AVGN 1-100 is peak internet entertainment. Just a guy and his friends somehow writing extremely memorable scripts and good skits to the point where nearly every content creator that came out after copied his style/were heavily influenced by him. I regularly rewatch the older episodes over and over because they're so tightly made.

The whole system comes from when games were coin operated.
Run out of lives? That's another quarter to continue. Want to make more money as a game publisher? Make your game a real coin eater. Hell, the harder you make it, the more kids will want to sink money into it just to prove they can overcome the challenge.

the game's design is literally wrong though. The game is all about managing health and sanity. Dangerous things deplete health, annoying things deplete sanity. Apparently the programmers had no idea what they were doing because the singing lady actually physically lacerates Henry with her music when obviously that should be part of the sanity mechanic instead.

it's a bad game for sure, but AVGN plays it up to such an extreme
