People act like it's weird for Yosuke, Chie, and Yukiko to be friendly and welcoming to a newcomer when that's exactly what they did for the protagonist. The little mermaid poem is genuinely sad with the context given by the hollow forest.

They like the cute/____ thing. You combine cute with something uncute and get something cute+. This is cringecute.
She starts out not being tsundere and you accept her being naturally abrasive, then she comes to like you so it comes off as more genuine. Lots of tsunderes fall in love too quickly and wind up feeling like a caricature.

Persona 4 did a lot of things I didn't like. Creating interest between characters, only for Yu and his magic curse to brainwash them into thinking it's acceptable to be NTR'd.

I never did and I've never really empathised with those who do.

The absolute worst part of Persona 4's writing is when you clear Adachi's arc and are then on the Izanami train to the ending. You can argue it's necessary for the theme of the game and to fill in the explanation of how the fuck everything started off but personally I find 4's "Reach out for the truth" shit cliché and have never really felt that it NEEDED greater resolution or expansion, simply leaving it at pursuing the truth beyond reasonable limits to find the true culprit and how people often overlook an inconvenient truth for a convenient lie would be enough - and I don't think there really needed to be an explanation of Personas or the TV realm or how Yu and Adachi got their powers since most of it can be simply explained with knowledge of prior entries in the franchise.

Marie, thus, really doesn't negatively impact anything of value. People can bitch about her being tacked onto the Izanami storyline but it was already poop to begin with so I cannot bring myself to care if she feels like an obviously forced-in element applied retroactively. The only mandatory scene where she bugged me was in the intro since it breaks the flow of it and the fact she's optional after simply doesn't mesh well with it.

Her poem gimmick is pretty boring but innoffensive, she doesn't really bring anything to the group dynamic the few times the team interact with her, and her dungeon is actually decent just for being kind of a fun series of challenges. I can't really bring myself to dislike her, she's just sort of plain and doesn't do enough bad shit to deserve it. I'm mostly indifferent to her.
