Is it safe to use my Dreamcast with a cable like this? Didn’t realize the side was shaved off the power connecter to fit the port

it could corrupt your harddrive

fuck off with your meme answer you edgelord

fine here's a none meme answer you stupid nigger

It's fine.

Yeah it's no big deal. If you're still worried you can buy that cable at Best Buy for cheap.

>fine here's a none meme answer you stupid nigger
>still doesn't supply a real answer

It will work as long as you don't play Shenmue 2, because it will corrupt your Dpad so it only clicks down all the time.

user DON'T DO IT YOU'LL DESTROY US ALL

Cables don’t matter. Power source is internal.

well thanks for all the meme asnwers i guess, i just didnt want to burn my fucking house down, thanks i guess

Did the same thing with a PS Vita cable. Fucking worked like a charm. Don't worry about it OP.

As long as voltage and amps are the same, you're fine.

Don't. This creates mustard gas.

Only one way to find out

The issue isn't that it was shaved down, the issue is that the cable might be providing more power than the DC needs, which can fuck it up.

It is safe to plug in like that but it might be the wrong volts/amps. Check the cable, it should have micro print writing on it somewhere. Check the DC V against what the dreamcast needs, which you can find online.

The DC has an internal power supply. The cable doesn't do shit in regards to that

I didn't know that about the DC.

So then yeah, you should be totally fine OP. Plug that shit in.

I'll add that when I did, it was with the same exact kind of cable you're using now. It's just something to do with video games where they just make the hole smaller so you have to buy their special name brand cable. Don't fall for it. Just use a shaved down version.

Dreamcast thread.
Post your top five games.

I goofed, I was typing Power Stone 2 and forgot to delete it.

Couldn’t find anything on the specs of the original dc cable but this is what mine looks like, boots and plays burned discs fine but the Dreamcast does get toasty. I know it’s normal for it to get a lil hot but just wanted to know if I should grab an original cable or something similar

If the cable you are using is rounded on both ends, it won't be completely safe to use on your Dreamcast because it isn't polarized. Fortunately, these cables are very common and you can get them for few bucks on Amazon. Just make sure you get a cable that explicitly says polarized.

7a 125v is 100% correct. The cable is perfectly safe for the DC.

It gets hot because it's an old piece of shit. Blow the dust out of the vents.

>yfw it's the Dreamcast's 20th anniversary now (Sept 9)

oh shit

It's a perfectly normal AC power cable like the ones on stereos. But hey go buy a $25 cable.

>because it isn't polarized.
... It's AC power, it doesn't matter which wire is live and which is neutral. The Dreamcast has an internal PSU.

Some games I burned, I guess it’s really finicky with what cds are used but these staples branded cds work pretty well. My cd rom drive on my computer burns the games usually at 16x using imgburn and seems like the drive itself can’t burn at lower speeds for some reason, unless it has something to do with the actual cds, maybe I’m just retarded

If you don't see raw wire, then it's fine

The DC should be able to read burned discs just fine so either your roms are messed up or the cds are fucked.

I mean it's also a 20 year old piece of electronics. You could have a dirty reader or some such shit.

its fine because the voltage is the same.

>It's AC power, it doesn't matter which wire is live and which is neutral.
There is such a thing as polarized AC inputs and getting them backward will fuck shit up hard. The Dreamcast's AC input isn't polarized, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be.

based

Then why does it have a polarized receptacle? Seems like a waste to not be able to use perfectly capable cables in it.

high chance it'll produce nerve gas, i wouldnt do it

Just got a bunch of CD-Rs. Someone recommend me some DC games.

What’s so bad about a dude liking Seaman?

It’s fine, the power brick is inside the console, that cable is just a mean to get the electricity into it, it does matter as long as it’s of proper size for the intended current, which any cable with that kind of plug probably is.

techromancer
streetfighter third strike
star wars pod racers

those are a few of my favs although there arent limited to just the dc

the square end means that plug is polarized and the orientation actually matters. if you flip it backwards you may fry the console.

I don't know about the NA version, but the EU version *does not* have a polarized receptacle. I just checked.
It could be that the power supplies are actually engineered different and it actually matters which is live and neutral, but I seriously doubt it. More likely it's a US regulation thing and it's just a different receptacle, with the voltage/frequency issue handled elsewhere.

Don;t do it user it makes mustard gas
