adventure and being blown away by the graphics.
Then a year later I saw Melee on the GameCube and the Dreamcast looked like shit
Anyone else notice every kid who had a Dreamcast ended up gay?
Dead or Alive 2 still looks really damn good on Dreamcast. Matched the visuals of Soul Calibur 2 on Xbox.
gay but successful at life. can't say the same about n64 owners.
The only halfway successful one I know has a boyfriend that looks exactly like me.
if living at home with your mom at age 36 aint success, I dont want to succeed
I fucking love the Dreamcast. Late 90's very early 2000's Japanese media just has a certain feeling to it that nothing else does.
Almost all the games in the library have such a cool, colourful, almost hopeful aesthetic. Then 9/11 and the PS2 happened.
SA1, SA2, Jet Grind Radio and Crazy Taxi are all I have at the moment and I love them all.
It's funny how as a kid I thought the future would be better. The same game design but with better technology. But now the game design is much worse and devs are using shortcuts with technology instead of pushing to the limits.
Nobody mentions MDK2. That game was fucking great. Made by Bioware back before they got acquired by EA and hired SJWs.
It will be, the tech just isn't there yet. I see a return to A and AA budgets from small studios before 2025 as soon as the market shifts a bit. Cooperatives from professionals are going to overtake indie.
zoom zoom zoom
How much would a Dreamcast cost today?
250.
It's because it wasn't as creative as MDK 1 was. MDK1 doesn't get much credit nowadays for how influential it was.
>live next to Lindfield
>was freaked out when it tells you its destroyed.
converted for inflation, it would be $300 today.
It was still just as fun. It got stellar reviews back in the day too. At least the Dreamcast version did, the PS2 version was a downgrade.
why do zoomers hate this console?
All Sega consoles sucked
My daddy told us no to be ashamed of our dicks.

Never had a Dreamcast until ~a year ago when I decided to buy one off eBay, and it’s quick become one of my favourite consoles. Arcade perfect Ports of all my favourite fighting games, the best versions of RE2 and 3 (RE being one of my favourite franchises), the simple aesthetic of the console is great and clean and games look absolutely stunning with the VGA output. I’m also a sucker for fishing games and sega bass fishing with the fishing rod controller is comfy as fuuuuck
Glad you got to experience what I did when I was 12 with the same enthusiasm and some added piracy I didn't get to get into until years after. Did you play super magnetic neo? Might be one of my favorites alongside Radilgy and Cool Cool Toon.
Fuck, I didn't realize how formative the Dreamcast was to me alongside some Zelda game.
>Especially being such good size and all.
You can't say this and not post pics user.
Mmm dem were da days
Happy 9/9/19. Sorry its shit
>Sonic Adventure
>Sonic Adventure 2
>Jet Set Studio
>Crazy Taxi
>Soulcalibur
My only experience with super magnet neo is [spoilers]from oneyplays[/spoiler] but it does look fun, expensive though and im a sucker for physical collections. I’m mainly into my fighting games so I’ve enjoyed a lot of MvC1/2, alpha 3, rival schools project justice etc and jet set radio through VGA looks just as good as the HD remaster, I love it. I’m not big into racing games either but daytona USA is so much fun, I love all the arcade style and feel of the games on Dreamcast, they have so much, for lack of a better word, soul.
My bad, meant to say
>Jet Set Radio
Still have my Dreamcast working in my room to this day. Don’t play it that often tho
It's ok user
Burn yourself some discs and have real fun with the euro and JPN games. Physical is overrated for once.
I remember playing Card Fighters Clash and SNK vs. Capcom on my NeoGeo Pocket Color which also hooked up to my Dreamcast and King of Fighters '98 which was pretty neat.
One protip though, get yourself some good quality CD-R's like from Sony or Memorex. Low quality shit brand CD-R's will often fail to read on Dreamcast or damage the drive overtime because it abuses the laser assembly by trying extra hard to read the contents (not to mention the drive sounds louder than normal).
Also make sure to burn your games at the slowest speed possible, ideally 2-4x speed.
Why did it fail?
It didn't. We did.
Sega couldn't financially keep it going. They dug themselves into a grave with their past mistakes in home consoles and arcades.
>louder than normal
It's already loud but all mine are from a Memorex stack. I used to warm my feet sitting on the floor playing that fucker.
PS2 was a DVD player which was a big selling point.
>non gamers
Agree but the Dreamcast was a non gamer console too. Had lots of sports games, and Shenmue was like SEGA's Death Stranding, an easy to grab story focused game. Same with Jet Set Radio and casual racing games. It wasn't a core gamer console like the Saturn.
i wasnt even born yet but i love the dreamcast. underrated console
That and they decided they just couldn't compete with Sony and Nintendo and bowed out gracefully, unlike Microsoft.
Most of the games were unavailable when I got mine, got it with Blue Stinger and Berserk, SC didn't came out on 9/9/99 IIRC.
It launched with Sonic and pretty much fuckelse. I'm sure some user will debate and say otherwise or extend the window, but it had Sonic Adventure and dick.
Yeah, I see that, daddy gave you good advice
That's not all he taught me.
He showed me how not to rip the skin by using someone else's mouth.
>non gamer

Microsoft wanted to buy Sega, they were testing the waters
>literal faggots

I also got PSO the day it came out, I was one of the few players that had a keyboard.
They probably almost got away with it if Sega didn't get bailed out.
Would this have been better or worse for them?
Soul Calibur you faggot.
with microsoft money they wouldn't have had to fold pretty much no matter how shitty it went
Probably better in the longrun since they would have more money to play around with new IPs and old IPs. Phantasy Star Online could have been the next Monster Hunter if Sega gave it proper money and attention.
It had around 21 games at launch which is pretty impressive back then.
Sonic Adventure, Blue Stinger, Ready 2 Rumble, Soul Calibur, Power Stone, and House of the Dead 2 were all great games to get on launch.
>IT WAS TWENTY (20) YEARS AGO TODAY
Reminder the Dreamcast came out in 98.
Well Microsoft's mascot would be Sonic instead of Master Chief.
>Toys R Us
user...I wanted to forget
That game was my shit, parents got us (little bro and I) the light guns for it too, could'nt get us off it if you tried.
Dad brought that shit home one day, our lives changed and almost made us forget about the N64.
Sonic/Sonic 2, SC, Powerstone, HOTD2, Phantasy Star, Jet Set, too many to keep going. But this post made me happy to see and honestly made me appreciate the fact that I was old enough at the time to be around this tech and enjoy it.
Felt like a pre-req for Xbox almost as well, had a PS2 but it didn't take a lot of time for it to be shadowed by the black monstrosity as we know it today.
RIP Dreamcast, you brought some great days in my life when it was needed.

Being able to raise your Chao on the VMU and transferring back onto the console game was fucking mindblowing to me as a kid. It's a shame that the VMU used watch batteries, those were expensive.
>20 years
Fuck, this, shit.
The last time I tried to pick my Dreamcasts, one of them wasnt reading discs and the other was rebooting. Need to fix them
>buy a Sega magazine showing off Dreamcast
>that Shenmue
>SA1, Soulcalibur, Power Stone, Sega Rally 2 and VF3 on release
Oh yes I did. It was a great x-mas
IllBleed as well
You can fix the rebooting problem by cleaning the power supply connectors inside the console. All you need is a screwdriver, some rubbing alcohol, and clean piece of cloth.
Also forgot about Shenmue, I was so mad when I got to the end and found out there was a part 2.
Still haven't played the sequel, almost could care less and idk why...
I really like this game and wish something like it (if not an outright sequel somehow) would be made for modern consoles and PC. There's that one Gravity Breakers game with similar 360 degree movement but it doesn't quite tick the same boxes, and it's probably dead now.
>almost could care less
you almost could *not* care less. please learn english.
The VMU and Pocketstation were way too underused. Imagine what we would have today if this concept took off.
We'd have a wii u, you moron
See those buildings? You can explore every tower and every room.
Shenmue 2 is amazing, go play it.
I was sucking on my mommas titty
Why not both?
>Imagine being born after 1990 and even commenting on Dreamcast
Soulcalibur, Shenmue 1 and 2,SA1 and 2, Skies of Arcadia, Jet Set Radio, Virtua Tennis 2k2, Power Stone 1 and 2(1 was much funner fighter), Crazy Taxi, Metropolis Street Racer, DoA 2, Marvel vs Capcom 2, PSO, Sega Extreme Sports
The ones I wasted more hours were definitely both SA, Soulcalibur,PSO, DoA2, MvsC2 and Shenmue 2
Underage.
Nobody played Rayman 2? I only played the PC version which was a port of the cut down n64 version.
Blue Stinger is the most underrated launch title if not game ever made. I dont know how it doesnt have a strong cult following like other shitty games.
Thanks, I will try that tomorrow.
Alien front online. The first game that came with a mic but you could only communicate in quick comments. I bought ever online dreamcast game sometimes being the first few people online. Still remember waiting for propellar arena and then 9-11 happened. Never got to play tho I know it was later released or leaked
Nah I'm talking about interactive memory storage devices not shitty console/portable hybrids.
>Shenmue 1 was supposed to be 1 and 2
>Sega said "no"
>finish 1
>it was a fucking prologue
>have to wait another year to start the fucking journey
>finish 2 and ends in a cliffhanger
>wait almost 20 years just to get bit of the story
Thanks Sega
Sonic would be more appealing to the masses. Plus it would complete the autism duo of having Sonic+Minecraft many years later.
I’m worried about Shenmue 3.
2 added density so the wait was worth it.
But 3, what new thing does Shenmue 3 have to offer?
I played the demo on Dreamcast.
Fucking Guilin that was already in works in 2001 and some shit was left in disc4.
If Sega wasnt retarded 1+2 would have been released in 2000 and 3 by 2001.
Suzuki was already done with the story and had the engine, assets and soundtrack. He only needed time to keep releasing a game each year and by 4 or 5 he would be done with the series, probably around 2003 or 2004.

i love telling this story
so in the early 90s sega wanted to enter the home console market in america and europe so they hired some paddy named tom kalinske. tom kalinske was previously a bigwig at hasbro and made them lots of money. so anyway they bring in tom and he starts making some pretty big changes. he gives the genesis a price-cut to give it a boost in sales and also bundle it with sonic 2. this made sega of america a lot of money. unfortunately kalinske's balls to the wall business strategies did not go over well with sega of japan. kalinske was eventually replaced around '93 or '94 due to constant headbutting over the fact that sega of america was turning out more of a profit than sega of japan. the point of no return for sega was when the 32x came out. the guy they replaced him with was incredibly petty and straight up refused games be localized in america. so the cause of death for sega as a first party console dev was due to infighting
For the love of god, it's Soulcalibur, not ber
>Saturn is probably the cheapest console though, Sakura Wars for $5, Panzer Dragoon for $2, Virtua Fighter for $1?!?
Where the fuck are you finding those games for those prices?
I miss these niggas like you wouldn't believe.
Seems like they died with Gen 7. They only develop Hatsune Miku games now.
It's funny to think that PSO on Dreamcast and Gamecube opened up the possibility of dumping games and loading homebrew through the same proxy server exploit.
What is that image from? Some hacking shit during the DC days? Was that how people had mags as sega consoles?
how much are they worth?
I still have mine, needs a serious clean though.
Wartech/Senko no rondo was always pitched as a sort of spiritual successor but in reality it was more shooter than fighter. It didn't help that it has cancerously shit art design and bullet hell bullshit
what game?
Just a theme for a popular at the time homebrew program called Dream Explorer.
But back in the day, PSO had a exploit on both Gamecube and Dreamcast where you can trick the game into loading homebrew using a proxy server. This could be used to dump GC/DC discs to a PC via ethernet since at the time no PC disc copier could dump those GC/DC discs directly. Naturally since you could load homebrew, you could also edit your save file to hack in items or freeze other peoples games on purpose.

You forgot some of the big hitters
Dude wanted like 7 games. I doubt he would've finished it by 2004.
Hell, in the perfect world where he got his way and all games where Shenmue 1 tier of complete, we probably would've seen Shenmue 7 sometime this decade. Shenmue 2 was meant to take place on the boat, the entire game was just going to be you on that boat for around a month or however long it takes to get to China from Japan. Shenmue 3 was going to be the first part of Shenmue 2 and Shenmue 4 was meant to be the latter (possibly with the Guilin we're getting in Shenmue 3 to actually being part of it)
Instead Shenmue 1 was the complete one, Shenmue 2 skips the boat chapter and crams chapters 3-7 in there from his 16 chapter story. Kind of a shame we never got to see the whole Shenmue experience, it would've been cool to make the player try and find as much as possible in one game so he could carry it over to the next. If there was some move you could only learn in Shenmue 3 it would carry on with you throughout the series and if you didn't get it, well you lost the chance to, along with actually growing throughout your journey. If you were using some weak basic move in Shenmue 1 but kept on using it, it could easily be your best move by the Shenmue 6 or so because you mastered the move as time went on.
I see.
>freeze them
And nuke or some shit, which would make your character fat and illegal to the game.
Because of those little shits for some couple of months it was hard to find rooms, since everything was private through guilds.
>tfw when Power Stone 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 2 were supposed to have online modes but it was scrapped because DC would be killed in months
Ah yes the NOL trick, that used to happen on the Dreamcast version. That was actually done with Gameshark rather than that other exploit. They fixed it in the Gamecube version, but the Gamecube version had another problem where you can freeze anyones console by equipping a corrupted weapon. If you happened to freeze their game as it was autosaving, you could corrupt their save file or their entire memory card.
speed devils
Nigga I had to stop myself with just 4 titles before I ended up naming 20 more. But fuck it, I'm going all in:

>Project Justice
>Plasma Sword
>Cannon Spike
>Gunbird 2
>Power Stone
>Power Stone 2
>Code Veronica
>Dino Crisis
>Giga Wing
>Giga Wing 2
>Mars Matrix
Like shit mang, how the hell was Capcom so fucking Elder God tier in those days?
It's more complicated than that.
The boat was a chapter, chapter 2, not a game, but it was scrapped early since the trailers for Shenmue were all about 1 and 2(same as that Saturn trailer released much later)
The chapters in the end were mixed, Yu says shit like "pieces of chapter 5 or 6 were in Shenmue 2, but chapter 6 is still 3". Some parts were left off, like that train ride that is shown in Project Berkley that was supposed to be the ride to Kowloon. Shit is confusing
What we can assume at Dreamcast era is that 1+2 was supposed to be Shenmue 1 originally and 2 could have been Guillin and 3 and 4 could have been enough to finish the story.Maybe 5, but never 7
>NOL
That was it. I remember people being mad at that
>corrupt all memory card
That is insane. I never played the GC version, but damn.
Yeah, they really fucked up with the Gamecube version. They later released a "Plus" edition that fixed the proxy exploit and got rid of the autosaving while online to help stop the corruption issue.
But what it didn't fix is that people already put in hacked items in the trading economy and people could transfer their save from the original to the Plus edition. So you can still play with hacked items that one shot people in Batlte mode or freeze other peoples. This is what most likely made Sega make Blue Burst for PC which made character data server side instead of storing it on a memory card so people can't hack the game to troll as easily.
Just a interesting history lesson I liked to share.
This
Nintendo and Sony shown themselfs many times that they are the villains all along and we are right about it.
Fuck their nostalgia, fuck their quote.
>he didn't have a custom dashboard
Uzume is literally Dreamcast
Why hasn't Sega released a Dreamcast Mini to celebrate?
troo far
Because minis are low effort cashgrabs aimed at stupid casuals who would pay 60 bucks for a glorified emulator.
Future of Sega looks kinda boring.
first games were DOA2, Jet Grind Radio, and Shenmue
my parents spoiled me one Christmas by getting me the console and those 3 games, I still remember watching my dad have trouble hooking up the VGA behind the TV then me finally getting to play
I think I played DOA all morning, and I remember how when the fingers were animated / modeled separately and I couldn't believe what I was seeing
also panties and bouncing titties
I was probably 9 or 10 IDR
Ah yes, faggots who complain shit over a console and a conpany like they don't have better to do with their patheric lives.
You know i always love Sega over their cool shit like Megadrive, Games, hell they even made a personification on their console, yes Sega Hard Girls.
What happend to them?
>Saturn and their nationlism ruined them
>After Dreamcast they became 3th party
The Dreamcast was kino, has interesting game libraries, neat design and neat controls.
But the flaw is the marketing.
Oh and the ps2?
Enchanced graphics, marketing, game libraries.
The flaw? Its a box.
A fucking box, nothing else.
And the controls are the same shit as its ancestors.
My opinion, do you feel triggered?
Welcome to the internet.
The only games I remember playing are unreal tournament 1999, sonic, crazy taxi and Shenmue.
Since forever you stupid fucktard. Why are morons like you shocked about this?
It pisses me off eternally that a Fate GO mobile clone was all Sega could come up with for the 30th year anniversary of Phantasy Star.
Should have made a new single player JRPG or make a PSO Classic server. But no, gotta chase after the zoomer gacha bucks. Fuck Sega and Fuck Sonic Team.
I was a poor kid at a crappy student job who had just gotten my first personal ADSL internet connection and used it to play Ultima Online and wouldn't really hear about Dreamcast until years later because only one store in my whole country sold it here.
Now I have a Dreamcast and a bunch of great games and had a blast playing them today.
>tfw all Dreamcasts will eventually stop working because of the gd rom drive
There's always that SD card mod but it doesn't have perfect comparability with all games.
Notice the NA part of the post. NA stands for North America.
sonic adventure 2 was the shit. At the time when it gave me the feeling that Spiderman 2 gave when you web swinged so fast that the game couldn't load.
Fun thing that I discovered later is that you can use the fishing rod controller to play Virtua Tennis like a Wii Mote
Optical drive failure is a threat to every console, though. Dreamcast might actually have the best ode out there, along with cheap Chinese versions of it.
Im not worried about my dreamcast at all.
Jojo Bizarre Adventure was my first Jojo experience, I had no clue who the characters were but the gameplay was so good. Tech Romancer was the shit.

Still no tweet about Sonic Adventure's 20th Anniversary. Embarrassing SEGA.
Despite the many criticisms Microsoft has gotten over the years, they would have been a lot better owners than Sammy Holdings, and SEGA would have probably held on to the 2K sports franchises, meaning Microsoft would've been a hell of a lot more competitive in the console market with an exclusive catalog the size of Nintendo's with the quality to match.
>Honestly the DC was the best console ever for arcade fanatics

I first learned about it picking up pre-ordered copy of Pokemon Snap from Toys R Us in summer of '99. Saw Sonic Adventure at a demo booth and flipped my shit (grew up with a Genesis and GameGear, but got a Gameboy and N64 in the mid 90s because they had cool shit like Wario Land and Mario 64). Later that year, older brother and I spent hours at a Best Buy reading the strategy guide for Sonic Adventure while our mom was looking for some office shit. We got one for Christmas that year, just for SA, and didn't plan on getting any more games. Sadly, our mom ripped the controllers out of the system to "shut it off" because we wouldn't stop playing and it began to ruin that disc from running. We played the demo, which encouraged us to get Power Stone. Using a screenless third-party memory card in conjunction with that game helped more-minorly to begin ruin it, too (very fragile system, I guess). All in all, only got 7 games for it (we were still playing N64 at the time, and allowances were tight), but still have and love it.
Phantasy Star >= FF 1-6
Apparently the SoA execs were mostly opposed to the 32X and were the ones that talked down the SoJ execs from having it be a new console and instead be the add-on we ended up getting.
I honestly think that jumping the gun with the 32X is one of the major causes of Sega's downfall. This wasn't just some failed add-on, it bloated their product line and ended up hurting the Saturn a lot at launch.
And what was the upcoming console that SoJ was so worried about that they just could not bear to wait another year for the Saturn to be finished? THE FUCKING JAGUAR
I got my first handjob when I was 14

What exactly is wrong with the PC port? That hard mode is practically a necessity if you ask me.
Original user you replied to, I fucking love Monster Hunter and I'm mad I never gave Phantasy Star Online a chance when I did. SEGA had the talent but not the management. Treasure pointed this out in a secret boss in Dynamite Headdy. Even they knew SoJ was self-destructive.

PSO was really great for its time but it kind of aged bad with time due to limitations of hardware and Sega's spaghetti code. It would really benefit from a HD remake it that was ever possible, but Sega already has PSO2 and a mobile game which is worse than PSO on Dreamcast so it shows how incompetent they really are.
Still have mine full working.
Feels super good man.
Hydro Thunder had the best port on Dreamcast. Wish there were more games like that.
20 years ago, I was 9 years old and lamenting life. Was a poorfag so the only means of playing vidya were to either trade-in GEN games. Wouldn't get to play a Dreamcast for another year or so when my brother brought one home.
It quickly became my second favorite system after I fell in love with Marvel vs. Capcom.
dreamcast fucking sucks
I got for Christmas. Took it back shortly after and got the Xbox.
All Sega's consoles did. They were cool looking and that was it. They always were the weaker hardware with literally no games.

MDK 2 kind of blows compared to the first one, but it was a different game entirely made by entirely different people with different tastes, for a different audience.
MDK 1 was a serious deal, grim dark, extremely creative mashup of some shit like Aliens and Batman, but MDK 2 lacked style and was aimed at kids and tweens.
It wasn't mediocre, but it's got nothing on Shiny MDK.
I hadn't owned a console newer than the super nintendo and wouldn't until I bought myself a ps2 3 years after it came out
Sounds more like the Japanese side of the company intentionally sabotaged their business out of fucking pride and envy.
Not so much mad as disappointed.
zoom-zoom.
never played any DC game ever
what are some actual good DC games?
All Sega had to do was wait ONE MORE YEAR fixing the Dreamcast and make it play DVDs. ONE MORE YEAR building 3rd party support. ONE MORE YEAR of fixing and improving the Internet capabilities on the system. ONE MORE YEAR fixing and patching Sonic Adventure and the rest of their titles. They should've made the Dreamcast a WORLDWIDE release on 9.9.99. There would've been way more hype then when they actually released it. There would've been MORE launch titles WORLDWIDE. DVD playback on the Dreamcast would've also helped it A LOT on the market.
If Sega had done this instead, the Dreamcast would've lasted until 2006/2007.
Just ONE MORE YEAR.
Reflecting on the Dreamcast is not looking at the signs of the console but on the signs of the times it was released in. Unfortunately, executives were very fucking impulsive and made short-term decisions, which is stupid.
It's a shame what happened to it. Sonic has been surviving and thriving for the last 18 years with the help of their ally Nintendo. I think Sega should just ask/beg Nintendo for help developing Sonic games at this point. Nintendo would do a way better job making Sonic games. Sonic's 30th Anniversary is coming up in 2021 so I hope they make or have already made the right decisions on their next big Sonic game.
Most DC games are arcade ports afaik, so keep that in mind, and this is also in the context of games back in 90-'00:
Ready 2 Rumble
Power Stone
Soul Calibur
House of the Dead 2
Dynamite Cop (Diehard Arcade)
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2
Frogger 2
NFL 2K
Rippin' Riders
Jet Set Radio (though Future is better)
Space Channel 5
…
I can go on and on
more games than the n64.
>literally no games
>go to sleep for 7 hours
>thread is still alive, on Yea Forums
nice dead board vidiots
I just bought a Dreamcast for the first time today. I grew up exclusively with Nintendo consoles, and I'm really excited to play it. I'm gonna party like it's 1999.
Took me forever, but I finished a little 20th ann. drawing.
So many fond memories of my siblings and I playing Power Stone 2, Ready 2 Rumble, Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, it goes on.
Getting lost in Shenmue too, want to boot it up again and play something.
nice and saved
Nice.
They also wanted it to make it to market before the playstation. They made late production changes to the hardware so that it could be better adapted for polygonal based games. It was originally supposed to be a mostly 2D console and as a result it has some excellent arcade ports and other 2D games.
good shit senpai
>FF>PS
>Implying Aerith's death > Nei and Alys's death
Maybe PSO2 but that's all I'll give (you).
Good job, big homie.
I played the shit out of this in arcades. Ontario Tangram is such a rad fucking cool under title that makes absolutely no sense.
the d pad was terrible on the dreamcast. other than not useing the saturns 3d pad as a mold its the only issue i have with he controller
PSO gave birth to lots of games and still is a source of inspiration for games as recent as Xenoblade Chronicles X. Even though I like the original Phantasy Star games more I wish more people these days really understood PSO's influence on the industry.
Wow, that's really good. Nice job!
Yes. I remember exactly what I was doing that day. I worked at a Babbage's and was selling Dreamcasts.
Which is better: A Rev0 or Rev1 Dremcast? Also, should I get a Jap Dreamcast or an American one?
>Tfw Sega spent a year promoting Readyyy and producing a lot for it
>Tfw they kill it within 3 months after it drops without telling anyone in the staff beforehand
I mean I know Sega is notorious for bad business decisions (and Readyyy is just another gacha game) but I really wish they would finally learn.
this nigga
Nice
Take me back lads
This is a bot I will fight alongside.
SEGA FORGOT THE SONIC ADVENTURE ANNIVERSARY FUCK THEM.
It's okay, we remembered.
Melissa was fucking hot.
2ndPBP. Anyone that bought this shit was stupid.
>32X
>CD
>Saturn
>All bombed
>S-s-s-surely Sega can't fuck up a fifth time, right?
>EA doesn't go onto it
>PS2 blows it's ass out to where Dreamcast prolapses for Sega
Like, the only good thing I'll say about the Dreamcast is that Naomi was a good arcade board and Sega started to stop being retarded after years of in-fighting, but by them it was too little, too late. Even Code Veronica couldn't get me to buy the system on launch or ever.
Like that's stopped underage posters before.
>He only needed time to keep releasing a game each year and by 4 or 5 he would be done with the series, probably around 2003 or 2004.
1) Suzuki blew millions on the engine
2) He's stated the series is at least 8(!!!!!!!) titles
3) To finish the series by then, Sega would've had to throw BILLIONS down that well.
4) Anyone not retarded can see why Sega pulled the plug.
One last bump before midnight.
cmon only 7 posts more.
JP versions.
NA dragoon 1 is like 40 and sakura wars didnt even come out in NA.
>Final Fight > Bare Knuckle
>Final Fantasy > Phantasy Star
@477306408
Opoona was a game that gave me Dreamcast vibes, mainly in the visuals and style.
Is everyone just pretending like street fighter 3 3rd strike didn't exist?
Great thread
