>review embargo lifts at the same time the game releases meme
Are Spiders that scared of burger journos giving them 5/10?
Greedfall
>but full cutscene "movies" are already up as well, same for gameplay
What is the point
it reminders me of fable 2
ill pick it up
i still know fucking nothing about this game
It's basically Risen, but the marketing team wants to show it as some Dragon Age quality RPG.
I guarantee you combat and story will be shit
>some Dragon Age quality RPG
They're idiots. Combining the name of Bioware and marketing is a huge mistake nowadays.
That's just Focus Home Interactives MO
>Greedfall
>no micro-transactions
>no denuvo
Where's a catch?
Dragon Age isnt even that good
Bioware games were a sign of RPG quality until DA2. So these guys are aiming to fill a niche that bioware has left. They literally said that.
The lip syncing is fucking atrocious jfc
The catch is the game is mediocre as fuck
Colonization is a crime
Define mediocre, because current RPG standards are low as fuck.
comes out midnight tomorrow right?
*takes your island*
Nothin personnel pleb
In 18 hours on PC.
>kind of want that flaming rapier
>but remember, no preorders
Fuck, what do
And most of us wouldn't exist without various ancestors in the past doing so.
>witcher 3 tier combat
no thanks
some people actually enjoy playing video games
No way, this is illegal.
Is their other games worth playing?
Looks a lot better combat wise than Witcher. And Witcher wasn’t that bad either desu
mars wars logs starts okay, then it kinda goes to shit, felt like a low budget KOTOR
of orcs and men has a pretty good story, but everything else is mediocre
havent played any others
remember that witcher devs were once like spiders making janky games but full of SOUL
now they just make money and lost the SOUL
Bound by Flame was good, final boss is a bit of a cunt though
I might pull the trigger if COOL magic and Spears are in the game. I’m sick of magic and Spears getting the shit end of the stick in games.
The fuck is this shit? Don't those frenchies know there's only 12 numbers on a clock?
There's a shadow magic that allows you to pull out cool-looking teleportsbehindu.
youtu.be
>he doesn't use a 24 hour clock
oh no oh no oh no
I'm just glad there's finally a fantasy game with guns. Ever since Tolkien, fucking fantasyfags have been terrified of including guns even when it doesn't make sense not to have them.
>he's a 12-hours-plebeian
Why aren't guns popular with semi-fantasy games? The last game that had them was POE2.
I think I will buy it
the problem with most fantasy writers and guns isn't that they aren't there
its that most writers/designers like the look of muh plate armor and sword/shield and include muskets/riffles anyways
Tactics and weapons changed drastically once reliable firearms began appearing on the battlefield but pike+shot is never showcased in any games because writers are hacks
i mean seriously Warcraft and Warhammer are both obvious examples of this, you have ships with cannons and men with riffled flintlock muskets fighting alongside guys with swords and shields and bows and arrows its retarded
I would rather fantasy writers stick to early medieval inspirations rather than continue to write nonsensical settings with guns that trigger my tism
Because Tolkien didn't have guns in LOTR and all fantasy is derivative of his works. When's the last time you saw a dwarf that wasn't just a copy of fucking Gimli?
>the magic tree is just entirely church magic
>no native pagan magic at all
>magic has single target and AoE holds, an instant teleport dodge, a self heal, and is entirely ranged so it's almost never in danger
>practically no reason at all not to just exclusively use church magic
youtu.be
People said it's like 40 hours long so it's probably one of the reasons why skill tree is so narrow ability-wise.
This is the head of spiders studios. Look how tired she looks, bros. All those years pouring her heart and soul into the game, it looks like a portion of life has been leeched from her. Let's all be sure to buy greedfall to put some life back in her.
>these dark circles
Still a qt.
I think most of the problem is that lots of fantasy writers want to include bows and swords, and guns, as you say, makes bow kinda retarded
even with magic, I mean, if you can have a magic bow, why not having magic gun?
Why would you use a bow if you have a gun?
>ts that most writers/designers like the look of muh plate armor and sword/shield and include muskets/riffles anyways
So you mean like it was in the real world?
Yeah, when magic is divine magic style religious fuckery I pretty much lose all interest in it.
Bows are much faster than flintlock guns user.
It's even more narrow than it seems, because I can't see a single reason why you'd use anything other than magic.
It's not divine, really. It's black mist, and kind of spooky. The church is evil from what little gameplay I've seen, who could've guessed?
i'm talking about fantasy with magic system or whatever
If you can have a bow imbuded with magic, why not gun?
Because western video game developers have no creativity and largely copy and paste tolkien shit.
Mana regeneration is pretty fucking slow so it seems.
only for the oppressed. Guess your ancestors should have innovated instead of playing in the mud.
Fucking this.
I honestly don't even think Tolkien was that good. Yet everyone just copies his shit.
Not sure why magic guns aren't more popular, but they have been done.
I've got no doubt there's ways to speed it up, and mana potions exist. The money you're not spending on health potions, traps, equipment can all go to mana potions.
you know for a fact that's not what I meant user
shieldwalls and men at arms charging the enemy with longbowmen loosing into the enemy didn't happen when muskets of any type (matchlock, wheel, or flint) were introduced
I specifically mentioned how Pike and Shot tactics are ignored by fantasy writers in favor of "early medieval slog fests but with guns"
All these talks about guns and magic make me want to play Arcanum again.
Hats are more important.
I've seen magic guns but not when there are magic bows as well
Because, tell me honestly - Why would you use a magic bow when you can use magic gun?
>but pike+shot is never showcased in any games because writers are hacks
More likely because you need mass combat to make it work and RPGs are almost always about small adventuring parties. Army tactics don't really apply then.
Magic gun is basically a raygun.
>I honestly don't even think Tolkien was that good. Yet everyone just copies his shit.
even /lit agrees Tolkien is a good writer you little contrarian fag
everyone badly COPYING him is an obvious problem but Tolkien himself has never been. Fantasy writers need to start being creative again is all
Kind of makes sense when a bow and arrow are silent stealthy alternatives and can be wielded by super human beings with the strength to make an arrow as deadly as roundshot.
On top of that when you're fighting creatures so sturdy that a roundshot cant kill them. Ill hand it to you that:
>wtf?! but melee weapons can?
but most of the time if the writing is decent they're ineffective till someone comes along with a magic one.
At least for Warhammer having read the books: the firearms are actually unreliable/poorly maintained unless they're in Dwarven hands so they're meh at best.
Tolkien was insanely good specifically at world building. People tend to forget both the Hobbit and LotR are just two stories in a massive world and history he came up with.
Nigga Tolkien is a good writer
his world bulding is by far one of the best if not the best
But i do agree that people need to stop copying him.
Depends entirely on the setting and how it works. How is the enchantment being applied? To the projectile? Is it engraved? Do I still need gunpowder to fire the gun? Would an arrow travel farther and faster due to an enchantment? Do I actually need to aim or do the spells just home in?
If you include guns, then most weapons don't matter. Bows, crossbows, and most kinds of melee weapons are instantly rendered completely irrelevant and worthless. The only things that retain any value are pikes, which are a formation weapon and not practical at all in small group tactics or solo combat (aka most situations the player is in within an RPG plot,) and swords, which are relegated to a sidearm you only have around as backup in case you don't have time to reload.
If you invoke the superhuman principle for how bows and melee can compete with and surpass guns, then you're actually making an argument for why guns aren't usuable and may not even show up, depending how common superhuman abilities are. That is, if your own strength and requisite durability make arrows ((through being able to wield bows with ridiculous draw strength) and melee weapons potentially far more deadly than a gun (which has a set velocity decided by its propellant) and in turn make a gun near-harmless to you (since it would require ranged or melee wielded by a superhuman to seriously hurt you) then why are guns there at all? If only a few people are superhuman then only low level enemies would have them, since nobody actually trying to compete on your level would use them, meaning they're for normalfags only, but if many or most people are superhuman guns probably wouldn't be invented at all.
>big circles are the core skills
>small circles only modify them
Now I've realized how few skills there are. Also funny that magic basically gets Force Stasis to again remind me of KOTOR.
pretty much this.
The only reason I can see anyone in that kind of setting using a gun is it because it's magic and it's take the source for the "bullet" from your own magic or something and turn it into projectile/ray/beam whatever, so it's just turn into fucking dragonball.
If you want bows/swords with magic, don't fucking include guns.
Yeah, kind of makes builds irrelevant.
I honestly want the game to do well just so everyone bashing it on Yea Forums feels like a retard, but I won't get my hopes up.
Even if the game got a solid 7/10 it'd still be better than what people on Yea Forums are saying it'll get. The companies other games got like 5.5/10 or 6/10 at best, like I think Technomancer didn't even pull a 6. If Greedfall got a fucking 8/10 then it might as well be getting a fucking 9 or higher at that point.
One person who got the game early apparently already found a broken strategy to combat, like you learn some sleep spell and just put enemies to sleep and it makes the game's combat irrelevant, also your party members are apparently really broken on top of all the damage your character will do. I think he was playing on hard mode as well.
Well that's kind of the fucked up part about Warhammer Fantasy.
The only strength non-whacky humans had was their numbers. They were ineffectual as fuck unless paired with a superhumans or in massive balls of fuck.
That's where the gun came into play. It evened the score for humans against non-humans. Sure an elf can fire an arrow that could pierce armor, but for every elf there were about 30 humans ready to shit their pants, and open fire at them.
For every champion of chaos that could wade through entire lines of enemies there was a firing line of terrified farmers ready to pepper him with shot after shot until he finally went down.
You're banking on people saying "well fuck! if I cant compete with the superhumans why even bother playing?" but we both know that shit dont work like that.
Frankly defeatism is something that plagues the moderately intelligent and the cowardly, both of which can be whipped into a formation by a big bastard too dumb to feel fear, but that big dumb bastard is more likely to live because he could command the human ant colonies against their enemies.
You're bringing up mass unit tactics again, which are irrelevant to an RPG character or party. If it takes 30 men doing chip damage over time to potentially take out a superhuman, then unless you are playing some weird experimental game, that's not going to matter to your characters in gameplay and is every argument against them using guns themselves.
The people who bash every game will just pretend it's bad or doing badly no matter what happens user. Those retards are still pretending RDR 2 was bad and not a monumental success.
but were not talking in character mechanics, were talking in-world mechanics. Where the gun is viable because it gives humans an edge against stronger opponents, and magic is something only one in a thousand can use.
People dont just throw their hands up and loudly declare "I give up" because the rules arent fair, most of them are born and learn over time that the rules arent fair and adapt to compete against them.
Now if we were talking about ingame mechanics: guns are just reflavored bows and crossbows and are stylistic choices.
Yea Forums pretends that it wants smaller studios to succeed over shitty triple A studios, yet shits over Spiders. Why? This studio feels like the perfect studio for us to support.
The issue is that I already addressed your scenario in my first post, you're just ignoring that.
Yea Forums is moderately intelligent and cowardly so they're cursed with the capacity for defeatism. Now normally this would imply that they can reject it, but most of them love wallowing in it.
I get your point, but let's not compare RDR2 to a game like Greedfall.
I mean you're the one who decided to move goal-posts to
>but muh RPG mechanics
from writing and world building. I just stuck to the train of thought.
There better be some consumables like bombs and shit or skills you learn from different sourcesthere probably aren't.
Even jank games like Risen 3 have more combat variety than light attack, heavy attack, dodge.
No, read again. I used the worldbuilding to justify mechanics. As I said, if being a superhuman is rare, only low level enemies (like your average human) would use guns, because they have a reason to rely on guns. That is not a statement that guns should or would not exist in such a scenario. However, superhumans (like your party invariably would be) would not use guns because anything else is more effective for them to use. The reason why they would only be low level enemies in gameplay is because the only way they'd matter in combat would be as mass units, which you don't normally fight in RPGs. If you're playing some ARPG and fighting tons of weak mass units that rely entirely on numbers to take you out, then you are playing a musou.
>Bioware games were a sign of RPG quality until DA2
touche and all, but rpgs constantly levi weak mass units that require overwhelming tactics against you.
Not moving the goalpost here but just stating a thought: but Dwarven Engineers are a fairly common trope in fantasy RPGs
>superhuman
>uses superhuman level firearms that surpass the current level of world technology
>not only relevant, but usually damn fun
again, not an argument in the discussion just a thought.
>he measures time with clocks
Bows also don't tend to be all that fatal. In medieval warfare your bowmen were laying down the equivalent of suppressing fire OR when they hit someone the goal was for them to be injured and thus waste time and resources on being treated, rather than actually attempting to kill them right away.
I unironically would
>Why? This studio feels like the perfect studio for us to support.
Because Spider is French. Therefore it's already starting with a malus. Pretty sure Yea Forums would be drooling all over it if it was developed by some drunk Russians in their garage, like Stalker or Pandemic despite their obvious flaws.
However, Tbrh, Spider have yet to released a decent/good game. So far all their previous projects range from mediocre to flat-out bad.
If firearms are capable of hurting superhumans then bows and melee weapons are rendered useless irrelevant and there's no good reason for the party to not just use guns.
What is warcraft? Pillars of eternity? Arcanum? There are plenty
Or a wand
There are consumables. Traps, bombs, and resins, but they're all covered by the bottom left area of the skill tree.
POE wasn't popular.
>actually caring what reviewers think about spiderjank
it will be 5/10 across the board because its not some some handholding button awesome "brave" game that the devs use a soapbox to make the game an allegory of current politics.
Among fantasy and rpg fans, everyone at least knows about it
And thinks it sucks, sure.
>warrior glass is one handers, two handers, and guns
>rogue class is one handers, guns, and traps
>magic has access to both magic trees, and then two handers for no fucking reason at all
Why the fuck would anyone play a warrior? The overlap with one handers and two handers is idiotic. Rogue and Mage actually have a balance of tools in their arsenal.
It also seems like magic is just favorite overall. The animations for it are really slick, and giving it two handers for whatever reason seems like favoritism. There is some scythe wielding edgelord mage build they want people to play as, I think.
What is your point here exactly? It is fantasy with guns, deal with it faggot
The guy you replied to said 'popular.' By downplaying the popularity of the games you mention it downplays the popularity of their world elements as well.
>he measures time
These facial animations look awful.
youtu.be
It's AA game, what did you expect.
Give ME Aphra wife!
For MALES only.
Has this been confirmed?
I am male!
AAA studios can be just as lazy these days, and fucking Kingdom Come Deliverance did better facial animations than this.
SHE IS! SHE IS!
Define popular? There are plenty of fantasy games with guns. PoE is one of those games, just because retard Yea Forums user 5433 thinks it sucks doesnt change that.
So it seems. Native bitch is bi, a ship fag is a bi, and your bff is str8. They wanted to make the game as authentic as possible and homos were a big question for the team, like should they include them or not. And therefore they picked historically accurate degeneracies.
Name enough to justify the label 'plenty.'
No way, we're all 12 y.o. magical girls here.
>Ugly manly black woman
Are your tastes that bad?
What!
Valeriefag, is that you?
Thank YOU anons! You ARE all GOOD anons!
What nothing, she's black and masculine. Masculine faces are ugly, black girls are ugly.
Cool, so it looks like I'll be rolling a female mage that has degenerate lesbian hand holding sessions with the native companion, and sides with the natives. Thanks.
Knew it.
Looks feminine to me. Then again, so do white bois.
Besides the ones i already mentioned? Torchlight, any warhammer game (there are many), Greedfall the very game we are talking about in this thread, the fable games, certain final fantasy games, risen, grim dawn.
No!
>Any warhammer games
Mass unit combat, then?
>Fable
>Risen
Renaissance/early modern setting
>Certain final fantasies
Science fantasy.
Yes. Show me pictures of the other girls in the game so that I may judge if all the waifus are this ugly.
Better than The Witcher 3
Give ME Siora wife!
Still looks a bit masculine and has moss growing on her face but it's at least better than the 'groid. That said I'm not big on siding with retarded savages over civilization.
What! Aphra IS civilization wife! What! Siora IS native wife!
So only high medieval technology counts as fantasy? Ok buddy. There are loads of warhammer games that arent total war, but ignoring that, you never said we were only talking about rpgs but fantasy settings in general. Also, not all FF games are science fiction, some are medieval some are steampunk, etc. But of course you wouldnt accept anything i posted i knew that already.
Yes, that's what I said. Put simply, Siora is better than Aphra but I despise siding with savages for ethical reasons, see what I mean?
>some are medieval some are steampunk, etc
Yes, but the only ones with guns are playing off of a science fantasy theme.
I WILL side WITH my CUTE wifes!
>he (she)
those two slots have opposing ideologies, though
And what's the third one?
>humans
Even if she wants you to wipe with your left hand and eat rotten deer kidneys?
Kurt
Is that all? No native male homo?? Fuck..
Do NOT worry anons it IS okay anons BECAUSE I CAN side WITH game one wife AND I CAN side WITH game two wife AND I CAN choose DIFFERENT wife IN each game anons! (I can! I can!)
There is none. The other three companions are the captain of your ship, who is some pacific islander face tattoo motherfucker, your best bro from childhood who is now a mercenary, and a church guy who wants to colonize the everloving shit out of the new continent while pretending to be your dad.
The last one is actually kind of funny. They've managed to attach the church and fatherhood to one character, so you can go against the church and your father figure at the same time. Edgy teenage rebellion, hooray.
but in both of those you will disappoint and maybe even have to kill the other one
also you type like a fag, and your shit's all retarded
No!
So my only choices are a nigger and a savage? Jesus Christ, these are some horrible waifu choices. One is too fucking ugly and the other is objectively in the wrong for wanting to be a fucking primitive.
>ignore the rest of my post
Rekt. What is FFXI? XII? Are those games sci fi? Or are they not fantasy games because they dont look enough like high medieval europe?
Western games taught me to make waifus out of protagonists. I suggest you do the same.
>11
Never played, sorry.
>12
Roughly 19th century, especially in the empire.
the primitives are in the right, tho
The old world has some disease that is killing everyone, including the player character. The natives all have the disease, but they're all perfectly healthy.
also the church is 200% evil, and is intentionally silencing discovers made on the new continent that conflict with its beliefs
Give ME miscegenation wife!
So the moral choice is to ignore bitches and hang out with colonist dad?
Good thing people in Vancouver, Alaska and Berlin, Slovakia will know when release is.
The evil choice, yes.
Wanting to abandon technology and civilization for unga bunga nature bullshit is never right, user.
This girl's main issue is that hair, ew.
What!
If morality is evil then I don't want to be good.
Except the unga bunga pagan nature shit has the benefits of actual fucking magic, and immunity to a disease that is ravaging the supposed civilized society.
No volume at all, it's basically glued flat to her scalp.
You are now aware that full plate was contemporary to firearms
Why cant 19th century aesthetics be classed as fantasy? If you are arguing that only high medieval european aesthetics are allowed to be fantasy just say so, its why i keep repeating this. FFXII has mages, knights, monsters, princesses and emperors etc. what is it missing? If its not fantasy what is it? And what are the requirements for something to be called a fantasy?
Would you rather have access to toilets and (eventually) the computer, along with church magic, or would you rather have nature magic and shit in the woods and wipe with your hands?
some of you are gay
So they took the infectious pathogen thing from real history and flipped it on its head? Kind of interesting i guess. I just hope the game doesnt try to shill a anti colonialist moral message
One of the key elements of 19th century fiction is a kind of early scifi, user. Filling your world up with magic crystal guns and airships and even cars isn't exactly 'fantasy.'
Give ME glue hair wife!
Who, specifically?
>One of the key elements of 19th century fiction is a kind of early scifi, user
That is completely irrelevant, and you didnt address any of my questions. They werent rhetorical, i am genuinely asking you.
Who's to say they don't have pagan magic to sort out their whole poop situation? Also the civilization you're referring to would be at the shitting in buckets and throwing it in the street stage at this point. Sewers didn't survive the romans, and had to be rediscovered.
ok, cool, so it'll be 10am when the game will appear on torrent sites.
You don't preorder
>pirate
>either the copy they're unlocking is the preorder version so you get it, or they just enable all the on disk content because why wouldn't they
pirate always wins
you
Seems like a really petty use to put magic to, especially in a society that definitely looks at it as holy. Also, sewers started spreading again in the 19th century, these guys look 18th at the least, they can't be too far from toilets. Meanwhile the savages will always be savages. Plus I guarantee you that there's a way to play colonist and steal the means to surviving mossface.
>pre-order on Steam
>play less than an hour
>refund if you don't like it or the reviews are really bad
Tell you what, when the game goes up on torrent trackers and I get it I'll make sure to check on the poop situation of the colony and the first native camp I see. If there are any indicators one is better off than the other I will side with the winner. Just for you, poop user.
It's not like that's the only issue, I'm just using the most visceral example. I can't think of any situation where someone would prefer to live in a mudhut in the woods over the more technologically advanced society.
you already know you incels are going to try to review bomb it whether it's good or not
>carbon-based lifeforms
It's not like most RPGs ever treat weapons realistically in the first place, the sword being the most used weapon isn't realistic in the least. Having some flintlock weapons doesn't mean you have to treat them realistically either.
Swords were more common in dueling, so that's another reason why you see them more in RPGs where dueling or 3v1/1v3 situations are the norm. That said, consider that I was arguing first from a worldbuilding perspective. You can shove in guns inexplicably next to swords as equals, but it's not going to make any sense and will detract from your world.
I like her resting bitch face, that shit turns me on for some reason
Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user!
How so? Why cant guns have magically enhanced powder and fire mithral rounds or something? Wouldnt that fit compete with superhuman sword weilders? Use your imagination a bit man
Give ME gun wife!
They can. The point is that if they can, then swords (let alone other melee weapons and bows, all of which died out sooner to guns) will be rendered irrelevant, and there is no reason at all for anyone to use them.
Magic is just as effective as guns in most cases, if not more so. Early gunpowder weapons aren't going to make the world unbelievable compared to all the other fantasy bullshit.
Limited skill tree
Clunky combat
Repetitive declarative lines
Janky face animations
Story will most likely not be as branched as they market it to be
Is that why cavalry charges didn't exist in the 17th and 18th centuries?
Made by the people who did Mars Stories and Technomancer
Because other weapons will turn useless.
Magic swords dude, that's all you need.
Technomancer DID have CUTE wifes user! (It did! It did!)
It's not a fucking 4 hours long walking sim, you can't tell it's shit by playing it for an hour.
I don't even remember this girl, and I played Technomancer to its completely random, arbitrary end.
Why can't guns be combined with magic, then?
Read my first post in full, I addressed it. Swords existed the longest because they were useful as sidearms you used when you couldn't fire your gun. They were never anyone's main weapon at that point.
Magic swords would be inferior to magic guns because they lack range. Nobody would use them as their primary weapon. As I stated in the above quote, swords would be nothing but a sidearm for gunmen, and all other melee weapons and bows would be unused (outside of mass combat before a pike autist jumps at me.)
Literally the best army lists for Empire, Dwarves, and Skaven are pike and shot in WH:FB. Even in Totalwar:WH those are strong armies. You can even do a Spanish Tercio with an Empire army with alot of micro. You can also just go full Napoleonic with a dwarf army and have nothing but gunners and cannons. Bows are only used by factions that refuse to use gunpowder.
When's the last time you played cavalry in an RPG?
Way cuter than this one desu.
Amelia IS a CUTE wife user AND Niesha IS a CUTE wife user!
Why would a sword be useless? If their one shot misses, you close the gap and sword them to death. Or maybe you have a spell that protects against missiles or something. Or your armour is enchanted out its balls and the bullet doesnt penetrate. Or you are super agile and hard to hit. Or you use illusion magic and create fake doubles as you close the gap and they have to guess which is the real you. Or your sword is capable of ranged attack like slashing things at a distance. Or you deflect the bullets like a jedi. You seriously lack imagination my dude
>Multicellular Organism
So a sword is nothing more than an irrelevant sidearm, and EVERYONE is a gunman. Really exciting, varied, and customizable gameplay there, champ, what with the single winning strategy/build.
>What if it's enchanted/magic shield
Why can't it be enchanted against swords?
>What if I'm super fast//aftermirags blah blah
Why can't you aim better but are agile enough to hit with the sword?
>and there is no reason at all for anyone to use them
Knives aren't even useless to this very day, in a world filled with guns. There is a reason cops pull their guns so quickly, user. The time to draw and aim a sidearm is so long a person can easily close the gap and grapple you, or just outright stab you if they make the first move.
When's the last time you played as part of a regiment in battle in a game with early firearms?
The type of fighting we see in PnP RPGs and most videogames isn't regimented warfare. These are tiny fights between just a few people. Do you think a fight in the 17th century resulted in people shooting at each other and ducking for cover to reload?
Even the large battles you're likely to find are no bigger and just as close-quarters as a fight onboard a ship. You know, the kind of combat where swords, spears, and pikes persisted for quite a long time.
Give ME sword wife!
Knives were never anyone's main weapon, ever. They've always been an emergency third (or very recently second) string weapon, a multipurpose tool, or the only thing peasants get to use because they're banned from swords legally.
Dual wielding isn't realistic, nor is stealth wielding daggers or using two handed swords. Sometimes gameplay trumps realism and you just gotta ignore nitpicky shit like that if it's something as minor as that. If we're being realistic, people would never use swords against plate armor and magic would curbstomp anything that came its way. Sometimes you gotta suspend your disbelief in fantasy and video games.
Regimented warfare isn't really relevant to this kind of game, no. Same with guns. That's the point.
Are early guns some crazy powerful thing that completely invalidate swords or not? Make up your fucking mind.
Fuck Rtwp
Consider that this argument started from a foundation of worldbuilding and using worldbuilding to justify mechanics. If you can't justify something in your worldbuilding then you have detracted from your setting.
You're ignoring that the argument is about personal combat vs. mass combat, and involves more than just swords.
You are basically creating your own ruleset where guns are the best and going ‘wtf guys swords are shit’. Its fantasy retard the laws of reality are whatever the creator dictates, not just your headcanon. If you want to balance swords with guns you could just make guns slow and unweildy, or extremely expensive and rare, or unable to be miniaturized for some reason so all guns are aquebus sized forever. Literally use your imagination you gun autist
Fuck you.
>guns you could just make guns slow and unweildy, or extremely expensive and rare, or unable to be miniaturized for some reason
Why are they like that?
>Knives were never anyone's main weapon, ever
You serious? There are entire gangs that exist solely on knives that exist NOW.
>They've always been an emergency third string weapon
No. Knights carried knives to finish off opponents, or to kill them in a grapple. They were extremely useful for guiding the point right between the gaps in an opponent's plate, and piercing chainmail. Swords are unwieldy as fuck for stabbing. The shorter the blade, the better.
I think the real question in the swords vs guns argument here is WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE BAYONETS? The game apparently even has spears. Yes, socket bayonets might be slightly above this setting's tech level, but bending it or allowing the installation of a plug bayonet real quick (you can draw a sword instantly, why not?) would be fine.
Nigga you don't get it?
If you can use a magic gun, there is no point for a magic sword.
If you want something close to it, make a fucking magic crossbow.
From a mechanics standpoint you have a melee weapon which is easy to switch to so bayonets are useless.
can magic flintlock pistol exist with magic bows and magic swords?
It really depends. Magical guns could be great for simple range and speed but when magic is involved it they could easily lose out as any mechanism to fire a magical gun could be used on a bow giving it the same speed.
More importantly if the bullets are purely magical in nature then they could lose out of damage just because magical arrows are bigger and throwing a magical projectile at a faster speed might be inferior to just having a more powerful magical projectile.
Guns are strictly superior to bows but if you toss magic into the equation bows can easily equal or outpace guns for a variety of reasons which would not be applicable in the real world.
Its the same bullshit authors use to explain why sword are somehow in futuristic worlds or worlds which have guns which would render swords useless. Oh clearly the reason that swords are back is because magical barriers/personal forcefields can deflect guns and blasters but these swords are able to cut right through them.
Its bullshit but it can be argued that it isn't unreasonable.
I don't know how, but I'm only remembering this game has long guns just now. Huh, the rogue build might be slightly more entertaining than I thought. Magic is probably still cooler, though.
Yes
From a mechanics standpoint, it's a different weapon. Want a musket and a pike? Congratulations, there's both. Hell, I'd even settle for clubbed muskets, pic related.
What the fuck is the point of ever attacking a ranged guy with melee weapons then? Crossbows and longbows take less time to reload as flintlock weapons so the dilemma is there too but no one cares because it's not about realism it's about sword and sorcery fantasy brawlin.
it's easier to block crossbow/longbow arrows. larger projectile, slower speed.
>There are entire gangs that exist solely on knives that exist NOW.
The fuck do you live?
>Knights carried knives as a sidearm
Wow, you repeated my point.
>I can't be wrong about anything: the post
>There are gangs that exist entirely on knives now
Because the other gangs don't have guns and neither do the people they are oppressing with their knives. Guns are scary for the same reason that crossbows are. They equalize the situation between and don't require much training to be an effective deterrent.
Just treat early firearms as the same effectiveness as fantasy bullshit longbows/crossbows, problem solved. It's not that big of a deal, I've seen worse violations in standard fantasy.
Not an answer.
No, they train with knives because they can bum rush people with guns. They are easier to use yes. If a weapon is easier to train a person on, is easy to use, and is able to beat a person wielding the other "superior" weapon, how is it useless?
They are also more concealable, and in many places it is not a felony or even illegal to be caught carrying one, but that's not relevant to the guns vs knives in combat thing.
Give ME club wife!
Seriously, where do you live with these weird meme gangs? Here all the nogs and spics use cheap shit guns like glocks and nothing else.
>Just treat early firearms as the same effectiveness as fantasy bullshit longbows/crossbows
Why?
>h clearly the reason that swords are back is because magical barriers/personal forcefields can deflect guns and blasters but these swords are able to cut right through them.
And that's always a copout.
You do realize if you want to force a guns and knives only situation it's just as bad as a guns and swords only situation?
>They train with knives so they can bumrush people with guns
No they don't. You don't need to train with someone to stab someone who is unaware of your malicious intent. Nobody bumrushes someone who they know has a gun because its fucking retarded. I don't know what anime you think you are living in but its stupid. Knives don't kill instantly and even stabbing someone ten times isn't going to kill them before they blow your dumb ass away if you somehow managed to close the distance and get a hit or two in without getting hit.
Stabbing someone to death when they are unaware you plan on doing them hard isn't proving that knives are superior to guns. Its proving that catching someone with a sneak attack is vastly superior than attacking them outright. Which of course it is.
>he thinks he can draw and shoot when a guy is holding him with one hand, and driving a knife into him with the other
>he thinks he could even draw his gun from his holster faster than a guy who just pulled a knife could close the distance and begin doing exactly this
>he doesn't know that people fall unconscious from rapid losses in blood pressure, like a big ol' fucking knife in the throat
okay then, cowboy, shoot 'em up :^)
I've hit people with swords in games after they've hit me a bunch of times. What's the big deal?
What you are describing is not combat. What you are describing is an assassination and a sneak attack. I'm not denying that if you plan to do someone harm and they don't know you do and have your weapon ready and attack them at the most optimal range for your weapon that you will most likely kill them. You don't even need a fucking knife to do that you could kill them with a hammer as the important thing isn't the weapon itself but the fact you caught someone completely unaware and started your attack without their knowledge they were in combat or in danger.
So the point still stands. You aren't going to fucking bumrush someone with a knife when they have a gun and know you are coming. You are supremely deluded if you think otherwise. You are ironically describing one of the best uses for a knife which is quietly and quickly killing someone who doesn't know you are there or plan to do them harm while at the same time completely ignoring the fact it relies on the person in question already being within arms reach and not knowing you plan on harming them.
No it isn't, and that's why they got colonized. Because they didn't create laws against it to stop the Europeans.
What! It DOES depend ON many factors user BECAUSE I HAVE been stabbed anons BUT it DOES depend ON where you ARE stabbed anons BECAUSE certain areas are NOT vital enough TO impair functions user AND if it is NOT vital area there is NOT much pain anons SO you CAN continue functioning anons IF you CAN withstand MENTAL pressure OF stabbing anons BECAUSE the physical sensation is NOT painful anons it IS only SLIGHTLY intrusive anons BUT there ARE other areas which CAN debilitate OR kill anons IF you ARE hit IN specific areas anons! (There are! There are!)
>>Dat Warmaster
Watching gameplay vids of this and it looks kinda cool. What's t he point of going melee at all and risk getting hit though when you can just circle strafe endlessly and shoot fire balls and shiet?
It's boring
You run out of mana for your spells and/or ammunition for your gun.
Crossbows were, if not as powerful, still infinitely more versatile than early modern firearms bruh
That adrenaline blocks pain for a while.
>shieldwalls and men at arms charging the enemy with longbowmen loosing into the enemy didn't happen when muskets of any type (matchlock, wheel, or flint) were introduced
That isn't true. The 16th century was a time when firearms became widespread, plate armour was absolutely ubiquitous, crossbows and even bows were still used and people used swords and shields.
The Spanish and northern Italians used infantry with shields and swords. The Scots did too. The highlanders used them up until Culloden in the mid 18th century. The English only phased out the longbow in the 1590s. The Mary Rose which sunk in 1545 was full of longbows and arrows. The Turks used bows for a long time afterwards. Hernan Cortez fielded more crossbowmen than arquebusiers.
Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user! Give ME adrenaline wife!
>If you include guns, then most weapons don't matter. Bows, crossbows, and most kinds of melee weapons are instantly rendered completely irrelevant and worthless. The only things that retain any value are pikes
You should look at 16th century warfare in Europe. Firearms weren't well developed. Firearms, crossbows, bows, pike, halberds, shields and swords were all used together.
Because I want more guns in fantasy. It's hardly the most egregious sin in setting inconsistency, there's already tons of anachronism in fantasy so it would just be another one to add onto the pile.
That's called a transitional period, it's only because guns had not been fully adopted, not because the were inferior.
Does anyone have a screenshot or proof of spears being in the game? Someone said they're in but I haven't seen anything yet.
>Ever since Tolkien, fucking fantasyfags have been terrified of including guns even when it doesn't make sense not to have them.
Tolkien was working off of traditional European mythopoeia and continuing the tradition. His interests were mainly in the Anglo-Saxon and Germanic/Norse world blended with Christian philosophy. Firearms didn't exist in the realm of his interests. He was into things like Beowulf and the Sagas.
Guns are ugly and boring, just play a shooter.
Yes, because it was a transitional period.
Flintlock firearms aren't even in shooters
Guns are too powerful and too easy to use for sword and board fantasy. Unless there is some bullshit reason as to why the protagonist and their companions are somehow immune to gunfire then the villainous noble should have sniped them from half a mile away five chapters after they met.
>That's called a transitional period, it's only because guns had not been fully adopted, not because the were inferior.
A transitional period of 100 years isn't so much of a transitional period, especially when firearms were still always paired with cold steel arms and plate armour for another 100 years after that.
You should correct that.
God, I at least hope it's better than DAO. That's a pretty low bar to meet.
Technology took a while to spread before industrialization, user.
They're immune to arrows, stabbing, and other such normally fatal or at least crippling injuries, why would guns be any different? It's a fucking game, the combat is never realistic so why bother with the pretense just for early flintlock weaponry?
>Guns are too powerful and too easy to use for sword and board fantasy.
It depends what kind. A musket from 1540 isn't going to function as easily as one from 1700.
Why put guns in at all then?
I was actually talking more about novels than about games. In the case of novels where the wounds actually happen instead of just being a gameplay contrivance where the only actual damage to the PC happens in cutscenes. Its fine in games as it is just a matter of gameplay but the implications for the world at large generally needed to be addresses.
Fable 2 and 3 had guns if I recall though.
so a standard mid to late 2000's bioware rpg around mass effect 2 and 3 time frame. Really diggin' deep there zoomer
>transitional period
that's just a huge meme phrase user
>Technology took a while to spread before industrialization, user.
If you want to call 1490-1690 (the period of matchlock muskets) a transitional period, how isn't 1690-1830 (the period of flintlocks) simply a transitional period too? And the period of percussion cap muskets is even shorter and can be a transitional period too.
There was no period of transition. Just a continuous advancement of firearm technology.
Give ME Miranda wife!
>Guns are too powerful and too easy to use for sword and board fantasy.
They aren't. First of all there are many different kinds. A matchlock musket wouldn't necessarily outclass other weapons. It has its limitations, especially in certain environments. Highlanders with swords and shields massacred an English army of musketeers at the Battle of Killiecrankie in 1689.
The musket takes time to load, the powder can get fouled, musketeers are vulnerable to cavalry unless they have socket bayonets and proper training. Matchlocks need the match to be lit to be ready, the match makes light, smoke and smell and makes it harder to hide.
>he thinks history is a continuous flow instead of a series of discrete chunks
Found the Boomer.
She looks pretty tired. I hope she'll get some rest once the game is out.
Wait ... you didn't know ... y-you are a 12 year old girl, r-right user, you know there are consequences for not being a 12 year old girl on the korean basket weaving forum made for lolies
I am male!
Because its your made up fantasy setting and you think its cool?
You think everyone instantly got access to enough guns for their army at the same time?
Mommy Jehanne IS cute anons! She IS cute anons! (She is! She is!)
Cute indeed
>Dude your character should focus exclusively on boarding actions and surprise attacks
Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user!
What a clusterfuck
You unlock Tribal/Native magic later on.
Sever consequences await...
Why not just play a shooter?
>guns decimate humanoids
>useless against anything like a tree/golems etc
ahh good times in poe2
No!
isn't that the game where one of the waifus is some really ugly rapist furry woman
She really meant sever too, if you're not a loli then you'll be made into one.
>tfw I'm getting this even though it's most likely a 6/10 mediocre game because I'm starved for a WRPG
Who know, it could end up Spider's Witcher 1.
But seriously, why are western action RPG's so uncommon even though every AAA title of the genre becomes massively popular?
No! I am male!
>You think everyone instantly got access to enough guns for their army at the same time?
The English only phased out the longbow in the 1590s while at the same time they had also been using arquebuses just as long as everyone else in Western Europe. The Scots were using guns at Culloden(1745) at the same time their main weapons were swords and lochobar axes. The Turks adopted guns in Europe more of less the earliest and they also used archers later than everyone else. Cortez has crossbowmen and gunners.
Guns were used alongside bows, crossbows, swords and shields for a long time. Even in the 1450s at the end of the Hundred Years Wars. The people who got guns still used them alongside the other weapons.
>tfw I'm now caught between this game and encased a post apoc sci fi
>or in other words prey 2017 but less retarded
Stupidity.
Not for long!
>Why not just play a shooter?
they generally don't fit into the pace of a shooter game.
youtube.com
Yes, because guns were too expensive to produce for your entire army at that point since they were handcrafted.
They sure don't fit into fantasy either.
No!
Encased doesn't even come out this year, it's also nothing like Prey.
The early access is next week...
>Yes, because guns were too expensive to produce for your entire army at that point since they were handcrafted.
No. The problem was that musketeers couldn't defend themselves from charging attacks. Cavalry could overrun them. They needed pikemen to protect them. Even in 1690 when the flintlock started to be more widespread a unit still had a pikeman at a ratio of 1 for every 5 musketeers. But then, even infantry could overrun musketeers. At the battles of Killiecrankie and Preston Pans, highlanders with swords and shields charging with cold steel butchered English musketeers and routed them.
What IS Encased anons! What IS it anons! Does it have CUTE wifes anons! (Does it! Does it!)
For backers only, no?
No, but you can gun done robots to protect your waifus.
>The English were stupid, that makes swords as good as guns
There's a few rpgs I still need to finish, but I'll probably pick this up regardless. I really wanna play SOMETHING other than pathfined kingmaker and it's rng combat. Actually just an RPG where you take a more active role in aiming in general. Secondly an RPG that isn't in ye old times would be nice too, I feel like the market is oversaturated with this over things like sci-fi modern-ish day.
Nope, full solid early access release. It was confirmed on the forums. The backer beta is done this week
I unironically enjoyed both.
>>The English were stupid, that makes swords as good as guns
Even when both sides were completely armed with flintlock muskets, bayonet charges without firing a single shot were effective. Look up the training and combat doctrines by the Russian general Suvorov.
>I really wanna play SOMETHING other than pathfined kingmaker and it's rng combat
Are you me? I'm switching between RPGs constantly, but I want something new already. Even Enderal is not enough
he was unironically the very best fantasy writer in the history of mankind you little faggot pleb
Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user! I am male BUT it IS okay user IF it IS a GOOD game user AND if they DO add wifes later user BUT I will NOT forgive Obsidian FOR no wifes IN Outer Worlds user BECAUSE Obsidian DID have BAD wifes IN Deadfire SO I will NOT forgive Obsidian user FOR Deadfire WITH Outer Worlds user BUT Encased IS okay WITH no wifes user BECAUSE I do NOT need TO forgive Encased developers FOR previous BAD wifes story user! (Do not! Do not!)
Its decent so as I've been playing the backer version but there is fucking ZERO content. Early access might add more but I will be super interested when it actually comes out. At the moment though the text is full of random CYKA BYLAT that they didn't get around to actually translating.
I love everything about scanning shit, quests and whatnot there is already and if it keeps up in the final version and has actual content to enjoy then it will probably be a solid 7 or 8 game.
Russians have never been good at fighting, user.
Fuck, you're right.
Hopefully I can finish this game before that comes out.
based retard
Ever read any 19th century literature at any point?
Depends on the gun you fucking idiot. Some flintlock pistol or musket isn’t going to do shit in certain contexts
It'll kill you at range, which is all that matters.
They weren't as good but under certain circumstances when the technology was young you could overcome them. Now though anyone saying swords are just as effective as guns is a straight up retard.
Nobody wants to play the one retard with a sword in the era of guns.
It's not a scifi looter shooter. You are only allowed to make those these days.
you’re saying 19th century tech can’t be included in fantasy fiction. That’s retarded.
Why do review embargos even exist? Serious question
I'm saying that if you put in a magitech flying car then that's not fantasy.
Generally just to prevent people who pre-ordered or will buy day one from not buying due to reviews.
Because sales must go on. And 5/10 on MC may hurt sales badly.
I mean I'm kind of interested in it, it's either greedfall, surge 2 or encased. Encased mostly has my eye due to reminding me of shadowrun a little.
it won’t kill someone wearing something that prevents it from hitting them. or someone so fast the shooter can’t target them. which is what fantasy is full of.
you have zero imagination. try being less autistic and think outside of the box for once in your life
youtube.com
Swords are unstoppable.
If they have no faith in their own game, why should I?
It's basically just a "this game is shit" stamp at that point.
and that’s a retarded thing to say. you are conflating medieval high fantasy with the entire genre
>it won’t kill someone wearing something that prevents it from hitting them. or someone so fast the shooter can’t target them
There's no reason that wouldn't apply to melee.
Otherwise it is a race to who publishes the first "review" out of 15 minutes of gameplay. Embargo time gives them time to actually play the game and incentives it.
This is actually a good point, but why is the embargo lifted on release day?
>Harry Potter
>most popular fantasy books of our lives by far
>literally has a magitech flying car
what the fuck is your problem user? you trolling?
>Sewers didn't survive the romans, and had to be rediscovered.
Romans were largely shitting in buckets and throwing it onto the street as well, they just had openings in the street so the shit would eventually make its way into the sewers after a lovely walk through the city, teh communal shit stations weren't standard.
Surge 2 is probably the best out of them by far as Encased in still a long way from done. It isn't really an RPG and is more of an ARPG with very little actual you know talking.
Encased actually reminded me a lot of Fallout 2 but with a dash of Stalker. But again no content.
Dude, critics' scores are a pure shit and never were objective. It's all about money and reddit-ness of the game. But try to explain that to normalfags.
ok? your argument is that guns and swords somehow can’t coexist in fantasy
I'd wait until all the DLCs are out before jumping on Surge 2.
It didn't look that bad besides the janky animations.
While I'm not that guy I would argue that guns as we know them can't exist in fantasy. You can use Muskets and similar shit because its weaker and because of all the downsides is not universally better than a bow. But if you were to actually use modern guns as a basis then you have to mostly neuter ranged options with forcefields and other such things and turn it into super high fantasy in order for them to not be the most bullshit things ever.
Enderal
Yea skyrim style combat will eventually get stale. The AI isn't exactly advanced enough to keep combat interesting and same with the combat system. Threre's potential but I feel like it wasn't exploited enough.
Because why would you use swords when guns are superior?
>Fantasy
>Takes place in the 90's
I personally just need a soulsy game and enjoyed the first game even though the bosses were absolute ass. 2 looks like a big enough improvement and will scratch that same itch that Remnant only barely managed touch with a finger.
Simple user, guns in many shooters tend to take multiple shots to kill, but the melee attack instakills. So clearly by this logic a sword is overpowered as long as you have enough armor and healing to tank the bullets!
kek so if your single shot that takes minutes to reload misses then you just get killed? what is this logic
It's fantasy. The year doesn't matter only the subject matter and content. It involves magic and secret societies of wizards. Its fantasy. It's what you would call "modern" fantasy if you wanted to group it as something more specific.
Enderal is shit
Worst world design in an RPG I've ever seen
>guns in many shooters tend to take multiple shots to kill, but the melee attack instakills.
Why?
If you can swing your sword superhumanly fast, you can reload superhumanly fast too.
So if I believed in magic this would be fantasy.
>books about wizards and dragons and spells and magic
>not fantasy
>All these guns versus swords debates
>When fucking MAGIC can exist in the setting
Why would you use something so pedestrian as mortal goddamned weapons you plebs?
The only shit here is your taste. Enderal is objectively one of the best rpgs of a decade.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
It's probably 100% a game balance choice.
>He managed to get that close to someone he earned the instakill.
I'm not sure what you are trying to get at. Genre definitions are fairly loose but what defines fantasy is fantastical elements and not the time period. Artemis Fowl is fantasy despite having high technology because the focus is the fantastical elements. However books can have both and be Fantasy Sci-Fi because it involves both magic and advanced technology.
>Nobody wants to play the one retard with a sword in the era of guns.
Whose to say that guns are ubiquitous or highly developed enough to make swords obsolete in the setting? There are guns in The Seven Samurai, one of the greatest sword fighting films ever.
What if you are a regular person fighting a Witcher type mutant who dodges your pistol shot and rushes you? You will have sword on you obviously if you live in a world where this can happen
t. someone who dropped it before even getting to Ark I bet
When we're talking worldbuilding, that doesn't work.
If he's faster than a fucking bullet he'll wreck my ass in melee too.
Because unless you are an actual pleb not everyone in your world should be able to wield magical weapons
A film isn't a game, and the entire point is that they're a bunch of outdated old faggots. Is your plot a tragedy about how your way of life is dying out?
No you would have something that has more of a scatter if you lived in that world. What kind of retard are you that thinks if you can't hit someone that can fucking dodge a bullet you can beat them in swordplay? They would have skewered you long before hand as you are a normal ass person.
The solution to fighting a fucking mutant with superspeed isn't to try and beat him at swords. Its to fucking negate that advantage entirely by not engaging him in a way that lets him leverage it.
So you’re just gonna get rekt? Think logically ffs, you would at least try to kill the guy with a blade. It’s your fucking life at stake
What if 5000 regular guys are rushing you with swords and there are 200 of you with guns?
>A film isn't a game, and the entire point is that they're a bunch of outdated old faggots
They are fighting against bandits who use swords and spears and also have four muskets. Part of the plot involves Kyūzō hunting down them one by one. It's not about them being outdated. The samurai and bandits fight them same way.
Actually you'd probably be dead, if it can dodge bullets why would it havetrouble dodging your slow human swings?
>If you can swing your sword superhumanly fast, you can reload superhumanly fast too.
Whose to say that can swing your sword superhumanly fast?
The only thing making this a make or break thing is this:
1.Can I cosplay as saltspyre with the wide brim stove hat including duel wield with rapier and pistol
2.Can I make a plague doctor set mixed with heavy armor
>Just gonna get rekt
If you try to kill him with a sword you are an idiot and deserve to die because you already made a huge tactical error in deciding that if someone could dodge a bullet that swords were a viable option. I don't know if you understand how fast someone has to be to actually dodge a bullet if they can and you pull out a sword your ancestors should kill themselves again in shame.
You shouldn't have a sword as backup in that case you should have a fucking magical flamethrower.
You niggers keep fighting the hypothetical holy shit you are so fucking autistic
flintlock pistols aren’t shit. there’s a reason every pirate is depicted as having a pistol and a sword. If the pistol misses or if you’re outnumbered you are fucked in melee without a sword. You can’t fucking reload fast enough
>Niggers keep fighting the hypothetical
>Literally replying to WELL WHAT IF THEY HAVE MUTANT WITCHER SPEED AND DODGE IT
I don't even know how to respond to this kind of idiocy. If you want to carry a sword as backup for when you fuckup when fighting a normal human its fine in worlds where guns are shitty. In the case as was literally posed where you are a fighting a goddamned superspeed mutant who can dodge bullets then you are again a motherfucking retard for trying to sword fight them.
can't wait to romance all the grills
If you can swing a sword super humanly fast then you can add powder, add the wadding, and reload super humanly faster too.
So you're just a mundane human? Then you're fucked against guns, period.
Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user!
Your only choices are a black and a retarded savage, though.
cool
Exactly, which is why guns are superior. That's the problem.
what if both of those are in the same world? and the character with the gun and sword has never seen the mutants because they are from a different continent? he shoots at it, misses, gets rushed... it’s totally logical to assume he would at least pull his sword out and try to defend himself regardless of whether he’s gonna get rekt
Someone tell me what the fuck is the game about
role-playing
It IS about CUTE wifes user! You CAN have colonial wife OR native wife user! (You can! You can!)
>Stop arguing hypothetical
>Here is an even more agonizingly stupid hypothetical
Yes you finally did it. If you create a convoluted enough hypothetical you can create a situation where someone would think that pulling out a sword would be a good idea against a mutant with super powers because they did not know it was a mutant with super powers and thought they merely missed.
Thus proving if someone knows nothing about their enemy and is facing something that they have never seen before but looks identical to something they have then they will make what is a stupid decision out of pure ignorance.
You come from the civilized land, you come to this land to colonize it. It's full of disgusting white savages. However these savages all are infected with syphilisaids, but are doing completely. This is important because just about everyone in civilization has syphilisaids, including you, and it's killing all of you. So now you have to figure how the savages are surviving and exploit the shit out of it, or else go full native like in Avatar only its whites instead of blue cat people.
You're saying it as if there are so many of them around
>Anthem
>Destiny
>Borderlands
Any more?
"No!"
>no niggers
aaaaand it's a day 1 buy
This totally negates your own argument as it means that the person in question has to be totally unaware of the fact that certain things and abilities exist otherwise they would have counter measures specifically for those things which would not be using swords. You tacitly admitting that swords are a terrible idea and only those that don't know the threat they are facing would use one and anyone knowingly doing so would be retarded.
Except and she's one of only two waifus, the only waifu you can get unless you side with the natives.
Kek.
There is nigger love interest user. Is safe to assume there will be few more and they aren't even the ones being colonized.
It really is retarded of them if they expect most people will pick civilization. People are 100% going to side with the natives because 'muh poor natives' and you know, not being black.
western developers bad
Japanese developers good
>So you're just a mundane human? Then you're fucked against guns, period.
No you aren't you fucking idiot niggerchild. Firearms coexisted with bows, swords, shields and crossbows for over a hundred years. The highlanders defeated multiple British armies by charging with swords and axes. It's not like the AR-15 was invented in 1715 and then warfare instantly changed. You know literally nothing.
>friend preordered this without second thought after viewing the trailer
I don't get it. It looks like asscreed had a meth baby with witcher/skyrin.
And firearms outclassed all of them
>Muh highlanders
Catching a bunch of incompetent Brits by surprise means nothing. The fucking Americans beat the Brits by just jumping them.
didn't know you were so fond of the whole blood and soil ideology. Enjoy being an ethnocentrist.
She IS cute!
No, she's not. Not unless man-apes are your fetish.
Bound by Flame was a horrendous game with a couple of good ideas.
What!
Yep.
Really? For fucks sake.
No!
>And firearms outclassed all of them
Eventually, after hundreds of years of development. Just because AR-15s exist doesn't mean that they would be in the setting. If the setting has firearms from 1450, swords are still vital. If the setting has firearms from 1550, swords are still vital. If the setting has firearms from 1650, swords are still vital. If the setting has firearms from 1750, swords are still have a chance.
Yep. It's either side with the retarded snow niggers in huts or your only option is the she-ape. Otherwise it's virginity forever for the MC.
Yes!
>it's a Spiders game
That's your problem right there
When people say guns they don't mean Muskets nigger. The fact that you keep going back to them proves the fact of their superiority that you have to use the crudest versions of them to make anything else relevant.
Never played Spiders game before. What am I in for?
Jank and mediocrity.
I finished MEA, you can barely scare me with that.
>Mediocrity
No. Jank and being terrible. Elex was janky and mediocre. Technomancer was janky and terrible.
I did too. I don't know where you saw any asscred in the trailer. It was all standard Gothic things, with a unique setting. I get the feeling you don't know shit about video games and never played eurojank, and your friends know better
meme is that spiders games are always buggy as fuck at launch
Looks like combat is even worse than in dark souls...hard pass
>Elex was janky and mediocre
ELEX was fucking incredible, best Piranha Bytes game since Gothic 2
What! Do anons STILL mean Greedfall anons! What guns DO anons mean anons! Is THIS about Greedfall anons! (Is it! Is it!)
No joke, is ANYONE going to side with the natives? At all?
Colonization should be encouraged as niggers are not capable enough
Can you not side with anyone?
But in this world niggers are colonizing whites.
>When people say guns they don't mean Muskets nigger. The fact that you keep going back to them proves the fact of their superiority that you have to use the crudest versions of them to make anything else relevant.
Why the fuck would you have anything but muskets anything that isn't modern/urban fantasy?
We don't know.
I WILL side WITH native wife AND I WILL side WITH colonial wife user! (I will! I will!)
The fuck is magic ring
But which is the one that you'll side with for story reasons and not just to romance the girl?
What!
But the game is set prior to the invention or widespread use of magazines and clips.
Which side do you agree with more, nature fuckers or civilization?
it was good time when i forget about your existence anyway are you tranny who think this is some cute shit or just mentaly retarted?
My fetish is to convert my companions to my faction. Can I do that?
It IS okay user I do NOT know user it does NOT matter FOR me user! (Does not! Does not!)
I am male!
>But the game is set prior to the invention or widespread use of magazines and clips.
No, but obviously you can't have wheeled transports in fantasy because automobiles are just so much better than walking. No, you can't have carts! Bringing up horse pulled carriages only proves how much better the automobile is than walking!
dont lie to me
What!
Carriages really do make walking irrelevant except for hiking, though.
No
Judging by the trophies there might be a very good reason to side with them.
Got the image?
Let me guess, you're going to die from that mark on your cheek if you won't?
No.
Apparently you're a native by blood so it's Fire Emblem Fates situation since several trophies hint at the secret of your origins and the fact islanders are "your roots"
Just because they're your people doesn't mean siding with them is the right thing to do, though.
>scared of
No, they KNOW that is the universal score the game will receive. They don't make good games.
What is a good game anyway
That would depend on how they will treat you and whether or not there's your living relatives still there.
The natives are Celts and invading forces have niggers in them after all.
Not one that's unbalanced and buggy with shit pacing and game design.
>Review embargo
Why do professional reviewers opinions matter again?
What even are you?
>what is reputation
zoomers and millennials are idiots who support them even when they know they constantly lying and big publisher paying money for these reviews
>want cute waifu
>have to resist subjugating the natives.
Why do you punish me god
I am wife scholar!
Not really DAO is pretty good and only contrarians on Yea Forums or people with incredibly shit taste think otherwise.
Verified Opinions TM.
the only good dao was the first and even that would be somehow medicore
>Verified Opinions
people who dont know how to even play video games anymore will definitely tell you if game is good just pirate it and decide yourself it if deserve money or not or if you have slow internet watch it on youtube and then decide
God has made life as a constant shit test, user.
Why do you type like you have brain damage?
How many daos are there, user?
What!
Well since your options are either side with natives or marry an ape, I think a lot of people are going to do so
Depends on what branch of Taoism you follow.
haha good one. ELEX was pretty shitty. The UI was terrible and so was the combat. Nowhere near G2.
Don't talk to him, he literally does nothing but troll rpg threads on Yea Forums all day every day. The most pathetic type of a man you can imagine
>marry an ape
Explain
Combat was bad at first but after a few skills it's actually all right, nothing wrong but the ui, but the world and exploration was elder god tier
Well done
He says that because the only waifu choices are some sheboon for the colonizers, and the white barbarian for the natives.
see
You can easily avoid that by playing as a girl and romancing a dude. Like a true heterosexual man.
Copy that. Definitely a specimen, that one
Self explanatory
Who knows maybe we can work with the natives to convert them or something. I just hope we arent forced to kick out civilization by going with native waifu.
B-Barbarian
>sweating profusely
Y-You mean the kind with long flowing hair, toned body, that breaks your hips during snu snu?
if the grim reaper's Scythe is, then a spear is very likely.
Does this mean bayonets are in the game?
Sadly more 'realistic' so not as fun. Just some tribal.
Sadly, this is going to be the best RPG os this year
More like "the only".
That only works if you can make the MC cute, and this is a western game.
>Spiders
>Focus Interactive
don't these guys just exclusively release mediocre jank?
You've got wrong priorities, young lad.
Still better than ubisoft games.
one type of poo poo being better than another type of poo poo does not make the first poo poo worthwhile though friend!
The native ending according to the achievments is the MC becoming their God.
It doesnt sound so bad if your wife is white too.
they did released decent games but you could tell they are low budget studio the storytelling itself was always ok but the gameplay mainly combat was really meh
I liked bound by flame
We live in a time when you're forced to find the best looking poo poo in a shitpool in order to entertain ourselves.
Subjugate them and rape a baby in to her like papa america did.
>Become god
>Get white wife
>Probably expel from your lands
If only you could convince your people to start developing beyond the early iron age.
She's extremely attractive
Valerie user if you are still in this thread who is your mass effect or dragon age wife?
Thank YOU user! You ARE a GOOD user!
Risen 1 was good though
I'ne never actually played their games, I'm only going off general rep. and that.
I might actually give this a go
Don’t games add microtrannies after launch these days?
It's a singleplayer game
Give ME Miranda wife! I like her butt! Give ME Cassandra wife! I like her tummy!
>sheathing your weapon makes it completely disappear
what the FUCK
its current year how is this possible
Early firearms:
Slower to reload and less accurate than a crossbow
Still couldn't penetrate strong plate armor
Left you completely vulnerable/useless if someone got close enough
It took actual centuries of war for firearms to shift how everything worked. Pikes and swords were being used right up into WW1 even with things like shotguns and grenades existing. We even still have bayonets to this day.
A late 1800's-esque setting could easily incorporate firearms with melee weapons, and a late 1600's-esque setting could mix them with knights, pike formations, crossbowmen/archers, and so forth.
If you drop a modern light machinegun into a fantasy setting, yes it's going to btfo everything.
If you drop a 1600's musket into a fantasy setting you're going to get something very similar to what we already saw in human history.
You have good taste user
Every period is a transitional period
dropped
I bet it's because of cloth physics.
Here! I give YOU this RARE wife!
>All this
Doesn't matter when you hit the guy from range and blow him apart.
>Pikes and swords in WWI
Not by the relevant countries. Turks tried and got fucking mowed through for it.
>Late 1800's
Nobody wants to play "Everyone is a gunner but they have a sword just in case," user. That's the only class that'd work.
If I can become the native's god then civilization can fuck right off I'll make my own civilization
Exactly
You are a brainlet arguing against actual human history where firearms coexisted with plate, crossbows, etc.
I don't really know how to get it through to someone like you that you can have guns in a fantasy setting when you refuse to even accept that it literally happened in human history already.
If anything, it's way harder to drop magic into fantasy in a way that makes any sense than it is to drop firearms into it.
>Slower to reload and less accurate than a crossbow
Both of these are incorrect.
>Still couldn't penetrate strong plate armor
As is this. There are reasons why the only people with armor were cavalry.
>Left you completely vulnerable/useless if someone got close enough
That's what bayonets were for (which are why cavalry wore armor).
spiders games are something that everyone gets tricked into buying once because they resemble something else youve liked and you cant quite tell whats supposed to be bad about it instead of good until youre playing the thing you bought
then you realize its abysmal 4/10 shit with no redeeming qualities and you desperately want to sell it back
I guess it's my duty to fall for this b8 then.
you probally clap for burgerwares games stfu
