In my experience you can with women and they will say yes and will even fuck a few times. The problem is that you can;'t really separate emotions from sex. Men can try and suppress easier than women. I just got the game like a week ago so I've just been learning on Frost and Hibana.
It's definitely a lot different than the other Socratic dialogues I've read so far (Euthyphro, Apology, Crito) and it also seems to be the longest one. Not bad so far but just different. Where do I go in Plato's work after this? Any recommendations?

I have his complete works and I'm just going in the order it follows since it has been taught in its order for hundreds of years. The order doesn't really matter too much although some share characters or happen in short time frames of each other (although the topic usually changes) so it flows better if you follow it right.

Those of you watching demon slayer, are you watching it for the story at all or just because the action and nezuko?

The overarching 'story' of the big bad demon guy isn't terribly original or anything, but I am quite enjoying Tanjiro et al as a protagonist and how he reacts to things and how empathetic he seems to be in general; that he's willing to share sorrow and offer kindness to demons but doesn't do the dumb shonen protagonist thing and try to avoid killing. He kills without hesitation if he needs to and that's kind of engaging for a shonen show.
The characters and action are all quite good but I wasn't honestly expecting much during episode one but I've kept on enjoying it the whole way.

What really got me into it, aside from picking a time to meditate and sticking to it, was to at least attempt to focus on whatever object you meditate on while doing other monotonous activities like dishes or taking out garbage. Speaking from my own research and experience with jhana, it's a couple of different levels. You attempt to keep your concentration on one mind-object for as long as you can, always returning your focus to it whenever it drifts. Eventually you'll feel a sensation of sorts called rapture, and at this point you shift your focus toward that feeling and its associated thoughts until you calm your thoughts and either enjoy the meditative bliss and quietude or place your concentration on something you want to stay focused on.

At first I started out on 3 minutes, with a buzzing alarm, then 5, then 10. Now I just meditate as long as I can in the morning before life brings me something else to do. I recommend you start out small, maybe do two or three short sessions, just to get the ball rolling because it's like most things where you need to build up the habit until it becomes a second-nature skill.
Scripture says to practice until you can achieve rapture and the other meditative states at any time, so I also try to rouse the sensations while walking, during conversation, and while falling asleep.

What's your favorite song or album? I have always loved how Jimmy Chamberlin's playing drove their music to rock harder. He influenced my drumming style a lot, honestly.

There are a lot of ways you can get into them, but I suggest thinking about what you like in a place, culture, and people, and then choosing a language to learn based on locations that fulfill those criteria. For example, if you like musical, chatty banter and chiller folks living in the shadow of a superpower and its language/culture, I'd recommend Cantonese or Irish. If you want family orientation and chill lifestyle in (generally) warmer climates, maybe try Spanish, Greek, or Italian. Want work hard/play hard types with good literature and technical skills, maybe do German. Obviously some languages will be much harder to learn because they're more esoteric and thus it's harder to find resources outside of a formal instructor, and of course certain languages are more challenging to learn if your native language is English because of complex grammar, phonetics, writing system, etc. But I've found that if the interactions I could get out of learning a language were compelling enough, I'd stick through the harder parts of studying.

I got lucky and fell into Spanish because it was always around me growing up in Arizona. I've kept up with it really hard because I insist on speaking it with friends and because I like the literature, the music, and the lifestyle in Latin American countries. Hell, I even liked Spain (although I was in Barcelona...but they were just happy that an American spoke Spanish, forget Catalan). The joy I've gotten from being able to listen to people speak naturally, in their native language, has driven me to keep it strong...

My Chinese has deteriorated because the pull I used to feel due to China's history and philosophy has been dampened by the specter of Chinese authoritarianism and the intensity of the surveillance state on the mainland. It's ass. At least there's still Taiwan.
I guess my point is, think in real terms about a place you'd want to invest a portion of your life in - traveling, friendships, relationships, even living abroad - think lucidly about the realities of a place, not just the stereotypes (i.e. Japan is not kawaii fun-land, it's hellish corporate slavery land and extremely conformist...but clean and well-organized for those reasons) and if the positives outweigh the negatives, you might have the makings of a place whose language is worth learning for you.
I can recommend some resources for you if you'd like.

to the topic of language, 2 days ago i began studying the book Japanese From Zero and ive committed the words for the numbers 0-10, and good morning/evening/night to memory. i want to learn this language kinda because it is the first one i thought to study and i like the way it looks/sounds. additionally, i just think Japan is cool. (i dont know much about the country.) i also want to learn it simply to prove to myself that i can(this being a big reason). to be honest with you, im a loser. never going anywhere so i guess the finer aspects of the culture dont matter so much to me as just what immediately appeals to me (samurai sword choppin, some anime, the symbols look cool/pronunciations sound cool..)
i have to admit im jealous of your understanding of the languages you know and the reasons you have for knowing them. maybe i will try to think more along these lines.
also, for most of my life ive not done much or listened to many albums specifically i just like songs that i hear when i do. my favorite song by smashing pumpkins is probably 1979.

Don't be so down on yourself. The great thing about choosing Japanese is that you have a ton of peers who have had the same interest over many decades, and so there are a lot of resources online. I've downloaded some great content from /t/ for language learning, Japanese in particular. Look out for threads there.
I'm sure you've already done this to some extent, but try watching anime in Japanese with the subtitles on in English, and really try to listen. That is, pick something you can watch multiple times, and pick out little bits of what characters say to memorize and learn. It's amazing how much we can pick up just from listening; after all, that's how children learn their first language. I can remember learning whole sentences of Japanese from Samurai Champloo because I just loved to watch so much, and all the little bits and pieces, like:

so desu-ne
the basic past tense conjugation for verbs: -ita [e.g. desu (infinitive, 'to be')==>deshita (past tense, 'was' kikimasu (to hear)==>kikimashita (heard), tabemasu (to eat)==>tabemashita (ate)] You just have focus your attention. It makes watching the show more pleasure, too.

I wish these threads were more frequent honestly but at the same time I know that would ruin them, they stay civil and full of replies/conversation because they're too spread out for anyone to establish themselves in any meaningful way if they were daily it would just devolve into avatarfags and bloggers jerking each other off and then devolve into the normal ironic shitposting, instead of people just passing through as they do now

trying out renowned explorers. seems really fun but I got fucked by the writing and now I'm a little turned off. I beat this big ass zombie and the game told me to revisit a village where the zombie had been wreackin havoc. it turns out that not only had I not visited that village (so revisit was a lie), the event doesn't work at all if you kill the zombie first. I completely blew my load on this working and got fucked. It's still fun though and I will continue playing.
