>Game rewards you with more challenge when you do well
>fair enough, but they don’t intrude on the rest of the game and at least they stick to one of two possible inputs
>escort missions done right

>they don’t intrude on the rest of the game
when was the last time you fought It or Krauser?

>>Game rewards you with more challenge when you do well
>life rewards you with more challenge when you are born a nigger
Nice argument.

>>game punishes you for doing too well
It did?

Punishes is a subjective term. The game has dynamic difficulty. It ramps up the challenge if you're doing well and gets easier if you keep dying.

I never noticed that, and I replayed it multiple times, kek.

Normal difficulty is dynamic as enemies are stronger and drop less ammo/beanershekels when you are doing well.
Professional difficulty is basically Normal difficulty at maximum dynamics.

Escort mission was fine, so was the difficulty

Most of the RE4 side is intentional to create a horror atmosphere

So godhand then?
Once again, the gotyay

max payne is so boring to play, having a meme dark comic story doesn't make it a good game

Attached: ninja gaiden.jpg (1243x1775, 225K)

I don't get why this keeps being spammed when all it does is reveal the poster as being a brainlet. RE4 comes from a horror game heritage, and as such is somewhat designed like a horror game. The only remotely sincere comparison to force in regards to RE is RE6 as that one basically is a TPS first and foremost by design.

>G*d Hand
>gotyay
Well eating shit is a fetish too, so nothing surprises me.

Attached: 381.jpg (501x891, 131K)

That's like comparing fruits (Resident Evil 4) to vegetables (Max Payne 2). Except that vegetable is not a synonym for faggot.

>real life analogy

>life rewards you with more challenge when you are born a nigger

Its only fault is that there's not more.

>half the game is an escort mission

Most of the time you can just stick Ashley in a bin and clear out the enemies without having to worry about her being killed or kidnapped.

Attached: Ashley Graham OA.jpg (530x900, 40K)

>you can't use your hands in football, this sport has extremely limited mobility
if anything in the GC version of the game you control ALL the movement with the left hand and control other actions with the right hand, which is peak vidya design.

Or you can give Leon the pimp suit and Ashley the knight armour and the game becomes a cakewalk in Pro.

Vanillaware is such a small company that they basically have to recycle content to pad their games out. It seems like they don't have the manpower and budget to do more, and it's evident throughout the majority of their games.

I hate the selective difficulty. Every moron on this board keeps saying 'This doesn't happen on Professional' but it still does. Keeps limiting you on drops if you do well too

I just want to keep it at straight hard with more enemies and less Crits but keep the rounds flowing

I’m at 4-2
When’s the fun supposed to begin?
It’s a fucking chore to get through, it’s slow and boring

At least there's Odin Sphere. I should really play Muramasa.

It's fun if you enjoy action horror games.

You might aswell stop playing. RE4 stops being fun after the castle.

Hi beepzorz.

It’s really really REALLY not. I’m not trying to be contrarian. I love all the other resident evils but I can’t fucking understand why everyone dicksucks this one. The story isn’t good, the characters other than the regenerator are boring. I always ask WHY it’s good and just get
>lol cause it’s good!!

This. I can accept adaptive difficulty in an pure action game like RE4 but the worst part is they couldn't get over it. Even more survival-horror-y games like TEW and RE2make had it, which is unacceptable.

Kys ign shill.

RE4 is overrated, but I refuse to believe that someone could prefer CV, 0, or 6 to 4.

I never said that, they’re not that good either. I like 2, 3, 7 and the remakes

>The story isn’t good
So like every RE game. It's a fun game that constantly throws new scenarios at the player, with enemy AI that perfectly balances intelligence without being too clever.

>I never said that
>I love all the other resident evils

>The story isn’t good, the characters other than the regenerator are boring.

In terms of gameplay, it is the prevailing standard for action horror. Did you enjoy games like The Evil Within and Dead Space?

K well I’m giving you specific games now bud

>fun
There it is, this dumb argument
>I LIKE GAME BREAKING FLAW, IT MAKES THING MORE CHALLENGING AND INTERESTING AND FUN
>I LIKE FEET, IT IS FUN TO IMAGINE SUCKING AT TOES
>I LIKE RNG AND BEING A NIGGER, IT MAKES MEETING COPS EXCITING BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER KNOW IF YOU SURVIVE THE ENCOUNTER
>I LIKE BEING INCEL, IT MAKES HAVING GETTING LAID MORE CHALLENGING
>I LIKE HAVING A NUT ALLERGY, IT MAKES EATING PEANUT BUTTER A WILD RIDE

You're thinking of FEAR.

Attached: fearAI.jpg (1956x1872, 545K)

Yes and don’t give me
>dey wur inspired by 4!!!!!
Dead space isn’t a slog to play through

4 isn't even my favorite RE by a longshot. It's very much a mid tier entry IMO. But it is a very well paced game that does what it does very well. Either take it or leave it I guess, same as any other RE.

>Yea Forums hates RE4 now
What the FUCK went wrong?

Attached: Resident Evil Tiers.png (1484x816, 675K)

They were inspired by 4, you having a hissy fit over it doesn't change that. The only thing I can think of that makes an actual difference is inventory management UI and the ability to walk and shoot at the same time, both of which are innovations that came after RE4.

I actually played it and formed my own opinion instead of trying to fit in with a board meme. Leon’s great it in, the game not so much

FEAR is overrated. The "intelligent" AI is basically just a couple more lines of code for scripted sequences. This is why the game has files with over 15 GB, which was ridiculous at its time.

No ones having a hissy fit sperg. Just because they were inspired by it isn’t going to make me suddenly like the game

>REmake
>good
>RNG crimson head mechanics
>good
I bet you like lootboxes too you EA nigger.

>FEAR is underrated
ftfy

>It’s a fucking chore to get through, it’s slow and boring
Sounds like you're not using a lot of suplexes and kicks in combat.
>run up to team of ganados
>shoot one in face, lower gun for option to kick him, knocking them all over
>knife the nearest one until he stands, then knife him in the knee, lower knife for option to supplex

If you're finding Resi 4 slow and a chore, then you're honestly playing it like a pussy and you probably aren't using all the mechanics to their full.

I dunno. Played it for the first time this year and I absolutely loved it. Game is great.

Or the controls are slow as fuck.

>it’s a meme to enjoy good games
You just sound like a fag, dude.

That's on you, then. RE4 is a well put together game overall - good progression, good setpieces, good pacing, good variety, good replayability, just all around good at what it does.

People complain about the dynamic difficulty but its one of the reason the game is so beloved in the first place.

The game quietly tweaks the settings in the background so that it maximizes excitement and minimizes frustration.

>literally THE hottest game of 2005
>underrated
wanna know how i know you were born this decade?

>slow
Literally how? When I first played it, the controls responded pretty well to my inputs.

>Ashley has similar health to Leon and doesn't die in two hits
>Ashley gets kidnapped after 5 minutes of being with you so you dont have to deal with her
>You can chuck her in a trash can to hide every other time
Larp harder

You have to play the Wii version.

It's not that FEAR AI is actually very good, it's just it's the best even though it's almost 15 years old. Only Stalker games have mobs with similar tactical AI but they are dumb in other ways(like jumping right into anomalies).

>FEAR is underrated
>automatic weapons can only fire in bursts, not semi-auto
>shotgun is useless at short-mid distances
>late-game enemie are bullet sponges
>REV6 Powered Armor
It is overrated at least.

I find it funny how there are only the same handful of FEAR .webms that are being reposted over the years. It's almost like nobody actually played the game.

I was honestly surprised by how well-designed Ashley was as an escort mission. She knows when to get out of the way of your shots, responds pretty well to commands, and doesn’t run off on her own.

The fucking boring, run, stand still, turn, shoot. I have seen people on this board who genuinely think that style is better than actually being able to move and shoot. Pure unadulterated contrarianism

Every single chart comparing two games like that is completely retarded. No exceptions

>someone took time to make this

>he complains about the crimson heads
wanna know how i know you're a casual?

I actually like the QTE's I think they really add to the game's charm and during gameplay they're always mapped to the triggers to dodge
They're nowhere near as bad as the ones in something like Bayonetta

Attached: Resident Evil 4_ffb943d2afd472a39268c83fe077954e1420875248-full.png (1070x469, 661K)

Move down 0 to D tier

>original RE above 3
>7 even close to being on the same tier as 3
>5 below 7
wrong

You get to choose between running away, or standing and fighting. it's a design choice, and you're within your rights to dislike it, but in my opinion being forced to choose between running/distancing from enemies, and confronting them heightens the tension and adds a layer of strategy that would be lost if you could run and gun.
What little tension the game as an action horror is partially derived from this.

>implying you can’t enjoy both styles
>implying that doesn’t add to the overall tension and challenge of the game
Jesus, man. This is just sad.

>this is sad
That you’re getting mad at someone having a differing opinion? Yeah. Pretty sad.

>Old good, new bad

Attached: NPC.png (636x773, 8K)

Yes, that's how RE worked, and was designed to work, before 2012. Every RE game prior to Revelations 1 played that way. Did you play any of those games?

An actually good tier list? What has the world come to?
Personally I'd move 7 to A tier because of how much I Iove the setting and camera

Kek

Already said I played them pal

>7 bad
>5 good
Shit taste detected

Nah, I’m just saying that you implying the game is bad because of a different design choice is sad. You can dislike it all you want but insinuating that the game is bad because of that is hilariously shallow.

>new good, old bad
see i can do it too. also NPC's are more likely to fit in with the hivemind mentality that the series peaked with 4, rather than the correct opinion that RE was ruined WITH 4.

If you had problems dealing with Ashley you're basically retarded.

Based

Then why complain when RE4 does it?

I will never understand why this game is so loved. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I was late to the party and played it after already having played Dead Space, a game that does the same formula objectively much better

7 would be A tier, if the game didn't drop the ball hard in the latter half of the game.

Because they have a good setting, good plot, fixed camera angles are different. 4 has that shitty halfway point for 3rd person movement where all the kinks haven’t been ironed out yet. I feel like I’m controlling a cripple who has to rotate his wheelchair every time I shoot

Not that guy, but it's a dumb way to make tension because it's a completely arbitrary choice by the devs and you have to really suspend your disbelief at Leon's inability to take a step back while aiming his gun. The RE2 remake does this much better, by significantly reducing accuracy and crit chance when you move instead of just disabling movement altogether while aiming.

I think the free Chris DLC made up for it though I didn't have to wait months to play it like most people

It's the same movement controls as past RE games but the camera is in a different place.

>objectively
Learn what words actually mean.
But in all seriousness, it’s just a well-designed and well-paced game all around. The guns have a great feel to them and are satisfying to use, the upgrade and cache systems are fun to mess around with, and the replayability is top notch.

It's more like the final third with the ship and mines I enjoyed everything up to that point even Lucas's puzzles

Zoom Zoom

And it doesn’t work. In my opinion. Like I said. I feel like I’m playing (and I am) a game that doesn’t use the 3rd person camera angle movement to its real potential. Not being able to back up or move while aiming doesn’t make it “more suspenseful” it makes it irritating and takes me out of the tension. I’m not expecting some run and gun shit but Christ let me back up

Nice argument limp wrist

Damn that's actually a good list. Usually when people make their tier list they're just shitposting. Also

>What the FUCK went wrong?

contrarianism for (YOU)s. This place is a hub for people to have social interactions despite their abhorrent social skills.

>hey notice how the horror shooter plays differently to this action shooter?

Dunno what to say then, 4's definitely designed with its control limitations in mind. I think it's more of a damning problem for 5 than 4, at which point they ramped up the action to a point where that control style started to feel inadequate. It's still fine in 4, though.

Don’t worry this doesn’t impact difficulty just every other aspect of your entire life

I thought it was good, I'm not hating on it, but the fact that it appears so often of people's top games of all times list, on both Yea Forums and elsewhere, is what I don't understand. Obviously everyone is entitled to their taste but out of all the games that are commonly on people's personal top 10s, RE4 is the one I don't understand.

How is it underrated, faggot? It was hugely hyped and popular back when it came out and people are STILL sucking its cock to this day. I love it too, but underrated it is not

Meanwhile RE4 has actually dynamics in its level design, thus making all those cons obsolete.

>RE 4
>”””””””””horror””””””””” game

I dunno about you but the Regenerators freaked the fuck out of me when I first played the game.

>any RE
>spooky

>It's almost like nobody actually played the game
Based schizoposter.

Maybe not really horror, but you always have to watch your step, since every enemy is dangerous. Every encounter pumps adrenaline into your veins and some people mistook the thrill of battle with fear, or so it would seem.
