>Finally start playing Yakuza after years of putting it on hold. >Start with 0, really enjoying it >Later find out that many say this is the peak of the franchise and that its all downhill from here.
Is Kiwami that much of a drop? I know its a remake of the original PS2 game so some warts is to be expected.
Yakuza is the series of diminishing returns. Kiwami is shit, 3 is shit, 4 and 5 are okay but there is a lot of tedium and story bullshit in them, and then 6 is fucking terrible. It's really not worth playing so many games which are all so long only for so little payoff. They're only really suitable for players who have literally absolutely nothing else in their lives.
You're lucky if you manage to finish even just 0 without getting bored. But remember, the others are all far worse.
Owen Price
I recently beat this and Idk how anyone else couldn't have gotten their fill of this series after that. Good game, but I don't need 7 more.
Carson Cox
Kiwami 1 is average but it’s not bad you just have to sit through it to play Kiwami 2 which is as good if not even better than 0 It’s definitely worth it but i would reccomend playing every Yakuza game few months apart preferably a year but I get that it’s a long time for some people so few months will be ok If you’re going to play these games after each other you’ll get bored quickly because they pretty much all have the same gameplay
Landon Walker
It's true that Y0 is the best mainline. However, there's still one more game that you haven't played yet that is worth it...
Just gotta hope that it gets translated and ported soon if the 3-5 HD collection does well.
0 was pretty good, 2 was reasonable i strongly disliked kiwami tbhon
Jaxson Martin
>played 0 >Then played 6
skipping 1 through 5 was probably a mistake, but I feel like I had a good time
Juan Fisher
Yakuza 0 was good but it was so exhausting to play and watch cutscenes at points.
Aiden Cox
don’t listen to this brainlet, OP he’s probably a nintentoddler who has a PC with Windows XP and can’t play yakuza games that’s why he doesn’t want you to have fun either
Luis Ortiz
Each game is essentially a 23 episode japanese live action drama condensed into a single title. So yeah, obviously going all in one go is tiring unless you're incredibly gripped by the story (the writing is ok but it often has dumbass moments that are just badly written and hoy shit 99% of all female characters are written like utter trash too).
Tyler Gomez
0 is easily the best one and still gets boring and repetitive before long
Christopher Barnes
Was there any reason to ever use anything besides Majima's bat?
William Adams
>he didn't play him almost exclusively Breaker Style >some of the most satisfying combat in the entire series Do you hate fun or something?
Can I ask why? I'm about to start this after I finish days gone and I've kinda had my fill with how shallow that game is.
Nathan Martin
0 is the sweet spot for gameplay/story/presentation/sidecontent/ect. It is simply the best. 9/10
Kiwami 1 is a 15 year old PS2 game but with 0's combat and graphics. It's fine if you treat it more as a dlc epilogue than as a full fledged sequel. 0 is just that much better. 7/10
Kiwami 2 is also an old ass PS2 game, but with Yakuza 6's graphics and combat. It has some very hype bosses and the second best story in the series behind 0. 8/10
3 is ok. 6/10
4 is ok, and has some really neat secondary characters. 6/10
5 is ok, has some really fun side content/mini-games. 6/10
6 is ok, but Kiwami 2 basically takes the framework from this and puts it in a much better game. As a conclusion, it wraps things up nicely and neatly. 6/10, bump it up to a 7/10 if you played all prior main series games before 6.
Judgement is a great spin off building off of the framework built in Kiwami 2 and 6, I'd say it is an 8.5 out of 10.
Yakuza 7 looks extremely inspired and is using a completely different genre of combat. Potential seems high for it to completely refresh the series, as long as entitled manbaby gamers don't throw too big of a fit over it being different.
You can play 0, Kiwami, and Kiwami 2 in that order and have a fulfilling and complete experience, then jump into Judgement for some fresh new stuff and consider trying Yakuza 7 when it comes out if it's your kind of thing.
Ayden Barnes
Ive only played 0 and what kills me about it more than knowing that the other games are worse is what they did to Goro. Gentleman Goro>>>>>>>>>>>pants on head retarded goro>plankface.
Owen Williams
0 is worth playing, but it's cutscene heavy and the combat is fun but pretty beat em up and repetitive. The story and presentation is very good for the most part. Story goes a bit off the rails towards the end. After I beat it I had no interest in going any further with the series, the game has plenty of content if I ever got the itch again.
Juan Wilson
I do not understand the direction they went with his character. I get that he got tired of being told what to do, but going full whacky crazy guy who doesn't care was so stupid and his character was way more interesting before.
William Taylor
congrats you don't have autism
Jose Sullivan
oh I have autism in other ways, I'm just not a glutton for punishment
Jack Torres
Are you guys retarded? "we live in a society" Goro was the original one, not the other way around. 0 was a re-work. Yes, in the context of a prequel, but still written AFTER the other games. So it's not "the direction they went in", they just went back and gave him a fleshed out background story.
Thomas Rivera
Few months ago started playing 0, got to chapter 5 or something and saw that kiwami 1 is on sale so bought that too. Soon after got bored of 0 and never even launched kiwami 1 despite it sitting in my library for like 3 months now.
Matthew Harris
Yeah, the way they tried to make him seem obsessed with these two or three guys who didnt give a shit was really forced. Especially since he had such a strong sense of responsibility and pride for his profession. Its like they dragged another character entirely for thw last scene in the game.
Lincoln Parker
I realize that but the switch in character is so jarring, it's not a slow believable transformation over the course of the game.
Juan Collins
I honestly feel kind of bad for the Yakuza dev team, they seem really talented but also really held back by the baggage of the Yakuza franchise. They have a hard time coming up with new ideas that can fit into the series. Which is why almost all the best games are quite disconnected and standalone from the rest of the franchise.
The fact that 7 is turn-based really feels like a "OH GOD PLEASE LET US DO SOMETHING ELSE" from the devs. I think it would be cool if they could make something that's just a completely new IP with no strings attached, even Judgement had to be like "DON'T PANIC ITS STILL THE SAME SETTING"
Yea but regardless the zero goro is a better char than the original and a much better pc than kiryu.
Wyatt Jackson
what's the difference between judgement and yakuza?
Juan Brown
That's because most of Yakuza's writing has always been bad. This is the series where a guy simply walks out of prison by beating up all the guards. Same guy that once went into a reasturant with like 6 fucking guns, including one in his mouth, shot everyone there but WHOOPS TURNS OUT THE BULLETS WERE FAAAAAKE I mean yes, it's all hilarious, but you really shouldn't expect good writing from this series, it's like japanese TV junk food with some GAR moments here and there. 0's Goro is memorable, but even within the context of 0 itself, he does quite a bit of dumb shit that undermines most of the moments of good writing.
0 was my first Yakuza game and I understand the story is silly, but most of 0 was played pretty straight and I enjoyed all of the character development until the change in Goro.
Bentley Watson
>Is Kiwami that much of a drop?
absolutey not. Do you think Yakuza series was good becasue of 0 when 0 came out a few years ago?
Kiwami is a really good re invention of Yakuza 1 People who dont like Kiwami didnt really like Yakuza 0. Just just boarded the hype
Hudson Harris
Is this one of those insane difficulty jumps?
I have been breezing through 0 on Hard and I figured I could do the same with Kiwami.
Nicholas Wilson
>I honestly feel kind of bad for the Yakuza dev team, they seem really talented They've had over ten games to get combat right and instead of improving they were getting worse and now they've given up. Most dev teams don't get to try ten times, most dev teams don't even get to try twice. They are fucking useless. All they can do is assetflip and try fix problems by adding more problems.
Sebastian Jenkins
>absolutey not. Do you think Yakuza series was good becasue of 0 The Yakuza series was "good" because it was a niche series with an extremely dedicated fanbase that had their own idea of what "good" and "bad" means. Initially they intersected with Virtua Fighter fans and Shenmue fans. What OG Yakuza fans consider to be "good" is often lost in their own little circlejerk that has different rules than the objective gameplay, story and character interaction value of each game.
Not necessarily hating on the IP, just giving some perspective. 0 is so loved because it's OBJECTIVELY a tight, full, complete exprience that is enjoyable as a game even if you haven't been a Yakuza fan for years. And that pisses some OGs off but it's also testament of the objective quality of that game compared to the rest of them.
what a pathetic post and not a single counterpoint in sight
Christian Ortiz
Judgement is up there with 0, and to a lesser extent, so is Kiwami 2.
Cooper Perry
I've played 0, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 and 0 was much, much better
Jaxon Thomas
I disagree with all of those. Instead i see Ishin as the only other title that is on par with 0.
Oh and Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise is probably among the best in terms of pure combat system but everything else about that game is pretty terrible so it just stands out for a single element and isn't really worth comparing it to other, much more complete games.
Enemies with firearms could be the worst thing the devs came up with for this game. But then they decided to one-up themselves and turned this type of enemies into a bullet sponge boss fight. Add to that that they aren't getting staggered by most of attacks and you are, so you either have to find a way to cheese them (it's not that hard really, it's just boring) or stock up with healing items. Not the Amon levels of unfun but still a huge disservice given how story unfolds
Jacob Barnes
0 really is not different from the other games in the series. That's a lot of mental gymnastic when you could just say that the games don't change enough for you to bother.
Adam Smith
Based
Xavier Carter
>mfw I decided to beat Amon before actually beating Kiwami for some reason as a result the only annoying part was the fucking dual wielding nigger, I dropped Nishiki in like, 4 tiger drops
Joseph Parker
Kiwami 1 is possibly the worst Yakuza by far. Even the botched version of Yakuza 3 is better than that shit. Kiwami 2 is decent tho but is nowhere near as good as Y0. But to be fair both Kiwami games are just a pair of remakes of PS2 games.
Playing through Yakuza 5. Haruka is precious. Why the fuck is she holding a baby on the cover of Yakuza 6? S-she's still pure right bros?
Leo Clark
>little girl grows up surrounded by yakuzas and in shitty envroinments >surprised about what inevitably happens to her gee
Noah Sullivan
Agreed. Binary Domain was one of their best games and it had nothing to do with Yakuza in story or gameplay.
Matthew Adams
Oh man I totally forgot they made Binary Domain.
That game is fucking excellent. Gameplay isn't that special but the characters and pace of the campaign really carries that game.
Mason Hughes
In 0 gun enemies are okay because they can be easily dodged with Rush and well timed Thug dodges. They're rare too, so they're nothing more than a minor annoyance at worst.
Joshua Harris
I FUCKING LOVE YAKUZA 0 BUT GOD DANM IS IT OPTIMISED TERRIBLY, I GOT TO CHAPTER 5 AND THE CONSTANT STUTTERING HAS MADE THE GAME UNPLAYBLE AND THERE IS NO FIX I AM SO FUCKING MAD AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Logan Sullivan
Have you set your CPU priority to high for the game process? That fixed any microstutters I had
Matthew Flores
Yep done that, and went through the audio and graphic ini files and shit, did everything recommended and still non stop stuttering
Robert Richardson
I tried Yakuza 0, but it didn't hook me beyond the first bit, but Judgement is pretty fun. I like the noir aesthetic a lot, even if the combat is laughably easy. Kaito is such a bro..
Austin Flores
Kiwami was really lame imo, except for the final fight, it wasn't even that great of a payoff. There is something that feels really cheap about this game, I get that they devs/SEGA want to save money by reusing assets but fuck, even the Karaoke scenes were ported from other games or were just powerpoint presentation. Playing them back to back is a bad idea, especially if you intend to do everything. With Yakuza 0 I made sure to only focus on substories, cabaret, Karaoke, Disco and pocket racing minigames. Fuck doing shogi, mahjong and casino shit to 100%, it would just feel like a chore
