AC is a fundamentally different project compared to Bayo, and the proof of concept of an alternate approach to your usual PG title, under the tutelage of Kamiya, but not under his direct control.
Essentially, the people working on Bayo 3 are still working on it and never stopped.
AC didn't impact the workload at all, it was a separate project with a separate development plan.

Alright, I was gonna make one. Noobie here be gentle with me, I'm playing 1 for the first time and getting my ass kicked a lot, currently in chapter 6 or 7. Any tips besides 'git gud'? Like, what weapons are more effective, should I just use the normal guns, the sword..? I was having more success with the claws in the last enemies.

Dodging is the most important thing, so get good with it, also, learn dodge offset

I know how to dodge, I just feel that my button mashing combo skills aren't so effective in the damage dealing. Like, I found some of those places where there's a mission to defeat the enemies in 5 or less punches or something, I don't know how to do that.

Dodge =/= Dodge Offset. If you're in mid-combo and press the dodge button, normally you'd need to start a new combo. With Dodge Offset, you can continue your combo after dodging by holding the attack button to shoot/charge as you dodge and then pressing the next attack in the combo. Try out the timing yourself.
The important things to remember for those special missions is to hold out your attacks for extra damage and learn quick combos that end with Wicked Weaves. PKP is a good one for starters as it does decent damage with most weapons, but others may work better for your personal style or weapon choice.

Forgot to tie it together. Those special missions are there to reinforce Dodge Offset as a habit. It lets you avoid hits and you keep your "progress" mid combos as you work towards the Wicked Weaves, which along with sustained fire/charge attacks are your bread and butter for dealing damage with a limited number of punches and kicks.

Kamiya isn't directing again, right?
He's never directed any sequel to his games yet.
