Why are there no games set in Earth's distant past?
Like a Cambrian Subnautica or something.

Ya lemme float around as a trilobite, top tier game eating stones

The start of E.V.O. Search for Eden comes to mind but yeah like is saying what would the gameplay be?
Ancestors humankind odyssey came out recently and you start 10 milion years ago as pretty much a hominid but still the gameplay progression is lacking
so making a game where about sponges and trilobites that would be the other side of a Bass fishing game at best isn't that great of a pitch.

still you have Spore, species ALRE and Thrive is slowly being worked on.

Finally, a good fucking thread

>thinks the earth is older than 4000 years old because his teacher told him so.

I would love a game with a "land before time" feel to it.

I remember getting it from the first ape escape when I was a kid and never again.

were you there? :)

There is that recent Ancestor game that starts 10 million years ago.

Could be like Ace of Seafood with a more cohesive plot.

Is that a man riding a shrimp?

There was a magic schoolbus game that went pretty far back I think.

Yes, I was. However - you weren't; I know this because I was there.

Hey, I was there too. Remember how we invented death as a joke to prank underagefags?

Good times. They still haven't recovered

Earthworm Jim 2 had that one level where you play as a cave salamander

That's the closest thing I can think of

>still you have Spore
that one does not even count for the supposed attempt. spore makes me angry more for its representation of publishers ruining games than for being just not good.

Why was monster design so much better back then? What happened?
Is an asteroid really all that takes to make Mother Nature creatively bankrupt?

whats that big blue thing

If you had a time machine, would you risk almost certain death just so you could go back to the distant past and see what the world like back then?

Thinned out genetic diversity something fierce.

Here's a silly game idea: People use a time machine to send people back there naked and afraid to see how long they survive. You're being watched through a time tunnel and broadcast over TV to an audience that judges how well you do and give you points. Not that anything like that will help you, but you may get down in history as the one who got the most points this week and have five minutes of fame after your death.

I'll remember you when I became a millionaire due to your idea, user

It's because you're used to modern designs whereas old designs are a novelty.

Some of them are still around at least

It would be pretty cool to make a survival game based on the fossil record and mass extinctions, where you have to build and maintain a species to survive to the modern era.

>implying
