The obvious reason would be because their platform was harder to come by so they decided to put aside their pride and place their games on competition with stronger playerbases.

Joker did not break the no guns rule because that never existed. You simply misunderstood Sakurai's comment on Snake. Again there was never a relevant in the west rule. Plenty of characters existed before Hero that are relevant in the west. Again, no, K Rool broke that rule. He was irrelevant for a decade, and got in before Banjo did. So even if you believe that rule existed, it was K Rool, not Banjo, who broke it. You are just making up shit to justify trying to add a non-video game originated character into Smash when that will simply never happen.

The only nonvidya character we will ever get, if any, is Goku, and if it doesn't happen in Ultimate it will never happen.
Also Terry didn't break that rule and was on a Nintendo console already. The only character to break that rule is technically Cloud as he was in Smash before FFVII made it's way to Nintendo platforms, even though FF was with them already earlier.
Those are all fan rules, and i'm pretty sure fans don't decide the DLC
