if so which was it?
Has a video game ever genuinely disturbed you?
Any slightly scary game.
I do not handle that stuff well at all.
ffs even the original doom games creeped me out and made me afraid to turn around the corner
Yes.
why, my p
Omg stop making threads with this pic it gives me the heebie jeebies
no but a movie has
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of Lake
I live in 3rd world shithole, nothing scares me more than reality.
that game adapted from the grifter
una vela
I played Arx Fatalis as a kid, and it scared me shitless, both with moment-to-moment horror and true existential dread. The game has hints of extreme violence, subtle but horrifying. It's implied that the goblins you casually interact with for the first third of the game eat humans aside from traficking them, uncanny as fuck. Also, the ratmen caves and Akbaa temples have these mummified, bloodied rolls that can only be corpses with extremities removed that disturb me to this day.
Fuck you user
[spoilers] I had finally erased that fucking face from my mind, why do you torment me like this? [/spoilers]
nice spoiler tags
yes
i can't finish the hospital level in afraid of monsters
Cry of Fear is the least scary game I've played but it is the only horror game that has gotten me to actually feel disturbed from what Andreas was going through when making it.
HellMOO when an admin teleported to my character and facefucked them and then made fun of me in some public chat
i was a wee lad and it wasn't fun
could you elaborate on what Andreas was going through during development?
>mfw Flood levels when I was little
I'd only play the first two missions because I was so scared of the Flood
The forest in the night of San Andres gave me a lot of anxiety for some reason
It's all kinda hushed up a bit because he doesn't like going over it but at the time of making Cry of Fear he was really depressed. Simon is literally a self-insert of Andreas and many of the locations like the college, lake, and the city are literal areas that he took from RL for the game. They even made an IRL trailer of Andreas walking around dressed like Simon in the IRL areas.
He cut himself and I believe that the texture for the viewmodel arm is of it, but I'm not sure of that one. I am certain that his arm at the time was used as the arm texture of Simon cutting himself in the Community Collab custom campaign that he worked on. He basically was the only one really working on CoF for a long time as he was the main mapper, asset maker, etc. Really put a toll on him. The pain sounds are him hurting himself and recording it. He'd punch himself in the gut or cut himself for the sounds. I remember hearing somewhere that he considered suicide at some point.
Don't worry about him though, he's good now and has worked at DICE, Overkill, and is currently focusing on his band and possibly making another game or AOM remake.
tl;dr Andreas was in heavy stages of depression and self-harmed. He good now.
damn, that's some pretty heavy stuff, it's good to hear that he's doing better now though. thanks for giving the details though user.
No problem, also gonna mention that it's assumed he's pretty much done with CoF at this point. He hasn't updated it since it got on Steam and hasn't even added in new donators to the game's ccredits or fixed the issue of if you play for too long in one session the graphics, sounds, and more fuck up a bit.
They were working on a sorta-remake/remaster of AOM with CoF as a base with the main reason being multiplayer, but Sven Coop adding support for AOM killed the project in 2016. They said they'll look into either a complete remake of AOM from the ground up or a new project entirely. It's been 3 years since then so no ones really sure they're working on anything or not.
Check out Andreas' band Intig. They make sad metal music. youtube.com
Did Candlej-
this fucker from metroid fusion got me to stop playing the game until years later
The way that Chinese people treated non mainlanders in ARK Surival has always disturbed me and because they didn't view any of their own as human on any level I no longer view them as human either.
The darkness 1
Theres a section of the game were you have to kill mobsters inside a boat, if you go to the storage room you can find a dismembered-burned corpse laying on top of a matress inside of one of the containers, the thing that disturbed me is that the game never tells you to go there.
The number cave in Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass disturbed me. Mainly because it caught me off guard. The game also has elements that remind me of my own nightmares, which helps.
What the fuck is this picture and why has it been popping up on here every few days recently? I'm intrigued and couldn't find shit from reverse image search.
it's from a creepypasta
wasnt this thing a boss in other M?
It's actually from a spanish facebook group that inspired the creepypasta
killer7 genuinely disturbed the hell out of me.
same, fellow american
feel you buddy
You should make a horror game.
The best horror games are made by people who are scared of everything
Seriously, the monster designer for the original silent hill games, Masahiro It, is a total scaredycat, hes said so on twitter.
The only game to actually give me a nightmare
it was the chase scene with the red light at the end of the haunted mansion
I just had flashbacks when I read Candlejack, tha
The way that Chinese act in any grindy online game is horrifying, most of the time in rust the last words you'll hear if you make the mistake of playing on official is the endless chanting of "CHINA NUMBAH ONE!"
This. I was expecting a cheap watch, got a really interesting story that kept me up the night of watching. The cellphone scene is what really got me; I was super invested in finding out the truth and that scene just totally swept my legs.
Not this again, i hate candl
This, but the scene with the mirror instead.
you didnt even type his whole name retard get back in here you not-dead son of a bitch
Several moments from vampires the masquerade. That ocean side hotel of course and mr gimble was a creepy fucker.
that one got me too, but i knew about that long before and it didnt personally scare me as much idk why.
I think i had the nightmare before i played sh3, but that scene reawakened it. plus it scared the hell out of me while i was playing, too. nearly had a panic attack hearing the sound it made
Now it makes sense why I thought Simon was such a huge whiny autistic pussy throughout the game
people with manic depression and psychotic episodes usually aren't very charismatic user
The gore in the Rising Storm games.
It was assassins creed freedom cry. The whole idea of saving black people from being slaves traumatized me. I had to quit playing and get therapy for the PTSD it caused
I don't know if i'm a huge pussy but that first encounter with the Librarian in Metro 2033 made me fucking panic the first time I met it. It sorta came out of nowhere. I had to pause the game to calm myself down. Then it wasn't so bad. I've never had that happen to me playing games before.
youtube.com
Looking at it here and it's not even scary
I don't even know.
delicia
Horror are scary and creepy but this is the whole point. They want you to feel and scared and you know that.
Real unease and dread happened to me more in when it wasn't done on purpose.
>backtracking through a dungeon in Oblivion once you are done exploring
>complete silence and stillness since you killed all the mobs
>only the atmosphere music
>feeling something behind you
>getting lost in those samey corridors
>that feeling of relief when seeing the light of the entrance
Going out of these dungeons was definitely more scary than going in.
Same with GTA San Andreas and the empty stretches of nature outside the cities.
Creeped me the fuck out when night fell in game.
unironically C&C: renegade
google visceroids from that game
There aren't many games where basically all hope is extinguished from the get go. Humanity is over, at best you have a few more years until your battery runs out.
that really fucking scared me as a kid holy shit
Basically the entire Bioshock demo
based
Yes
what's with all the rapey undertones in this game?
the ending was awesome i felt inside
>youtu.be
Because it's a game about creepy rape undertones. Not much more to it than that in terms of complexity
>undertones
All but 1 of the villains explicitly wants to rape Fiona, and that last one just wants to steal her uterus.
>No Tane Tane Island posted
Everyone's here.
Everyone's here to laugh at you, spit on you, and make your life hell.
Who's everyone?
Everyone you love.
There was a mod for Oblivion that added really fucking well edited ambient ghost sounds to Ayleid ruins that I had to go into the mod files and edit them to mute.
This game is the most fuckin shit I've ever played. Playrooms gave me nightmares for several years, holy fuck.
mah nigga. I play this every October, perfect Halloween season game. It has such an overbearing, dreary, bleak atmosphere.
Also couldn't go to this location at the nighttime, it scared the shit out of me
youtu.be
the part in Phantasmagoria where you find a human head in a plant pot fucked me up for a few days
shit... yeah this.
Simon's VA is a good champ who still does Simon for custom campaigns, but he kinda sucks as a VA
As a kid playing Halo CE, 343 Guilty Spark and the Library fucked me up so bad.
>takes off afro and becomes a blood god
The first zombie cutscene in Resi 1 fucked me up as a child.
That movie sucked.
found a picture, though it's far less creepy than i remember
Half-Life 2 Ravenholm, the squeaks the black headcrabs make still freak me out.
gave me multiple jumpscares too
This fucking place, specially with this music youtu.be
I miss gorespam.
based
>that drastic shift in tone in the demo
Pathologic
3rd playthrough and i still dont know what the fuck is going on
>one moment you're killing a coked up mcdonalds mascot who thinks he's god, and all of his followers who praise for their daily nuggies
>the next you're killing the shell of your dad as he raped your sister while your surrogate daughter defends him
what a rollercoaster of a game.
>he still doesn't know
I always have trouble with that bit where you need to try to open that door on the subway tracks.
Honestly, that pic of some woman in the shadows with staring eyes and a massive smile is spookier
SOMA is about the bleakest situation I've ever seen depicted in any story, aside from maybe I Have No Mouth
>maybe
Come on, dude.
this but when claudia eats the fucking fetus, fucking disgusting shit
I Have No Mouth is incredibly bleak but it's also really fantastical, AM is a literal machine god so it's not particularly believable
SOMA on the other hand seems like something that could actually happen
I really wanna buy this one copy of the game off of Amazon that has a confirmed signature from Harlan himself. 300 bucks.
>300 bucks.
That's gonna be a yikes from me
Game Boy Camera
fuck this shit, the music, the fact it pops up randomly, fuck man
seconds apart
woah..
I haven't been scared or disturbed by a video game since I played Dead Space, that game set me straight for some reason, is there a way to fix this ?
This game here really got me back in the day. Having these ghost coming at you in frist person was a insta-nope.
no because I'm not a faggot
There haven't been any good horror games since Dead Space 1 so no
Aom remake sounds nice!
>I'm a man yeah i get all that pussy
Go back to highschool you fucking nigger.
resident evil 3s opening cinematic scared the fuck out of me when i was a little kid. nightmare fuel back then.
This game over screen scared the FUCK out of me when I was like 5. I would turn off my tv during the loading screen before it.
More like Monster-Cock
It was this guy for me.
Watched videos of people playing it and 99% of them get hit and act like he came out of nowhere when you can clearly see and hear him coming towards you for a good 3 seconds before he hits.
The way they move and the sound they made was the scariest shit i had to ask my brother to beat the level for me
I don't think it's possible for video games to be scary. I always ask people what the scariest games are and they always name garbage like Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Fatal Frame.
I downloaded Hatred and had to uninstall it after like 20 minutes because I felt bad.
also going underwater in most games will at best make me feel uncomfortable and at worst give me a small panic attack
wadanohara
yeah that squid/octopus from splashdown when you went too far out of bounds
fucking this. I had a cousin who let me play their cracked version of halo 2 and the voice that you hear in the beginning creeped me out
I only found the village on my second playthrough. Didnt explore it til the 3rd because those psycho mutants gave me a bloody heart attack
This, fuck that small praying girl in FF3. You know the one if you take picture of her when she is praying, the screen goes white like normal when taking a pic but the fucking bitch is there right at your face. It was great and at the same time horrifying.
The one vault in fallout 3 really got me good, the one where you hear whispers and shit. I lived in a pretty bad neighbourhood when i played it and couldnt tell if the sounds were coming from next door or from the game. I dont read about games before hand so i had no idea there is a place like that
how has this not been posted yet
The Wally fight is also terrifying
I feel like most people who get hit the first time face a lapse of certainty. As it screams and plummets down, the player thinks "Wait, there's no way this is happening, right?" because the having a ridiculous, dive-bombimg baddie in a serious game is really out of left field.
Children and full blown babies being enemies in Dead Space 2 is the only time I felt a vidya game not only make me genuinely uncomfortable but genuinely shook me. I'm usually fine with scary games, hell the rest of Dead Space wasn't so bad for me. But that scene with the crying mother trying to comfort her dead baby now being used as a vessel for an alien parasite gave me legit nightmares.
It doesn't help I'm an early childhood educator.
One of the early deaths in the first Corpse Party seriously creeped me the hell out
Thanks to spoons I was already aware of the sound of metal knocking against teeth, so I was able to empathize with a horror game bad end (getting scissors shoved in your mouth to cut out your tongue) much fucking more than usual
