Reusable code and assets is a must-have for development. As long as it looks good, who cares.

Not defending Gamefreak because the game is shaping up to be the one of the worst console games yet, but this tweet is mostly correct.

>as long as it looks good

but it doesn't look good

>Twitter screencap thread

That's what I said

The problem isn't reusing animations, the problem is that GAMEFREAK IS TOO LAZY TO REUSE ALL THE ANIMATIONS. They are giving us 50% and calling it a day.

Imcdthjtesu8v good

>Shaping up to be one of the worst console releases yet

Literally how

If applied to most other scenarios he would be right.

>A healthy work-life balance
What's next, trying to achieve gender equity in hiring?
Tough work conditions keep out the Rebeccas.
Being efficient with your assets is a good idea but you don't want your work to be too comfortable.

Imagine a zebra

Made you picture a zebra bitch

Tweet is 100% correct. You've got a hundred valid reasons to criticize Gamefreak and Pokemon, but reused animations isn't one of them. How embarrassing to pick the weakest argument available. It makes you look really, really desperate and harms you're own valid points.

Nobody had a problem with Amie animations until it was time to shit on Swoosh

Worst pokemon console games**

i understand you're upset but can you prove it's not one of the worst?

Wait till you hear how many Pokémon you can get in Colosseum

There's nothing wrong with "defending" a company, if they're in the right.

jackie chan

Didn't gamefreak say that there were less pokemon because they were working on better animations or something like that?

oooOoOooOooOOOOOO BASED, I LOVE PAYING $60 + TIP FOR A MOBILE GAME
WTF YOU GUYS DONT CARE ABOUT POOR OVERWORKED DEVS? THEY NEED OUR MONEY BROS CMON

Attached: 1567895777750.png (665x800, 54K)

Isn't Death Stranding coming out in like a few months? There's no way Pokemon is going to be worse than this.

Fucking retard bro
Gamefreak clearly said that they were cutting the pokedex because they didn't have the time to model/animate all 807 pokemons. It has been proven countless times that they are recycling those fucking models and animations
They fucking lied about it, that's the problem

Also, it's fucking pathetic that they're recycling almost everything from a fucking handheld game. This is supposed to be a fucking $60 CONSOLE game for fucks sake, why does it look like it has less budget than the shitty $40 handheld games?

>reuse animation because why would you spend the time/effort to reanimate something
>reuse models because you want to future proof them for the next 5+ years
>but they still cut content
what did they mean by this

>You've got a hundred valid reasons to criticize Gamefreak and Pokemon, but reused animations isn't one of them.
When they cut Pokémon out of the game and claim it's because of new models and animations, yes it is.

Attached: 1419001264156.jpg (225x225, 12K)

>reinventing the wheel
wat da fug

>Reusable code and the same animations from 6 years ago
The code should have always been reused, as should the animations.
What they should NOT have done, however, is NOT add more animations. Some tweeks like proper attacking animations for 'mons (why can they not give a kick or claw swipe for some pokemon?)
We don't ask that they give us some next-gen animations, but to at least give something of substance so that moves like Double Kick don't just result in your pokemon doing a little fucking hop in the air to insinuate it attacked.

I see all that cooming has affected your reading comprehension.

reusing animations is fine if they're good
reusing animations is fine if you don't cut pokemon with the excuse of making new high quality animations
the point is that neither is true

haha i really don't know

All Pokémon have special/physical animations, double kick and other multi hit moves are just little hops to save time and add suspsense for be player seeing how many times it’ll hit.

It doesn't matter because this "defense" of Gamefreak is just a strawman of the opposing side. They know this but don't care. Fallacy is a weapon intended for the ignorant. The ignorant don't care about truth, only emotion.

If you’d done your fucking research you’d realize there’s a reason in particular people are mad about the recycled animation, retard.

the problem isnt that theyre reusing shit
the problem is theyre saying they arent, yet clearly are

I swear to fuck if this game sells well I'm hardware exploiting my Switch and never giving Nintendo another cent

the game's sells will still exceed their expectations

Dude, LGPE sold stupidly well despite being almost as bad as Dash on the DS. This shit will sell 20 millions minimum
Better start bending that paperclip user

Bruh it's Pokémon they could fucking shit in a box and call it Pokémon shit box and it would sell millions

>Yeah it’s normal for a company to reuse assets

>Just look at smash and call of duty

Neither of these explanations are pinpointing that Gamefreak’s past excuse was being held back by handhelds only for their first major console game to have the same garbage effort, and think they can charge you $20 extra

LGPE was a remake of a game that already got a remake, stripped out more content, and came out on a pre-Smash install base and it still sold 10 million.

I already have my jig ready. Just waiting for the word. If it gets good reviews I'm going to help hack my friends switches too

And of course, the dude looks EXACTLY like what sonybros meme'd.

Attached: 1531335231741.png (1024x719, 806K)

What a joke. Are people really saying "its fine if the Pokemon look like shit"? The Pokemon are the fucking reason the damn franchise exists. They're the main, central, key part. They SHOULD look good.

Attached: giovannilolwut.jpg (400x300, 88K)

Deluded nincel

People were fine with it when there was the assumption that there would be all the Pokemon. Masuda saying it culled them for graphics is what caused this debate.

Twitter trannies will defend pikachu taking a massive shit

"Bro pokemon has never had good graphics"
Actual thing my friend said to me.

>implying they're not caring more about the girls's designs than the pokemons lately.

Isn't "crunch time" a serious issue though?

Yes, it's why video games tend to be poorly made. All the top guys say fuck this and go into other industries for half the hours and double the pay.

unironically fuck devs

Now if only they'd reuse all the assets instead of just some. Or used the saved time to make a good game.

Problem isn't reusing assets, guy in the pic is saying that Game Freak is doing it out of concern for it's employees, which we know is BS

Is there a name for a fallacy where someone gives a half truth to convince someone they are all right?

Why have people taken a complete 180 with this game? A few months ago people were shitting on this game left and right and it seemed that for once Nintendo fanboys were willing to criticize a game but now everyone's eating game freak's shit again. Did something happen to make people want to defend this game?

Most people turned off by the culling just stopped paying attention.

>reuse "future proof animations"
>can't add in all the fucking Pokemon because "muh balance."
Kill yourself, Gamefreak shill.

I wouldn't call the defenders of Gamefreak "people". It's more like Game "journalists" and their mindless NPC zombies

Yeah they saw people sperging out and replying to every Nintendo and Pokemon tweet with
>"GAME FREAK ARE LITERALLY HITLER, RISE UP GAMERS #BringBackNationalDex"
and got incredibly jaded by seeing the faggots screech at people and accounts that aren't even capable of doing anything.

>company is successful
>"hurr that mean they evil"
imagine thinking like this

You guys are overreacting so much that people are turned off by it.

how can you be a grown man and still not understand the difference between a contraction and a possessive? you learn the difference in the second grade.
fucking christ on the cross.

Lie of Omission.

Honestly the detractors have been so annoying that people are buying the game just to spite the toxic behaviour coming from this loud but tiny group.

They can reuse whatever they want, just don't fucking piss on me and tell me it's raining. Don't say that you're removing all the Pokemon for better animations when in actuality you're just lazy

You guys know that the "we cut Pokemon so that we can make everything better" shit was just a lie, right? Here's the real reason:
When they were still early in development, they entirely planned to bring every Pokemon back as usual. However, when they saw the success of the "everyone is here" advertising in Smash Ultimate, they realized that they could pull the same rosterfag shit with Pokemon. It will make the internet constantly alight with shitflinging over who is "in" or not, constantly keeping the upcoming release in the public eye.
Of course, this will culminate 3-4 gens from now, when they announce the Pokemon version of "everyone is here"

Attached: 1537379035146.jpg (543x558, 28K)

I just hate this narrative they've made that GF said they reworked every single thing from the ground up and that's why they can't get all the Pokemon in. It's obviously a ridiculous exaggeration of what was actually said in context.

I love how not a single person defending this ever has a counterargument whenever someone points out that pokemon is a multibillion dollar company, as well as the highest-grossing media franchise on the planet, and that they have no valid excuse to not hire more animators/coders/designers when their dev team is so small

just do it bro
you have too much faith in humanity

>japanese workers
>having a healthy Work/life balance

Attached: sad Abe.jpg (720x517, 48K)

Pokemon died once they went past 151. It should have been put out to pasture after that. Instead they decided to get it the best medical money can buy and take a page from fluffy gore fetishists and take it for all its worth until no one can stand to look at the living mangled corpse anymore. I hope all you nu-mon fans are happy about what you have done, Feed the beast.

>buying something poorly made you don't care about so the company will continue making it shit to own the actual fans of the game
Wasn't this just the same thing that happened with that last Star Wars? Why is this suddenly becoming a thing?

So this is where were at. Shills are going to cry >"but work/life balance!! Think of the poor devs!!!" every time a company makes a blatantly lazy/cost cutting decision, and nobody is going to give a single shit about this genuine problem in a years time because all the shills cried wolf too many times.

I don't really want to shill gamefreak because I have a fuckload of issues with them but I do kind of understand that more detailed battles are kind of a double edged sword. I know Masuda has touched on it before somewhere but it's mostly done to keep battles well paced, and to not slow them down to a scretching halt. Because with Pokemon it's a game where you're normally on equal footing with your opponents so pacing works different from other JRPGs. I also think they're afraid to have a system as slow as DPPt again. Personally though I'm sure there's probably a good middle ground that Gamefreak just really doesn't have the time, or the care to look into. They're really fucking lazy, and Masuda is a terrible spokesperson. Also fuck Gamefreak for lying about focusing on animations.

It's like these Pokemon defenders just cannot hold two thoughts at once in their heads, the people are complaining about the shitty reused graphics because GameFreak made those same graphics the justification for cutting half the content of Pokemon Sword and Shield.

That's just happening because american game devs hate it when you point out their laziness and blame it all on "crunch" and tell you to stop bullying them for making shit, and for whatever reason people are accepting this and defending them. Luckily, Japan doesn't give a shit about the lives of their employees so bitching about crunch won't save them.

Why shit on someone if they're excited for sword and shield? Just don't buy the game, you don't have to be angry at someone else.

Nobody was demanding better visuals until GameFreak said they were cutting large amounts of content for it.

It's one thing to sacrifice one for the other, another to sacrifice both and falsely claim you're not actually doing that.

>Hey you know all these animations for each individual pokemon we made that took a shit ton of time

>yeah

>Well throw it out, and let's use our resources to redo them all from scratch

>ok perfect idea

Imagine thinking a series needs to make new assets for everything for every game otherwise it's "laziness". Pokemon is an egregious example, but still.

I fail to see how talking about it means we're shitting on anyone.

If you consider people having different opinions a personal attack then you're welcome to leave for Tumblr.

Actually it's funny really. The re-used graphics, and in general the new Pokemon models all look fine. The issue is entirely the environments. They don't mesh with the art style used for the trainers and Pokemon at all and it creates this awkward, weird clash where you feel like you're looking at two different games. So you have these decent nice celshaded models next to a jagged ugly mess of a rock and tree and it's uncanny valley. The lighting is also really uneven and ugly. I think there was an interview where they talked about how they focused entirely on how the game ran in handheld mode and that's such a garbage excuse since most games can handle seamlessly switching between handheld and docked.

>Your damn right

Stopped reading there. If you're not educated enough to know the difference between your and you're then your opinion is not worth listening to. May as well have his profile icon be a little kid stuffing glue up his nose.

Attached: 1567182955014.jpg (2048x2048, 469K)

>Well throw it out, and let's use our resources to redo them all from scratch
That's literally what they claimed to have done, stupid.

Companies have been doing this very thing for a long time. Make a mediocre game, piss people off, have those people piss other people off. Profit. Works every time.

Imagine being this illiterate in current year

Imagine talking about something when you don't care to understand its underlying context.

Nobody was complaining about the reused assets until GameFreak falsely claimed they're not reused and that "making so many new assets" was such hard work they had to cut half of the pokedex out for it.

you're*

>because they were working on better animations or something like that?
Yes, and it's hard to make giant Pokemon and cooking animations.

>It's one thing to sacrifice one for the other, another to sacrifice both and falsely claim you're not actually doing that.

Almost makes you wonder how much outrage they'd be if the visuals matched Luigi's Mansion 3.

>reusing models and animations for 6 years from a 240p console in an HD game
>for the most important part of the game
I could understand that maybe for a sequel on the same console but this really doesn't apply to this game.

>it's hard to make giant Pokemon
Props to you user for making bait so good I had to actually reply to put into words how dumb this is.

THEN AT LEAST GIVE US *ALL* OF THE REUSED ASSETS

WHAT POSSIBLE FUCKING REASON COULD THEY HAVE FOR NOT GIVING US ALL POKEMON OTHER THAN GREED AND LAZINESS

Why do brainlets not understand why the Pokemon cut was made?

Why wasn't this shit brought up when Dark Souls reused the same animations, sounds and more over and over? Why did it get a pass?

No bro they didn't reuse the models bro didn't you see they updated tyranitar's texture? Ignore the copious amounts of reused shit pointed out you just got BTFO'd kid

The models aren't really a problem, they were made future-proofed from 2013, each model has about five times as many tris in them as any regular 3DS model of similar visual complexity, they are good enough for HD with a bit of retexturing, in fact this is the reason the 3DS game run so poorly during battle, there's a crazy amount of polygons being rendered for a 3DS, it's what makes this situation all the more egregious, GameFreak justified the huge expense of making this high-poly models for X & Y to Nintendo by saying they would be useful for eventual HD games, and yet they're expecting us to believe they tossed them and made new ones? Not to mention that there's plenty of videos and inforgraphics showing that they're indeed the same models from the 3DS being used in Sword and Shield.

>and keeping a healthy work/life balance for the devs.
How fucking stupid can you be? This doesn't effect their work/life balance, it effects how many devs they hire. The company will push them however hard it wants regardless of how many there are, and hire enough goons to meet their quota regardless.

The wireframes for the models were very above what the 3DS was capable of, which is what caused the 3DS games to have such godawful lag in the first place. They're on par with what a Switch game normally is.

They retextured them and I think they's fine. They're really decent models it's just a matter of how you texture them in the end, and they can be adjusted overtime to improve as needed. Pretty much ever piece of the franchise uses them at this point. Like if I'm not mistaken the anime staff even used them as a base for the CGI movie models in the Mewtwo remake.

>Healthy work/life balance
> doesn't realize Japan has one of the worst work cultures in existence
Why are twitter people always so fucking retarded? How do people get this way?

Because, and this has been explained like a thousand times already, there's a specific context to this situation in particular, GameFreak made the visuals the excuse to cut half of the game's content, so naturally the following question is: "Then why does this game look exactly like Sun and Moon?"

Pretty much this, and retards do it all the time. It's like when a game has legit issues but Yea Forums just screams about niggers and trannys, thus harming what valid points there are an giving people an easy deflect from any real issues being brought up.

marxists think consumers and employees are separate entities

>they's
Shit. They're*

>"Then why does this game look exactly like Sun and Moon?"

It doesn't, people are nit picking stupid shit like "he said new models and he meant the models were updated!!!111"

By being on twitter 24/7, shrouded in their echo-chamber.

>"Then why does this game look exactly like Sun and Moon?"
This isn't the case at all user
Sun and Moon had an actual reason to be graphically gimped

Attached: bvgpi33z75531.jpg (1200x1200, 137K)

But he did say new models, and no, the models aren't updated in any way other than remastered textures, they still have the same amount of tris, the same wireframes and skeletons, the same animations and the same UV maps.

Except in this case people are pissed because Gamefreak gutted the Pokedex claiming it was due to the new more advanced animations and then proceeded to use the same fucking shit they've been using since the 3DS games. No one cares that animations are being reused, they care that animations are being reused while Gamefreak is stating that they're improving them.

To anyone who isn't autistically nitpicking minor details updating the textures is changing the model, colloquially when somebody refers to the model they mean the graphic in its entirety.

If they didn't want to do proper animations for all the pokemon the least they could've done is given proper attack animations to all the more 'headline' pokemon people are going to see. Starters, legendaries, gym leaders' signature pokemon, etc.

Go play with Let's go Pikachu, faggot.

>ThInK oF tHe DeVs!!! xD

I get what you mean but they could've done new animations for the moves that are just the pokemon spinning around in the default pose or remodeling some of the shitty models like Tyranitar or Typhlosion.

jesus, no wonder people are shitting on the game.

It's funny how the fags that go on about resisting capitalism will defend shit like the biggest fucking media franchise being lazy fucks

How come all Nintendo fanboys are literal manchildren?

Attached: 1561052808840.png (1080x1350, 2.89M)

Most blue check mark twitter fags who bitch about capitalism and american consumerism spend the rest of their time sucking off disney and marvel. Capitalism bad but my mega corporation friends would never exploit me just for money.

I have no idea who is to blame, GF for having people think they're incompetent, TPC and its faggot CEO thinking all about money, merch and mobile faggotry while not using said money to make the core games the best they can be, or both because their stupidity reaches new heights when they are combined. I seriously think Pokémon needs to depend less on media.

It's funny because in terms of brands, IPs, and franchises the two parties have very much switched places in the last few years. The left practically worship these companies and their media franchises to a point where it's their entire identity. They are the brand, and as long as the brand is feeding into their shallow needs they're happy because their entire self worth is built into these franchises. The party that once prided more intelligent media is now really just enamored and obsessed with kid franchises. They call out capitalism overall while feeding into it because really a lot of younger people only care about what these companies are doing to push social talking points. They're also very surface level and they only really see things in emotions.

Meanwhile you see more people on the right pushing for quality while in the past they were the ones that were more likely to enjoy really dumb amped up action movies with no plot or structure and were the first to drop the "It's just a movie" line in the past. They also tend to be the ones who push against bad tentpole movies for dropping the ball, and wish to hold companies responsible when they deliver a bad product.

And those two things clearly don't cover everyone but it's just something I've noticed more recently and it's kind of an odd thing. I don't even know where the switch even took place but I'd put money on Harry Potter.

Imagine giving a shit about some other guys opinion lmao

But amie animations are good.

Honestly I'm sure Gamefreak could deliver a good game if they weren't tied down by the mass-media aspects of Pokemon. Pokemon is a very well oiled machine right now in terms of scheduling and deadlines and the only part that can't keep up is Gamefreak. Gamefreak also really wants to branch out and do other things to a point where they're starting to put their less experienced newer staff members on Pokemon titles while some of the older staffers work on new stuff.

Nintentoddlers are infantile and Nintendo is their parent/God replacement.

It was either Harry Potter or MCU.
