I read something about the blue ones being cd roms rather than dvd

Blue discs are CD ROM
Easton Davis
Blue uses the cdrom format therefore when you extract them they have a bin/cue. The normal colour ones are dvdrom and have just a nice clean iso file. Later dvdrom games like God of War and gran turismo were “double coated” allowing up to 8-9gb of storage. Pretty darn impressive for the mid 2000s

This
DVDs couldn't read with dyed plastic
Blake Hill
Saves on storage and ram.
Blue is the most rendered color so by having all your bytes painted blue you don't have to render them anymore.
Charles Price
They're CD's with DRM, like the black PS1 CD's.
Jonathan Cook
I can download 9 gb in just over a minute
Justin Collins
This is the actual answer
The dyes were used to help consumers tell legitimate copies from bootlegs. Sony used blue for PS2 because they made a huge push for blue to be the official color of their branding (the blue LED in particular was state-of-the-art actually)
The DVDs couldn't use dyed bottoms for some reason
Logan Jackson
The weight of the cdrom blue backs were lighter than the dvdroms. Older PS2 models would have trouble reading blue backs once the disc drive got worn out. An easy fix was to surround the center hole with scotch tape. I still have a few games with the scotch tape on it.
Jose Campbell
Congrats on accomplishing that almost 2 decades after the products release.
Ayden Allen
Huh, well that's something I never knew, explains a fair bit in retrospect.

Blue light has a higher frequency meaning data can be read quicker, this is also the reason red discs don't exist.

I remember having to tape a few discs once my PS2 started playing up. I had no idea the reason behind it, I just read it as a possible solution online.

The tape was to weight down the disc so they would stay aligned with the optical laser once it spun.

I wish I knew this as a kid. My older games just stopped working for some reason. I thought it was because my Rumble Racing CD got scratched and bought another one, which failed soon after because I played that game to death.

Hey that's a Mojo disc
Thought I was the only one who played that

I know the song, but misheard song lyrics are obscure as fuck. I never personally heard them this way, it's obviously jibberish and I never saw this video.

They never stopped playing it when I was in high school, but you have to know this specific video to get the joke. Actually the joke when I was in school was that the lyrics said "I'm in need of a guy" even though it's obviously gibberish
Dominic Sanders
ok I admit, I smirked a bit

I've literally never met a person above the age of 18 who has not heard this song
David Richardson
I've heard the song and those are not the real lyrics
Haven't heard this misinterpretation of it. Haven't actually heard the song itself for probably a decade or longer
Jacob Cox
To break your ps2.

This is a pretty good quality bait. It's well made. But at the same time it's not really that funny and a bit too convoluted.
This is very poor quality, but it's funnier.
Robert Williams
the blue ones never worked on my ps2
