Dragon Age Origins

Being a mage is so fun that it honestly makes warrior and rogue look bad

just cuz your irl wizard life sucks doesnt mean a virtual one cant be fun

What do you guys think makes magic bad in most games? Too weak? Not enough variety?

Mages are usually terrible against melee opponents, which most enemies tend to be.

Mages of Mystralia

Pic not related.

Magic is fantastic in vast majority of games and only brought down by awful imagination of developers.

Devs can't make up their mind what kind of magic they want for their games. If you want powerful, classic wizards then their spells need to take time to cast, need to be powerful, need to cover the battlefield and need to exhaust the caster. If you want battlemages who use it in skirmish scenarios then they need to quick magic shields to block melee attacks and repulsive magic to throw warriors around the place.
Because devs can't decide, they try to mix both and make shitty versions of both.

Boring, generic shit
Not enough versatility or improv uses
Not enough variety in magic items or ways to cast
Magic either staying pretty useless or falling off hard

Also too little or no utility spells. Fuck the generic combat shit, I like utility.
