Is pic related a good GBA game? Want to know if it's worth adding to my ROM collection.
Someone Set Me Straight
Yes
that is one of the only 3 good KH games. that version too, not the ps2 shitfest. thanks for reminding me i needed to put it on my everdrive
Its alright but gets repetitive at times and the progression is fucked and boring.
Its also has the best Sora of all Kh games.
Yes. One of the best games in the series and is better than the PS2 remake.
Wow, I thought it would be the original that wouldn't be worth it. Thanks Yea Forumsros. Let's play some good GBA games.
If anyone else has good games for the GBA/SNES/Genesis/etc., feel free to list them
It's good, has beautiful sprite work, but the remake is better though. I'd play both but the GBA version is only worth it for historical reasons
I'll list some Genesis games since the system often gets overlooked for SNES. The Genesis has a lot more than these, too. Massive library.
Pulseman, Sonic 2, Rocket Knight, Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, Shadowrun, Shinobi 3, Toejam & Earl, Ristar, Phantasy Star 4, Ghostbusters, Mega Man: The Wily Wars, Gunstar Heroes, McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure.
Not unless you liked the other games, and even then it's not very good
Tbh, only played KH3. I just want more GBA games since I've played the "big ones"
Thanks. I'll make sure to give all of these a fair shake after KH: CoH
GBA:
>Superstar Saga
>Aria of Sorrow
>Advance Wars
SNES:
>Terranigma
>Gradius 3
>Tactics Ogre
>Tales of Phantasia
>Secret of Mana
Genesis:
this guy covered any games I would have put here plus more
Once again, thanks, bro. Was an N64 child, missed out on the 16 bit era, and never got a GBA, so I've been trying to catch up.
I've played the remake of Superstar Saga, but I've heard the original is far better, so I'm willing to go again
i went back to advance wars the other day and i cant stand it anymore. i dont know what i used to see in that game, but the magic is definitely gone. the FE games on gba have held up way better than advance wars
yeah its been a loooong time since I played AW and I skipped the gba era of FE. I'll take your word for it
I've heard so much good about the Advance wars. I'll give it a shot, but I'm wary now.
maybe start with the DS one?
Running these on the SNES Classic. Not sure how I'll be able to run DS games sadly
ah, nevermind then. just play Tactics Ogre or FE then. My only memories of AW are ancient so the other user is probably right about it not holding up well.
most importantly though, play motherfuckin terranigma. severly underrated action rpg always overshadowed by secret of mana
These were the FE's that were localized right? Or am I gonna have to find a fan translation?
the 2nd and 3rd GBA FE games were localized. I imagine the first has a fan translation
Thanks for helping me figure out my ROM collection. Good to see helpful folk still exist on this board
finding a rare thread without shitposting is the only reason I still subject myself to this website. Every other vidya site feels like a hugbox but at the same time 99% of threads here are insufferable.
It's pretty fun yeah, but I found the remake to be better especially with the changes they made to the second playthrough. Still worth a playthrough though.

Well, unlike most people my age, I'm trying to enjoy all of gaming. I love what companies are making now, but I also try to learn about the classics I was sadly too young to learn about at the time. And this board is occasionally a great help in finding gems not often talked about
As long as I'll have fun
It's still the best KH game.
Hopefully it's better than KH3. I was mega disappointed by that one
but old graphics = shit boomer game. cmon user, you know better than this
Nice bait lmao
You're guaranteed to have fun if you take time to learn the card mechanic, which isn't that difficult anyway.
Tbh, I don't even know what is up with the cards. I assume the combat is different, but I don't know how it works
its good coming after kh1
some bosses are annoying to fight without the right breaks ready
Pixel art alone is enough to keep it in your collection. Game is goddamn beautiful
Glad. Some GBA games look great, others just look like shit
using a card puts it in the middle of the screen and makes you perform an attack
if you use a card while an enemy has a card up, then your card will either bounce off and do nothing if its number is lower, or it will break the enemy's card and interrupt their attack with yours if it's higher and vice versa if an enemy does it to you (I forget what happens if it's equal)
an exception is the 0 card which can break anything, but which can also be broken by anything else, so it's good for interrupting attacks but not very good for launching your own attacks
you can also chain up cards into a group which lets you perform a bunch of quick attacks or a special combo that's usually impossible to break except with another card group or a 0
Oh so it's like a real time version of that one Mario Party game turning into a combat system? Sounds interesting. Can't wait to try it out
>adding to my ROM collection
not having them all already
I'm not gonna bother wasting my time downloading ROMs I'm not gonna play
It's great and it is also genuinely better than the PS2 remake.
Wario Land 4 is the apex of the GBA and the platforming genre
Its better then the PS2 version.
So what's different between this and the remake that makes the original the superior version?
It's a good game.
Do not get the PS2 version (aka the version in 1.5), it tries to blend KH1's combat with the card stuff and it does not work
Leave it to Square to fuck up a remake
Nostalgia and autism, that's about it
The PS2 version is perfectly fine.
It also has more cards, Sleights, room layouts, a new boss and a new phase for the final boss.
GBAfags will tell you it doesn't work in 3D. It does.
Well, unfortunately I can only play it on GBA, so GBA version it is
the entire combat system was designed around the battle screen being a beat-em-up format.
The original game was in 2D and you moved across an x, y axis with a simulated Z axis much like many classic konami beat-em-ups.
For the 3d game, they gutted KH1's battle system, and pasted the cards on, but the card combat only worked on GBA because of the system's limitations, as in 3D, battle arenas were boring, bland, and some fights were frustrating when limited to the card system. You can tell it was phoned in and done by a C-team for a quick cash grab. The cutscenes are worth a play alone but the gameplay is a slog. Not to mention some of the strange nerfs to the game for the 3d version, but that's made up in how broken the game is in other ways, like 0-frame or whatever the stop time slash was called. Hell, even spamming fire can win you the hardest fights easily.
Damn. I kind of wish someone would make a mod for 1.5 that restores the old gameplay with the new cutscenes
