I completed it all regardless to see what's what. It "colored" the game somewhat as the ?s often have tiny stories in them that kinda reveal more about the world and the quests near them. It is content, it's just not up to par with the rest of the game. You can clearly see it was made by the C team.

The problem is the constant feeding games do because of retards. An open world game that actually requires exploration and changes story based on the optional content you encounter and resolve would today confuse the audience because of the lack of 1000 markers telling them every step to take. So every fucking open world game is saturated with this completely useless shit just to create a false feeling of being filled with content.
Open world needs to be a part of the gameplay, not a mere place where gameplay takes place.

Also open worlds nowadays are way too fucking huge to hide meaningful narrative content while also giving you no guide to get to it.
TW3 isn't particularly massive as far as open worlds go but it's still plenty big. You simply can't naturally search every nook and cranny of the world. The Novigrad + Velen map is 15.2 square kilometres, not even much for a modern open world game. Now imagine trying to find a single pair of tracks that starts a questline in something that size.
Open world games basically killed their own main draw by focusing so much on sheer size and "open" design with huge traversable fields instead of the more classic "road and fork" design used by classic cRPGs.

I do understand the validity of the complaint about the POIs ruining the actual gameplay experience since they are on by default but at the same time I find it baffling that you people (casuals) don't bother turning stuff like that off before you start gaming.
I played through the whole game without any POIs and it was fantastic, exploring actually felt like exploring and I had a great experience
