Start with 0. Yakuza is the series of diminishing returns. Kiwami is shit, 3 is shit, 4 and 5 are okay but there is a lot of tedium and story bullshit in them, and then 6 is fucking terrible. It's really not worth playing so many games which are all so long only for so little payoff. They're only really suitable for players who have literally absolutely nothing else in their lives.

You're lucky if you manage to finish even just 0 without getting bored. But remember, the others are all far worse.

Start with 0 then play Kiwami1-2, this is fine but Kiwami 1 is unbalanced because it uses 0's mechanics in Yakuza 1's levels and Kiwami 2 is bad because the OST is different and it cuts out some stuff. Also you'll feel the downgrade in both gameplay and graphics when you play 3 after Kiwami 2

Start with 1 on PS2. The only downside is that it has a bad english dub. If you don't have a PS2 you can just emulate it, the cutscenes have a slight ghosting problem if you upscale it too much but other than that it's good.

0 is the only one I have. I played about 6 hours of it, and am somewhere in Chapter 3 or 4. Honestly not sure if I'll ever load it up again. I sure hope you people that are always complaining about "move-games" aren't Yakuza fans, because holy shit...Watch 15 minutes of cutscenes, fight for 45 seconds, watch another 7 minutes of cutscenes, walk around for 2 minutes, 4 more minutes of cutscene jesus fucking christ

Yakuza definitely is a movie game but with an okay brawler in between, and a shitton of minigames all over the damn place as a distraction. It surpasses the usual movie game bullshit by actually having a game attached alongside it.

The only actual fun and technical fight I remember was against Nishiki at the end of Kiwami, which is a shame because the entirety of Kiwami 1 was fucking TRASH. Especially the retarded enemy spawn rates. Everything had superarmor and fucking knives. It was a horrible experience.

0 was just grug your way through anything, felt more like a musou than anything, nobody blocked, bosses did fuck all except all the badass Kuze fights. Still the better of the three.

Kiwami 2 had fucking retarded normal ass enemies that would just constantly block and superarmor with weapons and generally be a pain in the ass, all the bosses were dumb unavoidable gimmicky bullshit, but the cities themselves were fucking amazing and combat felt a lot more fluid overall, the character progression was better, graphics better. It's tough.

I was enjoying 0 until about halfway through. I realised the enemies were never going to get any more varied or challenging and from there on it felt like a slog. I forced myself to finish it in the end. Knowing that it's the "best" one I decided to leave the series there. And it sounds like Kiwami is even worse so I made the right choice.

I don't know what he's talking about, it does lose some charm when you record it because its not a flashy over the shoulder whatever cam zoomers are used to with soulslike games. Kiwami 2 looks a LOT better though visually. I only have a couple recorded videos (with audio) and I don't feel like reconverting the already trash compression without audio to post on Yea Forums
