The problem is Aerial Combos are pretty terrible.
Any fun "tech" I have is combining legion skills together, like Arm's Gravity Storm with Axe's 360 Sync Attack to attach a bunch of bombs to enemies that are forced to be grouped together.

The list so far, been pretty reliable. The hermit faceguard is pretty cool. Keep in mind that holomasks take up a different slot (faceguards take up the whole head) and are just holograms hovering in front of your face.

Civilian mask is that facewrap you see some folks wearing. The actual eyepatch (Not the bandage eyewrap) is in file 10, and yes it's the one Tabitha has on. You can replicate most of the Neuron team except Jin and Alicia and anyone else not wearing standard clothing.

Slimes are immune to gun damage. They only have 4 HP and melee hits deal 1 point each. Guns would kill too fast if they worked, most legion skills don't work either. Mashing ZL or using baton works best.

Because it copied Chaos Legion and expanded on it tremendously.

Kinda interested in the game, but whenever I see gameplay it looks visually confusing. There's so much stuff going on in the screen that I just get lost.

I have no idea why people compare V's gameplay to AC's gameplay. They're nothing alike.
V plays like a standard DMC character, only his gun / sword is detached from his body. It's a little imprecise, but I think he's a lot of fun. It plays nothing like Astral Chain, which more about sync attacks / directly and precisely controlling your pets.
I love V and AC, but I can't see why people say they're similar outside of the fact that they both use pets.

Astral Chain is one of the less complex ones compared to Bayonetta or DMC

AC is pretty focused and tight, there's not a ton of stuff going on at any given moment, but there is a lot of micro / things you have to remember

Weirdly the thing that makes V suck is in Astral Chain but it doesn't such with Legions. The problem with V is that he's pretty cool when you're setting up these puppet combos and it feels good to do moves, but to actually get SSS and do tons of damage you just press the Nightmare button. Nightmare just does his own thing and blows up the battlefield and you can't see anything and you get your SMOKIN' SEXY STYLE and it feels completely unsatisfying. Sure you can control Nightmare but it's terribly slow and feels awful.

That being said Astral Chain feels entirely different because you're not really going for combos at all, all you really need to worry about is positioning and activating skills, then you just play your character and try to set up opportunities for sync attacks and not die. It doesn't even matter that you're not directly controlling your Legion's attacks because you're worried about other things.

Because as different as V was from Dante and Nero, he still had to fit within some control scheme conventions.

I disagree with this, the biggest problem i have with V is how he feels borderline stationary compared to his familiars doing the work before dropping the cane hammer on weakened enemies, along with several moves from shadow and griffon being less responsive than they should be. The issues become much worse on DMD.

AC does it so that the player and legion feel in sync during combat while keeping the player more engaged with pulling off combos. Had V been more like that then he'd have way less detractors around him whenever DMC5's replay-ability is bought up.

Japan doesn't really have standardized prices for games. XC2 is same price as AC at 8618, FE3H and BotW are 7538, Bayonetta 2 and Mario Odyssey are 6458, etc.

Yes. I really like doing a Hit Rush, then switching Legions, then buffering the motion so that the Legion will do the attack immediately out of summon.

So you can do something like Howl, Hit Rush, then get behind the enemy and come out with ORA ORA ORA ORA and every punch will be a crit.

You gotta get a specific spot.
If its your first time taking the photo then just look for the box in the camera turning yellow with some question marks at the bottom.

I use some of the 360s and arrow's back+forward. I tend to prefer launching with back+forward+ZR than using the legion launchers though.

How long does it take for combat to click? I only played roughly two hours but it's been pretty miserable so far. Between the annoying shaky cam, screen-filling explosions and weak as fuck partner I'm not digging it.

The only electrical encounters appeared at the end of the game and in an optional fight in File 6 against the Chimera that merge.
Its handy for not getting damaged by the giant crystals but otherwise I think its a waste of a chip.

At the end of File 2 you have to fight the sword legion without any legions. you can use any of them that you have against the multi legion fight right after.

You don't have a legion in file 1 until the final fight.
In file 2 you don't have it during the fight with sword legion, but once you bind it, you get all your legions back.

Only decent set up I've managed with Sword is stacking time slow skills because he hits so often and his spinning sword move procs slow.

What's a CC? If you mean wearing the armor, then that's a death sentence in some of the later missions. Arrow legion hits often for consistent crits, and it's got safer sync attacks (the perfect dodge sync makes you invincible)

CC as in crowd control Gravity arm or whatever the skill is called

Arm has Gravity Storm, the last skill in its skill tree, prevents most enemies from even attacking you when it’s active

I'm on file 7 and I'm trying to finish this game but it just doesn't want me to. The pacing of the gameplay is just so fucking awful and there's so much focus on the godawful story. My personal favorite is Howl, Hit Rush, summon the sword legion, Round Sword, Auto Bind. If you do it fast enough, you, sword (with bonus round swords), and beast will all be attacking at once during sword legion's chain bind sync attack. It's hype and efficient since at least one of you is likely to get nothing but backstab crits.

I think the hard part about that boss is the final cube phase when he just punches you for all-of-your-health damage and his combo is insanely hard to escape. I don't know if you can roll it, but perfect calling with most Legions still gets you hit.

You can roll it but the i-frames on dodge in AstralChain are way fewer compared to most other Plat games.
The best thing to do on that boss is to use Beast Legion's multiple forms of invulnerability to tank the punch combos

They're not all shutter doors, but some are flat brick walls. But the basketball court isn't a thick wall, it's just a literal brick wall you can even see behind from the side. If you stare at a hologram wall from outside with IRIS on, you can see it shimmer sometimes, that's the tell. If you ain't got that, you ain't got a door.

Giving Arms super armor and a defense boost is great for using its Legion Ability, and giving Axe a speed boost feels almost necessary to me.

I changed Howard's outfit colors to be like the Joker's suit, giving him white skin and green hair to match. Blade Legion is EVA01, Arms Legion is Za Warudo, Beast Legion is Bladewolf, Axe Legion is default because Max wouldn't want me to repaint his Legion something other than standard police colors

There's a woman redshifting nearly blocking the hologram, I think the point was to shove your sword legion over there and see it clipping through the wall.

Hold up, that doesn't make sense since during this Chapter the entirety of Harmony Square has been evacuated, save for a few NPCs straggling cuz their friend/child was left behind.

Beast is great for defense when riding him since you're invincible and has an extremely useful skill in howl. But you really aren't going to be putting out the same kinda DPS you would with something like arm legion. And axes blue shields let you apply more offensive pressure while still being safe while you can't do fuckall while riding on beast.
Endgame you're going to end up swapping constantly to chain different legion skills together so best to get used to them all. Beast, Axe, and Arm were my go to for most things with Arrow being situational and Sword being used while arms skills are on cooldown or if I want some binds

Ranking in this game is weird
Its largely based on how fast you do the mission and how many cool tricks you do. Avoiding damage doesn't factor into it.

Ditto to that, there's no redshifting civilian in the part of File 09 where you can see the basketball court.

yeah and doing things fast just means you have less points from other things.. every time I've beaten a fight fast as fuck and efficiently as possible I don't get a s+ not sure why so many people on here act like going fast is the easiest way to S+ when it's actually a hindrance

If you're not far in enough to have your 3rd or so legion, don't worry too hard.
Ranking is based on how many different moves you manage to pull off in a fight, be it chain binds, perfect calls, and just generally scrolling though every one of your legions in a fight. Think of it as a DMC style meter, except your rank is secret until the end of the fight. Just mix up your moves enough and you'll get S+ easy.
Also note that taking damage doesnt lower your grade and that not using items only gives you a 500 point bonus, so don't worry about healing yourself.

The two things aren't mutually exclusive here. Killing fast doesn't mean spamming attack but efficient use of abilities and all forms of sync attacks.

Perfect dodge sync with Arrow does so much damage, holy shit. It practically invalidates chaining your hit rush combos or any flashy extended attacks, especially against huge chimeras with big hitboxes.

This game needs a sequel. It leaves plenty of doors open for the story to go forward, and I can easily see it in an open-world setting where you can happen upon investigations / cases while riding around on your futuristic motorcycle.

Good rule of thumb is if any of the Neuron staff other than Jin, Alicia, Olive, Brenda, and Yoseph are wearing it, you probably can too.

Just switch between Axe and Beast, and use the vendor drinks and energy spikes. As long as you keep howling and use the shield, it shouldn't be that hard. Also, use any drones if you have any.

Any would do. You should be primarily using Beast for his Howl to stop the boss's ability at any given notice. Maybe Speed Star for Axe, and whatever C7+ unique abilities for the other Legions if you had unlocked them, otherwise, Hit Rush is fine.

Platinum said they wanna do a tirlogy if it sells well enough, and according to them it's one of, if not the, best launch they've ever had.

Ranking is based upon how many different things you did in battle. The more variety, the better.

Most cosmetics are either from level ups or are secrets that you need to explore to find.

In most character action games, you get a pure platinum / s / s+ / whatever by never getting hit, killing enemies quickly, and racking up big combos with a large variety of weapons (aka getting an S-rank in each of damage, time, and style)

In Astral Chain, you essentially get an S+ by getting an "S-rank" in ANY of damage, time, or style. If you take no damage, you get a free 5000 points, which is easily enough to boost you to S+ in most cases. If you win quickly, your time bonus will similarly be over 5000 points, no sweat. And if you're stylish, switch Legions and X-batons often, do lots of perfect dodges and stuff, you'll stack up a bunch of bonuses and get an S+ rank that way. Of course, you can mix and match these.

Basically, change "AND" to "OR". That's why the game's so easy to get good ranks on in comparison to other Platinum games.

Three main contributors to ranks for battles are:
1: Not getting hit.It's worth a whopping 5000 points if you perfect a combat case, but it's real hard to do that in this game if you're up against multiple ranged enemies.
2: Going fast
3: Using absolute every move and mechanic you have access to.

If you do two out of three of those things, you should get an S+

IIRC it boosts their auto-attack rate. Which I guess is ok early game but late-game you do so much sync attacks and shit, my Legions barely ever have time to auto-attack anyway.

First two chapters you can't do anything. Just stick with it. Your moveset actually becomes fuck huge eventually but they choose to lock half of your starting moves until you get to chapter 3, and then you get drip fed even more by unlocking more legions and by upgrading your baton and legion abilities over the course of the game.

I've rescued two of the Olive case cats. The missions with the other two cats won't fucking unlock and I want all the kitties to be safe.
There is no guide for the slime locations. I only have the ones up to File 04 so that means I only have shit colors.
I can't S+ anything past File 03. I go apeshit trying to score points with all my weapons. But I've upgraded my baton to the max and now everything dies too quickly. I need to Perfect Call+Sync Attack+full combo everything. But everything dies halfway through. The red case with a one (1) enemy kept giving me an A or an S. The Arm rematch gave me a fucking S after the slime fucked up one of my sync attacks. It's infuriating.
The worst part are the files/segments with shit starts. I don't want to keep rescuing losers from a burning subway. I wanna beat the shit out of monsters.
How the fuck do I do this? I want those kitties to be fucking safe. And I want those cool robot monster colors.

This was tough, it's not entirely clear how to unlock the quests you need. But basically you need to do R2 files until R2-8 and R2-B2 unlock. You do not need to do those last few in the astral plane to get it.

No, there's no demo. Combat is relatively easy, just don't expect to know anything until File 3, and actually do the trainings in the training room. I suck ass at action games and I'm managing just fine (after dying a bunch early on, haven't died once since File 4). Also don't get discouraged by D ranks, ranks ultimately don't matter.

It's on one of the last two chapters in the astral plain rescues, you have to cross a gap where a bunch of giant blocks try to shove you off the platforms. You go up some stairs, then use the top of those blocks to reach a corner on the right for a chest.

I wanna say it's the plain with a flying boss chasing the girlfriend, but I'm not 100% on that.

I give it about an 8/10. The only things I didn't like about this game was some of the platforming and how some characters drop out of the plot. If you want a game that's literally eva+jojo+police then you'll enjoy this.

It is not good. I find that I mostly rely on perfect call. In the cases where I do need to dodge, what I've found helps is if you plink dodge and parry. You can cover your dodge's start or endlag with the parry.

Regular helmet is colorable.
