>every dungeon has shit treasure

Actually played a game that did this

Invested into lockpicking and all the chests had trash in them

>except that one treasure you decide not to spend 2 minutes traversing the map to get which ends up being the god spear of destiny+2
They always sprinkle 1 good thing in a mountain of shit

what was that chest even for, then

>3/4 chests are mimics
fuckin DS3...

[obligatory post about opening a chest in an ancient dungeon and finding modern day items and or food that should have gone bad because LOL dude real world logic in video games xD]

>open chest
>it stays open and empty for the rest of the game

>Open chest
>Blows up
>Still getting money

>There's another 3 chest in the room
>They're also empty

>go to dungeon earlier than normal
>chests have better stuff inside them

>refuse to open open chest
>loot inside gets better

>Game changes your class without your consent

>lockpicking is a skill-based minigame
>you can unlock a level 100 chest with only a level 5 lockpicking skill if you’re good enough

>Treasure chest just sitting out there in the open.
>Notable equipment upgrade or some other valuable item.
>Treasure chest hidden behind a complicated puzzle only accessible after clearing out the entire rest of the dungeon.
>A low tier healing item or a pittance of cash.

>it’s a mimic
>if you beat it you get something good

The best feel.

>Open a chest
>It's empty
>Because you opened it now, an awesome item won't be in it later.

Fucking Chrono Trigger.

>Game has mimics
>Mimics are easy and consistently drop better loot than most chests in the game

>open chest in dungeon
>it's empty
>upon further inspection there's an herb inside

>Open chest
The guy who opened it is poisoned and promptly dies in seconds.
>Open chest
It blows up and kills everyone.
>Open chest
Guy who opened is paralyzed. have to spend a bunch a gold to cure him.
>Open chest
A poisonus gas cloud fills the room, everyone is poisoned then dies.
>Open chest
The alarm goes off alerting all the monsters of your presence.
>Open chest
Teleported to a random location in the dungeon.
>Open chest
Mages turn to stone.
>Open chest
It's actually not trapped for once, how nice.

Old RPGs were so much fun.

ff12 fuck that goddamn spear

>be in open world
>see small crevice on the side of mountain
>run into it
>fight 20 goblins
>get to chest
>its a potion
this shit pisses me off to no end. dragons dogma has way too many little hidden areas with dogshit rewards. just tell me right now, are they worth exploring? will theybever be something good in them?

It has been a long time since I played, but I thought DD chests were RNG. So they may or may not have great items in them.

That was variable manipulation to get the spear to appear in the chest.

Getting the spear the actual way was different.

I don't blame it for that one, that was nerds doing math to abuse the system.

>FIGHTER1 has been decapitated

Owning a box turtle is against the law so I'm reporting you the the fbi

That's interesting, I was always told that that was an intentional design decision. It's just RNG manipulation?

>open chest
>get nothing because you already have 99 of those status recovery items

ITT: Gamers who think they're the only adventurer in their RPG world.

What do you even get for beating that superboss? And the robot? What do you give as a reward for beating the hardest bosses in the game?

Also, I always found that amusing, putting a superboss in a chest.

Oblivion.
Ayleid Ruins had the loot, caves seemingly only existed to grind stats.

>Teleported to a random location in the dungeon.
Teleported into the wall, killing everyone instantly.
Ha ha! Gotcha!

They are somewhat rng. Some are fixed and the rest have a range from meh to great

>open a Yea Forums thread
>it's a twitter tranny screencap

>open chest
>npc has already looted it

>Inside, you find a smaller chest
>I...open the smaller chest
>Inside, you find an even smaller chest

>dude theres like way too much ammo and items in this game
>Its dumb that when you get hit, you can just eat food and suddenly heal instantly
>"why yes I would love having zero items, and instantly dieing. In fact I would love waiting a month for my characters bones to heal"

hot

just turn your brain off lmao

>lockpick chest
>"You find a key to a chest"
WHAT FUCKING CHEST
THE CHEST I JUST OPENED?
WHY WOULD YOU LOCK THE KEY INSIDE THE CHEST YOU NEED IT FOR?
OH, IT'S FOR ANOTHER CHEST?
WHERE?
WHICH ONES?
AM I GOING TO HAVE TO CARRY THE KEY THE WHOLE GOD DAMN GAME, ONLY TO FIND OUT AT THE END I WAS SUPPOSED TO BACKTRACK TWO CITIES FOR A CHEST IN THE VERY FIRST AREA?

>Chests are filled with garbage
>Mimics are obviously different from all the other chests and contain disproportionately good treasure inside compared to all the other chests in the dungeon combined
>You're thus conditioned to avoid all of the regular chests if only to save time
>Final Dungeon mimic drops the synthesis recipe for the ultimate weapon
>one of the parts necessary is permanently locked off now and was in one of the chests you most definitely skipped on your way through

>dungeon is full of chests with absurd levels of currency
>first chest maxes out your wallet
>open another chest
>wallet is already maxed so you don't get anything
>chest is now empty
>instinctively open chests, and finally learn to stop opening them
>later on, one of the chests actually has an important item you need

It's a shame with Oblivion, because that minigame was so much better than the same one they've recycled since Fallout 3
I'd rather just go back to RNG picking and then maybe add some brute forcing options that leverage other skills

>GO THROUGH DUNGEON
>EMPTY EVERY CHEST OF THE CRAPPY LOOT INSIDE

>RETURN TO DUNGEON 2 WEEKS LATER
>SOMEONE REFILLED EVERY SINGE CHEST WITH DIFFERENT CRAPPY ITEMS

You get a really good weapon out of the chest Shinryu's in. Other than that no, you just get a bragging rights key item from each boss.

Right, MONSTER HUNTER?

Good for collectionfags. I've saved so much time with the store

>Open chest
>tits come exploding out

When will they make a game with actually good lockpicking, pin tumbler locks, cylinder locks, disc tumbler locks, tubular pin tumbler locks etc with varied arsenal of tools to tackle that shit

>open chest
>"you have too many of this item, let's save it for later"
>actually puts it back in the chest instead of it just vanishing
Any other game do this besides Twilight Princess?

Pretty sure Tales games do this.

>open chest
>and vegana

>Chest is already open
What's the fucking point?

>buy the most expensive weapons and armor in the town before the next dungeon
>find the same weapons and armor for free a few minutes into the dungeon
>you can only sell the equipment at 1/3 of the original price

Whats the point of having the option to buy this shit if you're still going to give it away in the immediate next part of the game?
