I updated to Win 10 a few months ago. That shit is absolutely not worth it.
Sure Win 7 may have more vulnerabilities, but then again, I didn't update it since 2017 and never had any problems with malware. If you have basic security like an adblock and an up-to-date browser (which mine wasn't either btw) the risk is rather low to catch anything. So as long as new software and games run on Windows 7, there's actually little reason to update.
Just make sure to have a backup of all your data in case something does happen.

yeah I just got windows 10 for a custom build I just put together (I had to buy it because I use it on a business network occasionally) and I have to say the UI on W7 was far easier to navigate, though that may just be because I've had 10 years experience with it. I'm going to give it a month before I make my final judgement but I gotta say so far it's been a rough transition

You can download the ISO straight from Microsoft. Use Chrome and change the agent so the browser thinks you're using a Mac and it'll let you just download a clean ISO instead of the silly creation tool.

A note to anyone who uses this - I'm a sysadmin, this is using whats called Key Management Service (KMS) to activate Windows. Typically used for an environment to save time for activating hundreds of PCs at one time, the "keys" used in that image are just placeholders. Windows recognizes them and will then reach out to a server for activation, that server being what's in the second command after the /skms. Just know your PC will need an internet connection at least once every 180 days or hope that server stays online in order for Windows to stay activated.

Microsoft is now at the point where they want users to stay on the dead and abandoned 7 because it means that they can keep users for whom the PCs as an open platform matters, and argue to publishers that open platforms are dead, and too "fragmented" to be worth investment. They know if they rendered 7 completely obsolete tomorrow, issued the Windows 10 update to new systems on store shelves tomorrow that made them Windows Store Only by default, and allowed devs to start requiring Store-only mode as DRM they'd lose tons of users to open platforms.

It sounds like you haven't actually used a Linux distro and worked with the GUIs available. People ask for help online and get command line answers because they're nearly universal, working regardless of the desktop of the user, and they're far less cumbersome to communicate. Here's the command, here's what it does, here's why it does that. Is far simpler to communicate than "Do you see this icon, click on that, you should see this now, no you're looking at the wrong screen, click on this other things, etc etc ad nauseum. Its not that you can't use the GUI, but that for many tasks GUIs are just simply not efficient.
Its why the big new feature Microsoft touted for Windows 10 was Bash command line, and why even Apple rebased on BSD to get the UNIX command prompt. Because it works and it saves people time and headaches.

If you want a Linux GUI, that can do everything for you check out specialty forums for end-user focused Linux distros like ChromeOS, Elementary, or SteamOS.
Most Linux distributions, even ones like Ubuntu or Mint are focused at power users who want the power of using UNIX

As much as I'd love to run linux as my main desktop environment, I will never do so until all my important productivity programs work on it as well as games NATIVE supporting it. I do not want to run through some kind of emulation or abstraction that cuts the performance down some noticeable % just so I don't have to add microsoft domain names to my router's firewall.
W10 is currently the best in terms of performance and compatibility so that's the one I'm using despite the usual M$ bullshit that we've dealt with fine since 95.

I've had more people asking me to install 7 on their 10 machines than ever. I must have installed at least 400 loads of it this quarter alone.

You have to understand that investors only care about getting as much money ASAP so they can blow it on child sex slaves, drugs, cults, and a fourth vacation home. Any vision for a company, a product, or society is beyond them unless it engineers them to make them more short term money, no matter if they perish afterwards. Not even executives are concerned, companies mostly hire new execs from the execs who worked for companies that went under (and their own family) so there's zero drawback to running a company into the ground, you'll just get hired by another one afterwards. Should just work in Wine/Proton, the compatibility layer is at least as good if not better as the one Microsoft still includes in 10 when it comes to older Windows titles.

You can always run Adobe's stuff in a VM if you can't kick the habit. Which IMO is the only way you should run Windows 10 so you can prevent its direct access to network hardware.
