They've always tried to make them similar. Revs 2 Claire is ugly but at least I can see her being Claire. The only one that changed favourably was Chris but the new Chris has become iconic because he had a generic design in RE1 and CV.

I never had a problem seeing her as Claire. The graphics are so much better than even Rev2 that it's like this is the movie adaptation where they hired some real life actress to play her, like it's not that big a deal if she doesn't look exactly like the videogame version usually did. She did look different (younger) in original RE2 than she did in Code Veronica til Rev2, which is why they made her look so young in the remake
Classic 2 and Code Veronica Claire look nothing alike, they changed the shape of her face + haircut + clothes style. They used to model her after Neve Campbell and changed it to be Liv Tyler
