AI upscaling makes the backgrounds in these games look clear and not like shit. All Squenix did was basic ass upscaling with a smoothing filter, resulting in the blur you see. Also, I hate censorship too, but if it's just then I'm not too butthurt about it.

I'm having a blast with it.
Playing it for the first time since I first played it around its release and its just as amazing as I remembered.

Only thing that changed is that I'm old enough to understand things better...and its really really easy. The only fight that made me even remotely struggle was Raijiin vs Fujin in Balamb (Disc 2) and that's only cause I was trying to show off.

I like the updated character models, although I'm not a fan of Squalls new anime hair. It doesn't match the pre-rendered cutscenes.Yes they didn't remaster the backgrounds but they never do for these re-releases I dont know what people were expecting.

Its a good game.
Remaster version is garbage play the OG version.
Junctioning makes it very easy to break the game if you have even 2 brain cells.

user's Guide to Utterly Breaking the Game Within One Hour of Game Start:
1: Pick up Quetzalcoatl & Shiva from Squall's terminal.
2. Set Quetzalcoatl to learn Card and Shiva to learn Ice/Water Refine.
3. Go to the Balamb beach, grind the fishes there for Fish Fins and AP (6 AP per fight, takes 5 fights total).
4. Once Quetzalcoatl learns Card and Shiva learns Ice/Water Refine, learn Wind Refine and Card Mod.
5. Grind AP again (another 5 fights against fishes).
6. Go to the Fire Cavern with Quistis. Card all of the bombs you see, do whatever you want with the others.
7. Once you get Ifrit, have him learn +20% STR and STR-J (I think he starts with STR-J; if so then learn HP-J)
8. Go back to Garden, use the bomb cards to play Triple Triad against the old gatekeeper guy. Claim Thrustavaris and Abyss Worm cards. You need 5 of each.
9. Use Card Mod on Thrustavaris for Shear Feathers and Abyss Worms for Windmills.
10. Use Wind Refine on Windmills to get 100 Tornado, use it on Shear Feathers for 100 Aero.
11. Junction 100 Tornado to Strength.
12. Go to the Balamb Garden Library, pick up the Occult Fan.
13. Go do the SeeD exam mission in Dollet. Make sure that you draw Siren from the big monster boss on top of the radio tower!
14. Set Siren to learn Life Refine.
15. Once Siren learns Life Refine, take the Occult Fan and sell it at the Balamb Town shop, use the gil to buy Tents and/or Cottages from the Balamb Town shop.
16. Use Life Refine on the Tents and/or Cottages for 100 Curagas.
17. Junction 100 Curaga to HP.

Congratulations, you now have Disc 3 levels of HP and attack damage and have broken the shit out of game.

Bonus Round:
Fish Fins refine into Waters. You can use these + the Aeros to bump other stats or elemental damage up. Additionally, you can farm more Abyss Worms and Tents/Cottages to pimp your other party members if you really feel like it.

I show up in just about every FF8 thread because I'm a mondo faggot, but I fucking love it. It's so ridiculous and retarded, it's refreshing and there's nothing else like it. If you can't laugh at it, though, you might have a bad time...

Oh I almost forgot, there's an even faster way to do all this/get even more ridiculously overpowered if you're willing to sacrifice rare character cards from Triple Triad. If you have Zell in your party you can get Zell's card from playing against his mom in Balamb Town. Card Mod'ing Zell's card gives you 3 hyper armlets that teach any GF +60% strength ability. You can do similar with other character cards but I never do it because I'm autistic about collecting them.

If you want to have extra fun, gather some blitz cards from the trio of girls chatting near the dormitory and turn them into Thundagas. Then laugh your ass off as you obliterate X-ATM.

Just as an aside, almost everyone inside Balamb Garden share the same potential cards to use in TT (level 3 cards), so you can get Abyss Worm/Thrustavaris/Blitz/Ruby Dragon/Other Good Cards to Mod from anyone. The running kid, the gatekeeper, the quistis trepe fanclub (the fanclub also has a chance to drop the Quistis Card. I forget what it mods to.), the chatting girls, everyone.
