In Smash Wii U and 3DS, Mewtwo and Lucas were both trophies, long before either were announced/released as DLC. Stop acting like that rule doesn't apply to spirits just because we haven't seen it yet.

Given how Shovel Knight is an assist, Sans is a costume, and multiple indie characters are spirits, a fighter is inevitable and odds are it'll be a Spirit getting ranked up to a fighter.
