there are 3 issues with this game
1.
it isn't out yet and will never be
2. Nobody is going to pay 3000$ for a single ship when they can buy something similar for a one time purchase of 80$
3. nobody fucking knows what this is yet, they need some marketing, and if have the chance to lose massive amounts of money in PvP people will just not play it as opposed to losing literally thousands.

So what's the worst possible way this game could backfire on these scam artist? Is it too late or can this ship still sink somehow?

It's been too long at this point, for it to be anything other than a massive disappointment.
The best approach for them would have been to pull something like the entropia brand did, release some barebones game with fun customization features and some combat, then promise for two decades that things would come in the future. I also made thousands of dollars from scamming newbies on entropia, those were the days.

That's doubtful, considering the legal issues they've had with crytek, and how incompetent they are at using their engine.
