It's a real fucking shame this was epic store exclusive and then had a fucked up windows store launch. The game is truly awesome: they made the areas the perfect size so that you could feel immersed in each one without turning it into Ubishit. It's one of the few games I've played in the last 5 years that didn't make me feel like I was checking things off of a list. The weapon upgrades and new weapons gave a steady sense of progress that rewarded player competency and exploration without resorting to grinding even once. I would say this is a near masterpiece in level design and linear story based progression. It's also easily the best in the franchise.
Gameplay was fun, but what really got me was the concept I love this kind of game where it's post-apoc, but industrial/military infrastructure survived for you to use using a train to traverse a post-apoc world is probably my favourite premise of any game to date
Jaxson Johnson
I really liked it, but it had a lot of problems too. The desert level was too fucking big, and killing/fighting mutants was unsatisfying as hell for the most part.
The first open area/level was the best and it never really got topped, I would also love to have seen a heavily layered/open underground metro area. Nonlinear design can work just as well in the metro.
Ironically for a game boasting about the openess, the most linear parts were the best in the game. Volga wasnt as fun as I expected. Caspian sucked. Forrest was good. Dead City was kino. I really missed the economy of bullets too. Story was great however, good send off to the franchise.
Is the windows store release still fucked? I could try it if I got a month of game pass but the last windows store game I played (forza horizon 3) fucked up when I tried to uninstall it and disappeared but didn't actually free up the hard drive space. it was a huge pain in the ass because of how MS locks their games up and doesn't let you access the files
Wyatt Torres
Only the first area and last metro area was good the rest can fuck off
>The game is truly awesome it's boring cinematic shit you fucking autist
Leo King
depends how fast your internet, it took me 1.5h to reinstall DLC is about 3h long, and very sad.
Josiah Perez
What's the problem with redux? I have it in my steam library but never played it.
Charles Gray
It’s really short but I liked it, really brought back the metro feel, also I wish the flamethrower was available in the main campaign
Joseph Moore
it's last light like gameplay wise throwing knives were top tier in original, aiming at neck of helmet enemies felt great, the only feature I truly miss in redux
Love it until after Yamantau everything after Yamantau is shit
Camden Young
Yeah losing the steam version really killed a lot of hype. Luckily most people were able to buy it before it got pulled
Andrew Martin
You are completely right, if this game would come out now that Epic controversy has died down it would sell 2x or even 3x more and it is almost a masterpiece. The characters actually had an impact on me unlike other games especially Anna. The enviroments, atmosphere and that DLC oh man now I want to replay it again.
Also I loved the volga map, as user said, they did a good job; isn't big enough to be a shitty ubi map but it still has enough ground to cover and things to discover without feeling staged. SOUL
the first dlc is pretty good but I would wait until the next for a new playtrough. According to rumors next dlc will be quite big
Austin Evans
Artyom being silent is real annoying in this game
Jack Ross
Volga is fantastic Caspian sucks major dick outside of the underground LL-esque scorpion/spider section which is only because of top tier atmosphere Ark is by far the worst part of the game
Taiga sucks if you want the best/good ending because it becomes 80% crouching for stealth and also there wasn't enough untamed wilderness with wolves. Its not bad like Caspian, but untapped potential. The Dead City is great since its basically just 2033/LL but again an annoying stealth section takes over too much. I did end up just sprinting past most of them because I was tired of it, and got lucky that I picked the right pathway
Yeah its not a huge issue in 2033/LL but it comes off extremely weird in this one because of you exploring and interacting with people more. I guess they don't have faith in the voice actor doing way more VO than he already does. If the current narrator would speak in game, I think I wouldn't want him speaking either
Ian Price
The Metro games are getting kinda stale. I loved 2033 and Last Light wasn't bad. Exodus looks meh.
Justin Campbell
>Exodus looks meh. this youtube mentality is what getting stale.
Grayson Williams
>Last Light wasn't bad opinion discarded, it was literally shit
Charles Long
>got OG metro Should replay it again >Д-6 amoebas oh no no no no
Probably the biggest annoyance for me is the big focus on not killing if you want the good ending. It's especially prominent in Taiga where it essentially turns into a crouch-walking simulator. Far too few shootouts with human enemies for my tastes.
Julian Gomez
>had a fucked up windows store launch what happened?
Jeremiah Campbell
Its the structure for me. 2033/LL are linear, regularly mixing slow atmosphere section right into a shooting gallery which clashes with the world. I really hate how the game forces some crazy firefight for no reason sometimes.
Exodus going above ground was very hit or miss, but going for an open approach with the Metro tunnels would be interesting. Let the player have freedom to progress story moments in multiple orders by going to different stations/towns with freedom to take dangerous shortcuts and multiple factions piecing out parts of the Metro for themselves.
Julian Gray
I really love the weapon system in this game
Austin Stewart
Why do people get mad about epic store exclusives but console exclusives are good and needed?
One of those things is possibly free and the other forces you to buy a 300$+ console just to buy the game and to add insult to injury forces you to pay for your internet twice for multiplayer.
Kayden James
it's only in taiga and only related to pioneers kids you can kill bandits all you want
Daniel Roberts
The dark ones didn’t talk in OG 2033 right? Hated that change in redux
Elijah Lewis
They talked at the end sequence
Ryder Diaz
that's what I was saying in winter. nobody cared because their favorite youtuber told them it's bad.
Josiah Rodriguez
Yeah but not through the whole game, really made them less mysterious
Chase Miller
What e-celeb was shitting on the game?
Xavier Walker
It's some weird cognitive dissonance, you can say "well games wouldn't be as good blah blah", oh yeah, we wouldn't have battle royals, remakes and such master pieces like days gone and red dead redemption.
Same thing with World War Z, it's literally L4D3 (minus pvp MonsterVsHumans) with good mechanics and well balanced . Mark my words when it will be available on Steam you'll see, many valve cum garglers will love it.
The ark really unnerving. I wish it was expanded and featured more exploration and stealth
Caleb Kelly
Really retarded technical problems. DX12only, borderless window only. Constant crashing. Game save progress and even game settings wouldn't save at first. If using HDR you have you launch the game, let it crash, then start in safe mode, then change settings again every time you want to play. No access to game files or the benchmark executables because of how Windows blocks folder access for apps. It's one of the worst windows store games and one of the best examples of why it's shit.
I actually had to cancel my gamepass and then pirate the game. I was all the way at the end in the dead city and had the railgun. I replayed almost the entire game but it was worth it just to get a regular install.
Ryan Edwards
Is it killable, non-killable boss enemies are definitely a cancerous new trend, at least make it nearly impossible to kill that's just lazy coding.
Levi Stewart
Those are not the same people.
People who like console exclusives are console niggers who need some fucked up social justification for their consumerism. People who get mad at epic store exclusivity are PC gamers who don't want platform wars and are now having it shoved in their face. It's also a shame since it's not like Epic store is just like steam but a different flavor, it's a genuinely worse platform and has way too much chink influence.
that's the thing, everyone liked the game but said do not buy on epic store or something along those lines
Julian Morgan
Really liked the final level, paddling through the flooded metro was straight out of the vault dweller's memoirs from fallout 2 >Within a dark and forbidding Vault, where the walls dripped with human flesh, and the screams of the dying echoed through the halls, I found many evil creatures and mutants. The deeper into the Vault I went, the more gruesome the journey. More and more flesh was to be found, integrated into the very walls. The worst part of it was that the flesh was still alive, and even aware of my presence.
Ethan Robinson
It's a two phase boss fight, you literally shoot it with bullets and kill it. Although I found it kind of annoying the second time round.
Christian Torres
>Why do people get mad about epic store exclusives but console exclusives are good and needed? I don't think any sane person (i.e.: PC player) has that opinion. Console exclusives are dumb as fuck but everybody into the industry should know that by now. The EGS is new and a slightly different form of that cancer; hating on it doesn't mean people are accepting console exclusives.
Kevin Davis
>high fov My nigga. 70° vertical?
Jack Cox
I got bored of it after an hour >press E to jump that small chasm >press E to climb that waist high thing >press E to open the door >press E to do this >press E to do that I liked 2033 and Last Light but I can't take this kind of stuff anymore, and the whole premise about people living outside doesn't interest me in the slightest and kind of goes against what I liked about the atmosphere. Going to the surface used to be something spectacular and incredibly dangerous.
Elijah Jackson
Ranger Hardcore in Redux was seriously cancerous. Never being able to see how much ammo you have? Can't tell which throwing item you have equipped? Mandatory fucking QTEs without any on-screen notification?
Wyatt Adams
I don't remember, i usually manually edit it to the point where the viewmodel doesn't go full retard
I miss the metro. The linear areas of the game were the best. 2033 (original) remains the best game in the series. Volga was okay and Forest was actually pretty good, but only really Dead City gave me that Metro feel.
Lincoln Powell
Only slightly related but I loved the boss fight against the giant shrimp in last light, ducking under his swings and blasting it point blank with the quad shotty was super fun
Christopher Harris
Because console manufacturers groomed their customers to become rabid fanboys. They don't even have to hide the fact that it's 100% anti-consumer when their customers are too busy shitting on each-other, they're doing all the work for free.
Joshua Gomez
Having people survive outside the metro areas and the rest of the world being basically fine was a garbage plot element and removed any semblance of tension for humanity's future from the story. Then again that element was already introduced in the 2035 novel because Glukhovsky couldn't stop himself from writing predictable social commentary on modern Russia.
This game is the ultimate bait: -Looks good -Stalker vibe -great setting
And they ruin the game that only the mentally ill can enjoy it -More cutsceness than a kojima game -Horibble voice acting -zero challenge, even on the hardest setting -Pacing of a 80 year old granny
If they even made something resembling stalker it would already be a 9/10 game
Kevin Sanders
>load ak74 with military ammo >1 shot them >revolver also 1 shots them Never understood how people had trouble with them.
Christopher Clark
>mad max desert land >crazy cult swamp with giant shrimp hordes >radiation everywhere >literally one safe area to live found >basically fine
Brandon Ramirez
>-Horibble voice acting >-zero challenge, even on the hardest setting >-Pacing of a 80 year old granny those all are stalker elements.
Isaiah Murphy
I meant outside Russia. All of Europe is still there, the US is probably fine.
Logan Fisher
>All of Europe is still there it's not? where did you see that? maybe india is fine-ish, but considering the monsters coming from the north it's fucked either way
Robert Brooks
I don’t think they ever talk about the state of the rest of the world besides acknowledging people are still alive there, they could have been just as bad off if not worse
William Edwards
everyone usually blow their entire load before that part, leaving people to run ahead of Miller to not make him run out the elevator to stab the spawners If only there was a wider wall of this
Moscow has the most concentrated ballistic missile defenses in the world. It somehow barely scraped by and had maybe thirty thousand people left alive by 2033. Somehow these European capital cities, which had zero missile defenses or extensive shelter networks like the Metro have people living in them? The only logical answer is that they barely got hit at all. Hell, they even managed to get long distance radio broadcasts working. Then why are the capital cities of Sweden and Finland not nuked? Europe looks like the area that's doing the best in the entire world, looking at the concentration of radio emissions. China and India have zero.
Caleb Murphy
>And they ruin the game that only the mentally ill can enjoy it >-More cutsceness than a kojima game >-Horibble voice acting >-zero challenge, even on the hardest setting >-Pacing of a 80 year old granny this
Zachary Walker
I agree for the most part, I really enjoyed it even though I played on PS4. The snow area was my favorite of the open levels though, it really reminded me of STALKER. The desert was too Mad Max-ish imo, but still fun. Trying to play stealth/pacifist for the good ending fucking sucked though, that shit is terrible design and unforgivable. 8/10 game overall, would have been better on PC but I didn't want to wait a year for it to release there.
Hudson Wilson
>It somehow barely scraped I don't think you understand how nukes work.
Last Light was trash and Exodus is easily better than that. On par with the first one.
Jonathan Scott
>Ironically for a game boasting about the openess, the most linear parts were the best in the game This is every game ever.
Jaxon Robinson
>shitty 40's Japanese wood & paper houses notice how the stone buildings are standing? Destroying the civilian leadership of the military and disrupting C&C is important too.
Jeremiah Ross
Those dlc missions on Last Light had SOUL. They really could make a good tv show or a movie just for them.
John Baker
>notice how the stone buildings are standing yea, that's my point. moscow is 99% steel and concrete city.
Sebastian Turner
Getting rid of these no spine politicians would make everyone a lot more happy especially with a nuke
Agreed. I hated Taiga. Especially because the boat part in the swamp village is actually impossible to stealth on any difficulty above the easiest, so there's no way to get the achievement for not killing and not being spotted. Terrible, janky stealth in general and drags the whole game down when the shooting is so fun and satisfying. Also, Taiga is additionally hot garbage because you get no weapons if you do a pacifist stealth run yet the game still throws a boss fight at you halfway through that is borderline not doable with just the crossbow. The devs were not thinking any of that level through.
John Davis
>Especially because the boat part in the swamp village is actually impossible to stealth on any difficulty above the easiest what? you did something wrong, it's pretty easy to stealth at night
Jaxon Bell
>The EGS is new and a slightly different form of that cancer; hating on it doesn't mean people are accepting console exclusives. I don't disagree that it is cancer. But I just see way more criticism of it in general just look up "are console exclusives bad" on youtube or any search engine, then just replace console with epic.
Alexander Hernandez
>EGS exclusive Nah, it was also sold on torrent sites so it didn't bother me.
Elijah Cruz
also you get weapons, what do you mean? stealthing also keeps you full ammo all the time
Jacob Price
Can’t you pick up weapons from dudes you knock out, or by pacifist run do you mean not knocking out dudes either?
Oliver Ramirez
>sold on torrent sites >sold
Justin Ward
that would be ghost run. and from what I remember there are some weapons laying about too
Matthew Collins
I don't know if my game glitched, but the part where you have to get out of the boat to open the gate, I would be spotted 100% of the time. No matter what. Nothing I tried worked at all. So I eventually settled, after many hours of trying, with just barely escaping after being spotted. Almost died but at least I didn't kill anyone.
You can't knock anyone out in that level if you want the good ending
Logan Morris
Not him but the first time I didn’t pay attention to the time and it’s awful during the day
Lincoln Kelly
>You can't knock anyone out in that level if you want the good ending you can. stop stabbing them. I knocked half level out.
Mason Edwards
Yes you can, I always knock everyone out and have never gotten the bad end
Zachary Bennett
unfortunately it's just as retarded in Exodus. The game is literally unplayable without a HUD. >come across a weapon >cannot tell if it has new parts or not >cannot tell if you're highlighting a body or weapon >press E and you swap your weapon instead of looting the body you thought you were looking at it's really atrocious.
[Пpипeв] Oт тeмнa и дo тeмнa Пepeплeтeнo A вoйнa, нy, чтo вoйнa? Кoль зaвeдeнo
[Ayтpo] *cкэт*
Alexander Martin
it's called steampunk i guess.
Luke Ortiz
One of the best single player FPS of the decade. Shame it doesn’t have any replayability
Kayden Green
World map could be better, too many long ass non-skippable cutscenes.
Anyone else had a thing in where you fight that bear boss the sunlight is so strong that you literally cannot see anything except some of your weapon? I had to rage uninstall the game because of that.
Jack Thompson
Like I said, EGS is new and discussing it gets clicks. and are right in that people don't have the same talking points about consoles currently because they've unfortunately become a shitty anti-consumer industry norm.
