You're being too harsh on indie developers I think. Games miss sales targets all the time and the industry is super volatile for tiny devs. Giving indie developers financial security to both work on the game and ensure a profit is not an indication that the game is going to be bad.

What Epic is doing is underhanded in the sense that its inconvenient for consumers and doesn't do to improve anything for people that use digital stores except add another memory-hungry shitshow of a launcher (EGS is literally the worst launcher I've used, its unbelievable how spartan it looks)

However literally paying people to make games is probably a good thing overall. Its unfortunate that they seem to pick indie games that have douchey developers

The only reason to buy a game at all is to support a developer you like, so there is no reason at all to ever buy one from EGS. Epic already paid them. In fact, for the first x copies purchased, none of the money is reaching the developer. Your purchase means nothing to anyone but Chink suits.
