Especially with all the characters not named Sailor Moon have been horrifying truncated in their character development
It's like watching only the plot-related episodes of Precure. Yeah, it moves along the story, but your missing out varying bits of character moments

one of my favorite things about a show that goes on for a billion episodes is how you can just tell sometimes then "that" guy was at the helm. Not even just in anime, there was a pretty stark contrast between most Kamen Rider Build episodes and the ones where Kamihoriuchi was involved as far as cinematography goes.

I am curious about Crystal but from what I know the manga storyline is horrible and my favorite characters (Michiru and Nehelenia) are complete downgrades from their 90s anime versions.

IIRC crystal was more faithful to the manga, but some of the anime-only stuff from the 90s show was really good and surpassed the manga stuff.
