addendum: The music serves a purpose to reinforce the settings aesthetic of retrofuturism that was prevalent during the 50's and 60's, since that sort of optimism and bravado is what the setting was built on. Culturally, the world didn't advance past the jingoism of the 50's or the cold war. Hence the old timey music.
